Re: GTKY: Stolen idea from July 14 .....STM+

  • Baby #1 39w+1d water broke at 4:30am. Arrived at hospital having contractions every 2-3 minutes that I wasn't feeling and 5.5cm dialated. Walked until 11:30 but after only dialating 1 more cm doctor wanted to finish breaking my water (it was a high, incomplete break) and that really got things going but also probably got baby stuck. It took from 11:30am to 6:30pm to go from 7 to 10cm. Then I pushed for 4 hours. Baby had never finished spinning and was facing my inner thigh. Wouldn't budge past +1. Then my cervix swelled shut and I had a c-section. DS was born at 10:53pm.

Baby #2 I was hoping for a VBAC. Lots of signs of labor and progress starting at about 36 weeks. Never went into labor despite trying all the tricks and ended up with a repeat c-section at 40w+6d.

  • Hey LB @MollySm....we are so much alike.  I had a high slow leak at 36w6d with DD.   When I went to get checked, they told me that I had only peed myself...but I knew I didn't.  They sent me home.  I leaked more fluid when I got home and was still convinced it wasn't pee but decided to relax, shower and get some sleep.  Remembering my drs advice, I put a fresh thick pad on before bed and I had another gush around 11 pm.  I threw the pad in a ziploc bag to keep it from drying out on my 45 min drive, called DH to tell him I was on my way to the hospital (he works 10 mins from the hospital) and jumped in the car.  They checked me again and said that they couldn't find any signs of amniotic fluid.  I pulled out my pad and had them check that and sure enough it was positive.

They started pitocin around 1 am, I was checked at 5:30 and was only 1 cm with strong contractions for the last two hours.  I got my epidural and started pushing around 8:50.  DD was born 30 mins later.

Went in for my weekly OB appt at 40weeks 2 days, had my NST and was having contractions during it but nothing too crazy. When my OB checked me I was 3cm with a bulging bag so he swept my membranes and told me he would see me later. My contractions picked up but still nothing consistent or painful so my husband and I just walked and walked. The next morning I knew I was in labor, wasn't hungry, had diarrhea (ick) and contractions were more painful but it was my husband's birthday so I played it down a little. We walked through Target for over an hour (too hot to walk outside in Florida in August) and I took a long nap. My very best friend, who was going to be in the room with us during delivery, was coming into town that night so I waited up for her. An hour after she arrived my water broke as I was climbing into bed. I arrived at the hospital and was 7cm, got my epidural and my daughter arrived a few hours later after 25 minutes of pushing.

  • the morning before my due date I woke up and got ready for work. My mom texted me and asked how I felt, I told her fine and like I would not be having a baby anytime soon. Went to work, talked to my principal and told her I expected to at least work through the end of the week (it was Tuesday) about 10 minutes later labor started with contractions 5 minutes apart! Baby was born 14 hours later at 10:01pm
  • DD was born at 42 weeks.

At 33 weeks I went into preterm labor but they were able to stop it. I was 3 cm dilated and put on bed rest.

At 36 weeks I was 6 cm dilated. I was taken off bed rest and was told I'd probably walk the baby out on my way out of the hospital. Every week after that I got the "you're still here!" comments from the Dr. and nurses.

At 39 weeks I had my membranes stripped. It did nothing.

At 41 weeks I went in for an NST and had my membranes stripped again. DD was looking good so they told me that I could go to 42 weeks before they'd induce but that they believed I'd be back by the end of the day with a baby in my arms.

At 42 weeks, the night before my scheduled induction, my mom and I decided to go see the new Twilight movie. As soon as the movie started (7:30) I felt my first contraction. By the time the movie was over my contractions were 5 minutes apart. I arrived at the hospital around 11pm. The nurses were like "we'll keep you over night since you're scheduled to be induced at 5am anyways but because you're a first time mom don't expect anything to happen before then." An hour later and I was ready to push. At 2:02am DD was born.

  • I was induced at 38 weeks due to high BP. I went in for cervadil and the next morning was started on pitocin. The doctor broke my water around 8:30am and contractions immediately became painful so I got an epidural about 45 minutes later. I didn't start pushing until 9:15pm and Nola was born at 11:16pm. It was a loooong day and I'm really hoping to go into labor on my own this time!

  • Went into labor 12 days early with my first and went into labor 12 days early with my second. She was born 11 days early. Fingers crossed that happens again.
  • I was induced at 41 weeks. They gave me cervidil and pitocin. I labored for 2 days (with a break overnight to rest). They gave me an epidural on day two and broke my water. I only progressed to 1cm dilated so I had a csection. I think recovery was much harder because I had two days of (pitocin induced) contractions before a csection. I'm hoping since this one is scheduled recovery will be easier. (Fingers crossed!!)

  • DD- I was 39w2d when I woke up around 4:30 a.m. with what felt like period cramps.  I was insistent on not wanting to get sent home for false labor, so I did not get my hopes up.  However, as the morning went on and I tried different positions, the shower, walking, etc., I became convinced this was the real deal.  DH came home from work around noon and we went to the hospital.  They checked me and had a hard time picking up contractions and I was about 4cm dilated (they must have had the monitor on wrong because I definitely felt them), so they sent me out to walk for 2 hours.  DH, my pregnant friend (due the next week) and I walked the hospital campus for two hours, and by the end my contractions were 2 minutes apart.  I got checked again at the 2 hour point and was 6 cm.  They sent me up to my room at about 5 p.m, I was 10 cm and started pushing at 7 p.m., and DD was born 25 minutes later.  I had no medication at all.

DS: I was 38w5d.  The day before, I had gone to the chiropractor to see if getting adjusted would turn him from being posterior (it ultimately did), and that night I was experiencing a lot of what I thought were braxton hicks.  I was not in pain, but I kept getting this tightening sensation that took my breath away.  We were out with friends and they thought I was in labor from how I was breathing, but I was not feeling pain so I said it was just BH.  I woke up the next morning, about 4 a.m., with more BH, but they seemed to have a peak and a pattern.  I laid there timing them for about 2 hours, and realized that they were coming every 4 minutes (pretty much right off the bat), and I supposed I should probably call even though they weren't painful.  The midwife had me come right in.  However, it was the ONLY snowstorm we had in all of 2012, so DH had to shovel off the cars, and it took longer to get to the birth center where I was stopping to get checked.  I got to the birthing center at 7a.m. and was 6 cm, feeling more like I was in labor this time.  They said we could stay there, or attempt to drive the extra 20+ mins to the hospital.  We decided to go to the hospital (it took an hour), and got there at 8:30.  I got into a labor tub about 9:15, 7cm at that point, and about 30 mins later was crying that I was ready to push.  DS was born 5 minutes, at 9:50 a.m later in the tub.  It was amazing!

  • One year tomorrow my water broke at 38 weeks 6 days @ 9:30pm. Took my time to get to the hospital and was in labor for over 25 hours. At 11:42 pm on April 18th, I was given my c-section, as she had to interest of coming out on her own and had our little girl. I had her at exact 39 weeks on my own.

    * I was working that day as well. My co-worker asked if I would walk with them to go to a Soup kitchen to help out with my students. Didnt think that would have done it but it did. I guess I will never see past 39 weeks of pregnancy and I am OK with that :)

Dd was born at 32 weeks. Started having contractions around 2am. I would sleep in between contractions and didn't realize what was going on. Got up at about 6 am and was walking around, leaning on the wall, getting on all fours, trying everything to get comfortable. About 7 am I finally figured out what was going on (durh!). Got to the hospital at 8amish and was already 6 cm. they gave me drugs to stop the labor. My ex( the dad)'s best friend's mom Bev (that's who he lived with) stopped by to bring me my camera and some belongings. Since it seemed my labor had stopped sent dad out to get some breakfast and Bev stayed with me. Soon as he left the room labor started back up. Bev coached me (I barely knew her!) and dad showed up just before dd came out. Bev called my parents on her cell right when dd came out so they were able to hear her cry, which was awesome. Dd ended up staying in the NICU for almost 2 months. Oh and did I mention I was downstate for a friends wedding, 4 hrs away from the hospital I was supposed to have her at! I ended up staying with Bev too for the 2 months my dd was in the NICU. Really hoping this birth has less surprises, and I am not traveling at all.

eeek! My sisters wedding is 8 hours away when I'm 37 weeks... I think you just helped me decide on whether to go (no!)

I would highly recommend that you don't go, but ultimately that is up to you. Having a baby at a strange hospital is no fun. I had my birth plan with me and they were like "NOPE. You are not a regular patient here, so deal."  Of course the nurse said it much nicer, but that was the gist of it. They messed up my chart and had me marked down as being 40 something with two prior deliveries. I had a bunch of residents in the room, and when I tried to get them to leave I was told I don't have a choice.  I think the lady that delivered my baby was a residence or brand new because she looked terrified. My focus point was the tv which had Turner and Hooch playing. The whole experience was scary. I felt like a science experiment.  The only thing that was a positive was that the dad was able to see his daughter's birth. (I lived in that area with him, we separated shortly after I found out I was pregnant, and came back for friend's wedding and to try to work some things out with him.)

  • I had a scheduled c/s at 39w0d and even though they said I was having mild contractions I never felt them. Apparently the baby was still pretty high up and no sign of coming down, so I likely would have gone past term.

  • i just love reading these beautiful storys!!! i just have to ask tho b/c i didnt know it was possible...jules you said your hubby and you made love while you were in labor??? how does that work? dont things hurt?
  • DD - 38 weeks and I woke up feeling a little off, did some walking with my mom and sister and contractions picked up. We went to the hospital and I was checked and at a 4 and 80% effaced. Doctor said she could break my water to get things really going so they did. Contractions really picked up after that. I got my epidural at 5 cm. Things progressed super fast and less then 4 hours from being admitted I was ready to push. Her shoulders got stuck and they were talking about maybe breaking her shoulder to get her out. I had a nurse on the bed with me pushing on my stomach and the doctor pulling. After 35 minutes of pushing they finally got her out. She weighed 8 pounds 6 ounces and was beautiful.

DS- 3 days after Thanksgiving I ate some leftovers and got a terrible stomach ache. I thought that my husband had left out the Turkey and I was sick. I was talking to my mom on the phone and she asked if I was sure I wasn't in labor. I then realized the stomach cramps were coming at regular intervals and packed up DD and headed to the hospital. I got there and was 6cm and asked for my epidural. They started an IV since I was GB positive. Less then 90 minutes later DS came into the world at 37 weeks 4 days.

I am hoping this little one wants to join us around 38 weeks as well.
  • i was 1 week late. I was measuring behind, had a growth u/s with low fluid. My dr did not feel comfortable letting me go past 41 wks.

I was admitted to be induced. While waiting for a room to open up in L&D I went into labor on my own with contractions 2 min apart. This was around 345pm. DD was born at 7pm.

  • OHHHH so THATS how you ladys do it! let me try this clever little trick @joules235. Did it work?!

and ummm interesting about how that works with labor and making love! you ladys are so smart i feel like i learn so much posting here!! but i dont know if i could really do it it seems kinda weird to me but whatever works for you right?!?
  • I was due 3/12 and we closed on our house on 3/13 (I worked for the lender and called my funding manager in tears asking for a same day funding since I knew my signed docs had been delivered). I spent all day on the 14th packing up our house and moving to the new house. That night at 5 o'clock I was leaving the new house to go to the old to get another load and felt a trickle. Nobody believed me that it was my water breaking so I sucked it up and went out to dinner with my parents while DH and his friend kept moving us. I got home from dinner, called the hospital and they told us to come in. This is when I packed my bag and DH installed the car seat :) We went to the hospital and it tested negative for amniotic fluid, until the nurse pushed her head up and I immediately soaked the bed. Contractions weren't starting so they started Pitocin at about 11pm. She was born at 9:15pm on the 15th, 28 hours from my water breaking to birth. They had to vacuum her out because she was kind of sideways and not completely face down. I laid there with her on my chest forever before the doctor asked DH if he was going to tell me what we had. I wasn't expecting a girl, but there she was! All 8lbs 15oz of her! I had a fourth degree tear (he was seriously down there sewing me up for an hour) but I had the easiest recovery ever. I was climbing on chairs three days later putting stuff away in the new house.

@RaeJ004‌ -- I just cracked up reading this part of your post: "We went to the hospital and it tested negative for amniotic fluid, until the nurse pushed her head up and I immediately soaked the bed." That's either a typo or a seriously committed nurse!
Oh I meant pushed the baby's head up!  It was RIGHT THERE.  She even told me I could glove up and touch it if I wanted.  I politely declined...

  • My water broke 9 days early with DD.....in the middle of a very busy restaurant.  For those of you who haven't had the lovely experience of feeling your water break, it's true when they say "you'll know".

I had zero contractions and zero signs that it was coming.  12 hours later I hadn't had a single contraction so they induced with Pitocin.  DD was born 7 hours after Pitocin started.
