How common is it to have a short luteal phase while BF'ing?  Do I need to stop entirely for this shit to go back to normal?

(Not a bump newb - just figured this was a good place to post this question).

Actually tagging @whocanitbenow since I pretty much trust your judgment on this shit.

  • Not super new, but just started wondfo's. Why do the pregnsncy tests from wondfo say to test the first day after your missed period? Aren't they just as sensitive, I see people here do it all the time? Should I not pee on them 12 dpo. I really like to pee on things, but don't want to waste

    ----------------------------------------------------------------
Stuck in the box. A lot of tests recommend later than a positive could show up. You can pee on them at 12 dpo. A lot of women here start at 10dpo.

@Notanae, I haven't been there yet, but from the charts I've looked at, women have fairly regular luteal phases while BFing. I think 3 short luteal phases is still something to talk to a doctor about.

  • When is it acceptable to join Waiting to O? I'm TTA until the end of May, but wondered if I could join the fun over there in a few weeks when I wait for my first post BC cycle.
That should be totally fine. Some people who are TTA post in the threads.

  • Woo hoo!
So I just started temping and I'm having a hard time dealing with morning brain. This morning I grabbed the thermometer, took my temperature, read it, and then morning brain decided that I must have done it wrong (I may have convinced myself that the I stuck the thermometer too far into my mouth and that was bad - it makes no sense now but there you go). So I decided to try again and got a temp that was .2 degrees (C) lower than the first try - but more consistent with my temperatures this week (no O signs). So here are my stupid questions!
    1. Is this possible? Part of me thinks I may have dreamed this. Shouldn't additional time after waking up increase my temperature? or did the act of opening my mouth twice lower the temperature in my mouth?
    2. I should use the first temperature, right?

Now to turn this into a hopefully less stupid question - what are some techniques you use for taking your temperature consistently every morning?

Wondfo HPTs have gone to shit. They are pretty sensitive, so pee on them all you want. But just know that in the last couple years they have become very prone to false positives, bad batches, and other random issues that I can't think of.
I like the 88 cent Walmart brand. Granted I have never gotten a BFP. But I have never gotten a false positive either...

I bought 5 of the Walmart tests and 3 were faulty, I've seen others post similar things. So I guess moral of the story is you get what you pay for, and keep these things in mind if you test with cheapies. I think some people here have suggestions for less common HPTs that have worked well. I thought the dollar store ones were fine, but I've stopped testing early so I don't really have other suggestions.

    yeah, use the first temperature.
I keep my thermometer on my phone, and set a phone alarm so I have to grab my thermometer to turn off the alarm and I always put it in the same spot under my tongue.

  • When counting the length of time TTC (in regards to hitting the 12 month mark and taking next steps), should I count from when we started trying, or start over after a loss?

For example, I am on cycle 8 (month 10), but only 5 cycles post loss. I know I'm still several months away from a year no matter how you count it, but I'm just curious about how to do this correctly.

    Sigh.  Fuck.

I haven't been charting because I've been BF'ing and not TTC - I had what I thought was EWCM 9 days prior to when I had light bleeding - but 2 days before the light bleeding started I was hospitalized with stomach flu - this was all back in the first half of Feb.

When AF didn't show up in March (and no EWCM either) I assumed Feb was break through bleeding.

On 4/4 I had EWCM with a +OPK on 4/7 (morning - first urine which I know isn't super accurate), and some twinges/cramping on 4/7 as well.  OPK's on 4/5 and 4/6 were both 'negative' with light lines so high but not peak fert (also confirmed by Clearblue OPK).  We had sex on 4/5.  Obviously since we weren't TTC I am not charting/temping all that stuff.  But we were still in the window.  I had some very uncharacteristic nausea/general shittiness yesterday...and this morning had spotting which has turned into, in my opinion, a light period.  Making my LP about 7 days.

When I got pregnant with my son, it was literally the first cycle we tried.  My cycles were regular, and my LP was actually a bit over 14 days if I had to guess based on timing of things (I wasn't temping/charting back then - I didn't learn about how this all worked really until AFTER I was pregnant).

So there's the long drawn out story.  I guess if I get a third cycle with a short LP it's doctor time.  I'm planning on weaning end of May anyways.

    PS - go bears.  cheesehead.

You mean when you have already stopped BC? You could ovulate the first cycle. If you mean while you are still on BC, there really isn't a point, but nobody would be upset.

I think she means the WTO threads. I've seen some who post while TTA, so jump in whenever you want!

Eta I reread your answer, I think we were talking about the same thing

  • Can I buy a vowel with "maybe this is the .0000000001% of cases where implantation bleeding looks like a light period?"  or "maybe this is implantation bleeding and I think it just looks heavier than it actually is?"

Or maybe I just need to buy a basal temp thermometer over at amazon and DL fert friend.  Meh.

    Thanks guys.
  • Yeah the only thing I saw on the newb blog on IB was a "youre a fucking moron" flowchart.

    Not uber helpful.
  • There are these cheapies on Amazon called surepredict. They work really well. Almost TOO well because they are positive at 10 mL when most early tests are like 25 mL.
As in I have single digits of Hcg in my urine for my loss last week and I can still get a line on them this morning.
    Super sensitive.

These are the ones I was thinking of! I couldn't remember the name. Thanks :)

The information in that chart is just saying that you should never assume spotting or bleeding is implantation bleeding. You will never be able to know, and we will never tell you that it is without a positive test afterwards.

Remember that IB is a hindsight thing. There's a great section in the newbie blog about it. Yep, charting helps keep me grounded and keeps away all of the "what-ifs."
Yup. Definitely agree. I had IB with my daughter and it was 100% hindsight. At the time, I thought it was my period coming except, obviously, it never did.
  • I don't know if this is a newbie post, but how common is it to have ovary pain after ovulation. According to FF, I ovulated on Saturday (I think it may be drunk) but I'm still having ovary pains this morning. I'm trying to remember but I think it happened last month after ovulation as well. Is this something to worry about? Is it a sign that something is wrong and I'm not ovulating properly?

Also, second question - I never got a postive opk last month. How common is that? I was using wondfo.
    image
  • Thanks @RinnyBee‌. The random ovary pains are kindof scaring me, it's good to hear someone else say they are normal. When I saw the dr for the 60+ cycle, she was worried about cysts and did an ultrasound but found nothing, so I need to remind myself that it's normal.

I get ovulation pain every single cycle and did so when ttc the first time as well. It isn't uncommon to feel cramping pre, during or post ov as well as it isn't uncommon to not get ov pain at all. Neither is a sign of something "wrong". You can also feel it prominently some cycles and not at all on others. It is very consistent for me although it hasn't helped me conceive any faster!

Surepredict are cheap like wondfo but I've had a lot of luck with them and positives at 8 and 9 dpo before a FRER.  You can get them on amazon.  They do have dye runs too so I hold them in a second longer than it says and it helps the problem. I've had 2 BFN and 2 BFP cycles using them.
Thank you. Good tip re: the dye run, too!

Thanks @PeanutRN for starting this thread :)

My dumb question is regarding opk's. This will be my first month using them and I'm a little confused as to when to start using them. I think FF says my O date has been anywhere from CD16 to 27, so should I start on CD16?

    TIA!

Is it common to spot after sex during your fertile window? Like just one wipe and that's it.
& if so have others experienced this as well?

I would start using them the first day after your period to ensure that you don't miss your FW. There is always a chance you will ovulate earlier than usual. When it gets around CD 13-14, or when they start getting darker, I'd start using them twice a day. Hope this helps.
    Thanks! That does help :)

Does how high your temp go matter? I have found I generally have a higher temp before I O then most people and I have noticed it never really spikes super high after that, I have only been charting two months and both times have had enough of a shift to confirm O. However, my coverline is generally around 98.0 and my highest temp both cycles wasn't too much higher than that. I notice that a lot of woman have a steady incline in their temps from their coverline, should I be concerned? Or is it fine as long as I can see enough of an increase to get CHs? I hope that makes sense! I linked my chart : <a href="https://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/332367">

I had spotting this month around O. I have no idea if it was from sex or just random spotting. Either way, NBD.
