Trouble TTC

Question on cysts

So I had my IUI Sunday...had about 7 follices although only 4 were mature - 2 were very mature (over 25mm) on my left side.  I had bad O pains Sunday, which was usual...but last night started getting pain again on my left side.  Today it has been really bad...the pain has made me light headed at times and I can't walk while standing straight.  Would that at all be a symptom of a cyst?  How soon after O are you usually able to start feeling a cyst (if you even do feel it)?

I've never had one before, so I'm not sure what is going on.  For all I know it could be crazy bad gas...but I worry a bit since the pain is distinctly around the area of my left ovary.  At what point do you call the RE to do a quick monitoring and be sure it's not a cyst?  Or is it way to early for it to be a cyst and my wussy ovaries are just having a hard time recovering?

Me 33, DH 37 -- TTC since Jan'12 -- Low AMH (0.78) & endo, SA w/ low motility
IUI's 1-3 = BFN, IVF converted to IUI 4/13 = BFN

Re: Question on cysts

  • I just got benched today for cysts...I lost count with how many I have, I think it was 5 or 6, some quite large...during most of the two week wait my ovaries just felt huge and were pushing up against my bladder 24/7, but the end of the TWW it felt completely normal...I was really shocked today to see what was going on in there since I didn't really feel anything. After the u/s I feel like they got knocked around a bit and can feel them a bit more, but it doesn't really hurt. If I was feeling the pain you were describing I would definitely check with my RE about it. Hope everything is alright for you!

  • When I got the cyst last time I never felt them they just saw them on an us. I had 1 30 and 20. I've had cyst in the past too and never knew unless 1 ruptured then I knew.

I'm no expert on cyst but if the pain is so bad your having trouble walking I'd call and at least ask. In my experience there is nothing they can do for cyst besides bc but I've only ever had functional cyst.

I'm sorry I'm no help, I hope you feel better soon.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • Not sure if my experience with a cyst would be helpful to you, but one night I had what I thought was the worst Crohn's pain of my life (and it's been unbearable before). Not only did it keep me from sleeping, but I couldn't stop crouching, moaning/crying all night. Never guessed it was an ovarian cyst, in fact GI nurse had me take a laxative and wait it out all night! In the ER they did a CT scan and found that a cyst burst. It was so bad, by the end I couldn't move and felt like a blade was slicing over and over deep inside my bum somewhere!

My point is...over that month or so I had started having stronger pain and difficulty standing up straight again (as had happened before my Dx of Crohn's and starting steroids). So looking back I had some warning but didn't realize it. If I felt that again, I would definitely check for a cyst this time! Especially because at my USs later they said I was lucky it didn't twist and kill off a chunk of my ovary.

Good luck with whatever you choose, I hope the pain goes away and you get a BFP! If not, that you are cyst-free for your next cycle! And if it does turn out to be a cyst, I want to pass on something very encouraging that the US tech told me...she said she'd given birth twice and had a burst cyst, and the cyst was far more painful. No idea if that's true but it made me feel strong! :)

  • @BunnyBerry‌ having a cyst rupture feels just like active labor. The difference is contractions only come every few min and you get a break. When a cyst ruptures it's constant. I've passed out a couple times from cyst never from contractions. My Dr said I pass out when the pain just gets to bad. So yes it's worse.
    Fucking bump!!!!
  • When I had a ruptured cyst it was a few days after IUI. I had horrible cramps combined with like an overall stomachache that was really intense to where I couldn't do anything. I was doubled over in pain. I was also nauseous and later started vomiting from the pain. I would definitely give your RE a call! I waited to call until I felt like I either needed to go to the RE or the ER and got the okay to take the pain pills from my recent surgery.

    Me: 32  DH: 33  Married: March 2004

    July 2006: started TTC
2008: HSG (normal), couple rounds of clomid through gyno
2008 - 2010: dragging my feet out of fear and procrastination
October 2010: first consultation with RE, dx PCOS and fibroids (DH slightly low count/motility)
Oct. 2010 - Dec. 2012:  In DENIAL! avoided the issue because I was scared of surgery
January 2013: returned to RE, fibroids grew significantly
February 2013: second HSG, fibroids pushed on tubes which blocked them somewhat
March 2013: MRI to determine what type of surgery may be necessary

July 29, 2013: fibroids (5) removed via robotic laparascopy
August 2013 - Nov 2013 : benched due to recent surgery

    IUI #1, Dec. 24, 2013, BFN
    IUI #2, Jan. 25, 2014, BFN
    IUI #3, Feb. 25, 2014  BFN
IUI #4 canceled due to lack of response to letrozole
    IUI #4.1 April 28, 2014, BFN

May 16, 2014: wtf consult, start prepping for IVF in June and add injects for one last IUI in the meantime
IUI #5 started letrozole and bravelle but canceled after HSG led to new diagnosis

May 21, 2014: third HSG, tubes blocked, one at the beginning, one hydrosalpinx??
June 11, 2014: consult, approved to move on to IVF because the hydro is not completely blocked therefore allowing fluid to move through slowly rather than backwards
    IVF #1 August 8, 2014 - 3dt of 2 embryos, BFN
September 17, 2014 - 4th HSG, the right tube is very patent (open!!) dye went straight through this time. Weird!
    October 2, 2014 - started metformin treatment
    November 14, 2014 - blood work, brought A1C down from 5.8 to 5.5

November 26, 2014 - RE finally back from vaca and reviewed my chart, no more IVFs for rest of calendar year
December 1, 2014 - Right after Thanksgiving, I called a new clinic and got in right away! Plan for IVF
    December 17, 2014 - ER! 29 retrieved (!!), 16 mature, all 16 fertilized (ICSI)

    IVF #2 December 20, 2014 - 3dt of 3 embryos, BFN

We are done with treatment unsuccessfully. :(

  • I sent the nurse a message and will call if things get better.  I took gas pills in case it was that, but then I got worse and dizzy.  But now after a little soda, I feel better (finally feel good enough to have dinner!), so I'm not quite as nervous about it.  If I have pain tomorrow, I'll definitely go to the doctor!  I do get really bad gas pains about once a year, though...once I even went to the ER - that was embarrassing when we learned I just had to fart.

  • @pintobean39 Wow, that's something to look forward to then (not!). But it does make me feel much less afraid of labor knowing that I got through a ruptured cyst. Now if only we could have gotten a baby out of that painful night.... :)

  • I hope it isn't cysts, keep us posted.  I didn't start to feel mine until about 7DPIUI.  It hurt to use the bathroom, have sex, sit on a hard surface anything.  It sounds like we all have different experiences.  I think you made the right call by reaching out to the nurse.
    Ba hahahaha!

  • I felt pain like yours when I had about 15 follicules that needed to ovulate.  Worst pain!  I didn't go into the doctors because it lasted for a couple of days only and I just drank tons of gatorade to help with flushing everything out.  I would do what makes you feel comfortable.  If your pain is abnormally high for you, it is best to be safe rather than sorry.  Good luck!  I hope it is just you ovulating and that you get your BFP this month!
