Pregnant after IF

IL Side-eye

Just a little vent... My ILs are in town for the week and graciously took me shopping tonight for maternity clothes. We sat down once we got home and I grabbed a couple of catalogs to flip through before I threw them away. As I'm looking through LL Bean, my MIL looks at me and says, "sweetie, none of that is going to fit you..." My head almost did an exorcist 360, but I managed to spit out a rather reserved "that doesn't mean I can't look." I'm just happy she said it in the house and not at the mall, especially since I almost walked in to a Lilly store to fawn over the new patterns. She may have not made it home if she dropped that comment in public. I love her, really I do, but RAWR. Anyone else want to vent?

Re: IL Side-eye

  • oh girl, I hear you. My IL are coming for Easter weekend. MH, who is usually very thoughtful, failed to make sure he is not on call this weekend while they are here.

Since he will most likely not be home on time for Good Friday, I suggested to MIL that they should arrive at ~5 PM to we can go out to dinner and make it to 6:30 service at Church.
Her reply? "OK, we will leave around 9 AM"

It only takes 4 hours to drive here.
I politely suggested that was too early, because I wouldn't be home from work until 3:30 at the absolute earliest.

She suggested I should take off work so that I could get home earlier to meet them. Since I teach at a University, I not-so-politely informed her that substitute teachers were not available.

Then she got on the phone with DH and asked him if he was glad he worked with our GC so that he would be able to watch another woman grow bigger with our baby.
That one put me in tears.

I know I am overly sensitive, but how about a little compassion for what we have had to give up through this horrible process of IF/loss?

We may need another IL thread come Monday! lol

  • My MIL is also driving me cuckoo lately. She always calls the baby "her grand baby". Can you just refer to it as the baby? It's like they want another kid! She also keeps buying us stuff for her grand baby but she can't afford it, purchases things that will be used in like 2 years, and we don't have room...our house is seriously so small. The best though...is I'm having a bit of a complex with the weight gain and being on modified bed rest doesn't help when I can't even to walk...well she seriously weighs 100-105 lbs. and she had the gull to tell me when I was telling her I was habit a tough day with the weight one day that her sister just told her she looks like she put on a few lbs. Shut the F.&@$ up! End rant:)

  • @lincoln79‌ I'm pretty sure your MIL needs a swift kick in the a$$.

@amwenz‌ I hear your concerns about the weight gain. I wish people could figure out how to just listen and keep their comments to themselves. Hugs to you both!

I feel your frustration...I'm getting the same thing from my mom! We went shopping the other day and almost everything I looked at that was fitted I got some comment like "Oh don't bother, it won't fit you soon"  what?!

She then went on to tell me that everything I buy from now on should have an empire waist because I'm going to get sooo big...while I know some things will have to I finally told her that there is no rule saying I have to wear a tent while pregnant!

I know she's trying to be funny in some way but it's getting a little old at this point...

Here's to other people keeping there comments to themselves! Cheer!  haha :)

  • It's funny how people seem to think that just because you are pregnant, you aren't going to be offended with weight gain / size comments.

One of our admins was in my office yesterday joking with my office mate about taking bets on how big I was going to get. She added, though, that they probably won't know since there's no way I'm going to be able to work when I'm that big. It was like, "Really?" She went on to say how no one could tell when she was pregnant (which doesn't surprise me because she's like 6 feet tall).
