Baby monitors.. I want to know what you've got!

We are on the hunt for a baby monitor, bc we are soon moving LO into his room. I've looked at reviews, and the ones that I've seen in my price range(under $200) all have mixed reviews.

Do you have video? Just audio? If you don't like your monitor which one would you buy?

Re: Baby monitors.. I want to know what you've got!

  • We have Graco audio only. I have tought in buying a video one before LO was here but I was afraid I'll be staring at the monitor every night. However, I now regret I didn't buy a video one cuz I'm up in his room at every strange/new peep I hear, to make sure he's fine. A video would have saved me some middle of the night trips.

  • We have the Motorola blink wifi camera. It's $250 at BRU & buy buy, but you can use the 20% off coupon ;-) it's pretty cool- it has night vision, you can log on from any wifi device (there's a password so not just anyone can get in) it pans, zooms, and you can actually talk to baby! It's great also for out of town family being able to check in!

  • We have the motorola audio and video monitor with a feature that lets you move the camera around to see the whole room. It is easy to install and we have never had any issues with it. You can also have more than one camera for it.

  • I have the Motorola video monitor-- whichever one is in the $175ish range. I love it! The picture and sound is very clear. I also like that the camera can move around to find him in the crib. You can zoom in or out. It works well when I take it outside to do yard work or sit on the porch. It also has a feature where you can talk to the baby, which will be nice when DS is older.

I like having the camera because ill naturally wake up in the middle of the night to check on him and I stare at the screen and look for breathing. Also when he used to sleep swaddled I could see if he had gotten himself unswaddled or if he has a limb stuck through the crib bars, etc.
  • We have the Summer video monitor (not the wifi one since that creeps us out). We love it!

  • We have the Babies R Us Sight Color Video Monitor.  Best Purchase we made!  It made the transition to his room a lot easier with the video monitor.  It is rated pretty well and is on sale for $139.99!

  • We have one of the aforementioned Motorolas. It's excellent but it can't go through the night without being charged. I guess I need to hook it up to the outlet behind our bed so this isn't a problem any more.

  • We just have an audio monitor only. I have the angel care so I didn't really feel the need to have the video to watch for breathing spots. We have it set up so that the angel care speaker is right next to the monitor so that there is no way it would go off without us hearing it. She sleeps through the night and once she is down, she normally stays asleep so I haven't really needed to watch for wake-ups on the monitor. If I didn't have the angel care, I would have gone with a video monitor.

  • I just have a simple audio only monitor and it works well for us. I can two way talk to LO on it but I haven't used that function and when he's napping I bring the monitor anywhere in he house/yard with me. I haven't felt the need to upgrade to a video monitor yet...who knows what the future holds. (I don't know the brand of my monitor but it was about $40 at Walmart)
  • We have a Foscam. It's not a "baby monitor" (it's actually a home security monitor) but it's wifi/web enabled, audio and video and we can access it via phone or computer. Plus they're more secure than most of the baby monitors on the market.

This, except we hate it. It's constantly saying "Out of Range," even if we are within 5 feet of it.
  • We have the Motorola video monitor. I like it, I just wish LO's room set up allowed us to have the camera closer to him.
  • We also have a Motorola video PP mentioned. I love having the video. It really does keep me from going in there after every noise!

Add me to the list of people creeped out by wifi. I have a Motorola video one that other people have mentioned. I love it. I don't know how people do it with audio only. We have a Snuza so I don't necessarily look for a breathing spot, I just need to look at him.
If you're smart with your home wifi network (ie, it's password protected and not publicly visible) there's nothing to be creeped out by.  Foscams are actually more secure than most models of baby monitors because their encryption is fundamentally better unless you're a dummy and leave the default password or don't have your wifi password protected. :)

We had a summer infant one with DD1 that crapped out. So we bought a Levana one with two cameras, one for each room. It's a video monitor and also has a speaker to talk through each of the cameras in both rooms. It's nice when DD1 is being a poop and not napping to tell her to lay down over the monitor. DD2 is still in our room so we haven't used it with her yet.

We have this one too. And I hate it with a passion. The monitor only works in our room (which is right beside LOs room) if I want to take it to the kitchen or outside, it claims it's out of range and won't work. (And my house isn't huge, it's only 1200 sq ft). I've tried to pair and unpair and then pair again and no luck. I got fed up on the wknd and called the company and they are sending me a new one. I hope this one works better because I like that I can see what's going on in there.

Also I live in Canada and it didn't come with a battery and you cannot buy them here, only in the States and BRU will not ship to me. And is it really worth it for me to drive all the way there? So I'm getting an audio one for when I'm sitting poolside during nap time for the summer.

    Sorry this was wayyyy long.
