  • Perhaps, perhaps...

And I don't even have an UO right now, so why am I even asking?

  • I don't but we can make this it.  Here are mine:

    1.  I think chewing gum is disgusting.  I haven't eaten it in probably 10 years.  I think it's nasty and when I'm near someone who's chewing it, it grosses me out.

    2.  There's a new style of shirt that I keep seeing people wearing that I think is so unflattering and I don't get what people like about it.  I see them everywhere, but strangely I can't find them anywhere online.  They are usually baggy and look like they are tie-dyed, except that they have vertical white streaks throughout the shirt.  Maybe someone else knows what I'm talking about.  I don't know why, I just don't like how they look on people.

ETA:  I finally found one, although this one is a little nicer than the ones I've been seeing, but you get the idea:

Oh yeah, what about it?  I have a new UO about my bible study group.  We let everyone bring their kids over to our house so we don't all have to hire babysitters and the kids are destroying our house.  So we asked one parent to step out each week to supervise, except the "supervising" parents are afraid to discipline other people's kids so they are as bad as ever.  It's so distracting that I dread it each week.  On the plus side, I feel much better about being a woman after our discussion.

Here's my side-eyeable contribution for the day:

I know it's the law, safer, yadda, yadda, yadda, but I really hate knowing that I will have to put a helmet on Spencer when he rides bikes. I had a flag on my bike when I was a kid and it always made me feel like the biggest dork on the planet. I was so embarrassed by it. If my parents had made me wear a helmet too, I probably would have packed my kiddie bags and hit the kiddie road.

Dude, a huge +1 from me.

    Hmmm, tough choice.

But what about headgear, tho?  If Spencer needs braces or something, will you let him go through life with crooked teeth or will you force him to wear headgear and possibly face teasing at the hands of his peers?

    Parenting is hard, yo.

I like the wedge part of the heel but wish the top was a sandal or something.

My UO - I feel bad for George Zimmerman's family - NOT for him, but for his family.  They presumably didn't do anything wrong but will have to suffer because of his stupidity for a long time.  I think that sucks.

I obviously feel way worse for Trayvon Martin's family, since they lost a child in a violent and senseless manner, but I still feel for Zimmerman's family.

    Hmmm.

I think we would take the headgear, but skip wearing it during sleepovers. Also, he wouldn't be going to any camps and such that year.

Some people worry about their kids catching the geigh, I would be far more concerned if my kid was a socially awkward dork. Obviously helmets and headgears are the leading cause of dorkdom, which is why they must be used with caution.

I would have no problem with the girls being dorks.

I was a dork, DH was a dork.  We're pretty normal adults.

I will not disagree with you any further because it makes me uncomfortable when we disagree.

    LAWL!

But yeah, I can see the other side of it--that, if you get them used to it from day 1, they probably won't have a problem with it. I imagine that's how seat belts were for many people who remember way back when they weren't required by the law.

I didn't know this was a law. I have never seen any of the kids in my neighborhood wearing helmets. I never bought one for DD and was peeved when they had a trike-a-thon at school that she had to have one.

This is the law in Ontario (and many other places). I've never thought twice about it. We always wore helmets growing up, and I still do. DD will too.

Sorry, twat, I know you didn't have a choice, but I'd be way more embarrassed to have a flag on my bike than a helmet.

Yes, and I normally don't like what they put together.

As for helmets, E and M will be wearing them on their bikes, and when we take them skiing.  Ski helmets + goggles + puffy outfits +skis on little kids = awesome.

  • Re: Helmets.

When I see a kid on a bike and the kid isn't wearing a bike helmet, I'm seriously tempted to yell at them to put on their helmet.

But I'm afraid I'd startle them and they'd fall off the bike.
