I don't think we have one of these!! Did a search and couldn't find one. With most of our LO's approaching 6 months, how are things going BLW mamas?
When did you start BLW?
What was LO's first food?
Any choking/gagging?
What will you try next?
Any reservations or success stories to share so far?
Re: BLW Check In
What was LO's first food? A strawberry. She loved it, but mostly just mushed it around.
Any choking/gagging? Not yet. She tried a tomato slice the other day and actually broke a piece off! We were in a restaurant and I just knew she was going to start gagging and make me look like an idiot, but she just moved Iit around and then spat it out.
What will you try next? We were going to try sweet potatoes today, but I chickened out because it was mushy enough. I was too hungry to wait lol
Any reservations or success stories to share so far? Same as pp, worried about choking!

Francesca Pearl is here! Josephine Hope is almost 3!
What was LO's first food? banana
Any choking/gagging? She only gagged once
What will you try next? We did pickles yesterday. She loved it, but she got off a pretty big chunk. I didn't wait to see if she would work it out or not. I took it out. I will probably try asparagus or green beans.
We started giving him tastes around 4.5/5 months.
What was LO's first food?
Sweet potato. Still his favorite.
Any choking/gagging?
He gagged a little bit at first but hardly ever now. He is really good at chewing.
What will you try next?
We try lots of everything.
Any reservations or success stories to share so far?
We are totally winging the food thing. He hasn't rejected anything except avocado. I'm amazed at how good he is at grabbing and chewing.
What was LO's first food? Rice crackers (mum mums)
Any choking/gagging? She's gagged maybe 3 or 4 times and has had a ton of different foods so she's doing pretty good.
What will you try next? I really want to get peanut butter out of the way, so I can give her peanut suave and stuff, but I'll probably wait a few more months. I did put it on her skin and nothing happened so that's good. She's had most of our common foods so I don't even know what's going to be next.
Any reservations or success stories to share so far? I gave her some apple slices she did an awesome job taking bites from. I didn't think she'd be able to eat it, just chew on it.
A week before he turned 6 mnths
What was LO's first food?
Banana, avocado, bread, string cheese
Any choking/gagging?
A little here n there. But he moves the food around pretty well.
What will you try next?
We have tried so much already...yellow peppers, mango, chicken, noodles n pasta, spaghetti, zucchini, squash, cucumber, asparugus,steak...
Any reservations or success stories to share so far? Im starting to relax more and realize he can move the food back out of his mouth very well. He gets so excited in his chair at night.
he also loves to try and drink water out ofa glass! Very carefully of course.
We started at 5.5 and we are a month in. Her favorite is hummus on toast stick, but she has been agreeable to everything we have tried. Sweet potato, carrots, pear, banana, squash, apple, cucumber and avocado.
There has been a little gagging and one epic puke, but so far really fun!
When did you start BLW? Around 6 months not including the pickle my mom let him suck on at 4.5 mths.
What was LO's first food? Steamed brocolli with cheese I think.
Any choking/gagging? Just gagged once or twice.
What will you try next? I want to try apples.
Any reservations or success stories to share so far? He's really good at gumming peices off & it sometimes makes me nervous but he loves it & does really well!
When did you start BLW? Around 6 1/2 months. We started purees at 6 months, but he showed interest so I thought, heck, why not?
What was LO's first food? He chewed on a bit of my apple and loved it, so we started doing more. Pears (ripe), banana, mum mum crackers, steamed broccoli, and he tried a sweet potato fry at Applebees but was not impressed lol.
Any choking/gagging? Some gagging - he didn't like the texture of stuff on his tongue at first, and would gag all the time, but now it's nbd.
What will you try next? Honestly, we just keep winging it - stuff we're eating that he shows interest in.
Any reservations or success stories to share so far? I think we're not technically doing BLW because he refuses to pick up the food himself and feed himself, but screams until we feed the chunk of food to him. It's comical, because he'll open his mouth and flap his arms and scream until we give him the food - he's our little bird lol. He did pick up the mum mum cracker though, once I placed it in his hand.
Within the last few weeks she has showed WAY more interest in food. Like, she suddenly tried to grab it when we went to dinner, so I figured we better get on this whole feeding thing. Haha
So far, she has had avocado, carrots, and broccoli. She only likes the first two. She is also getting some organic apple sauce with cereal in the morning at day care. I have sweet potatoes and a pear at home to try next. Oh, and we gave her a green bean at a restaurant, but it was too stiff for her to really eat, and she ended up sticking it too far into her mouth and then threw up all over me. That was fun. Not.
She is getting really good at feeding herself and gumming off pieces she can chew and eat. We've only had a couple gagging incidents that resulted in much of anything coming back up.
Hopefully she keeps making process because H isn't fully on board with the BLW. Not because he doesn't like the concept, but because the ped made him/us feel like she should be eating more food. I am constantly trying to point out how much she is really consuming, even if it doesn't look like it.
What are your thoughts/info on how much they should be eating. Ped said that, by 9 months, she should be eating a 4 oz jar of food in a sitting. That just seems like a lot, but it also contains a lot of water I would assume. I didn't even bring up the BLW because I didn't want to deal with it.
