STM: Is your DH staying with you in the hospital overnight?

Re: STM: Is your DH staying with you in the hospital overnight?

  • DH went home with DS afer DD was born. I'd rather him be home to take care of DS & keep him on routine, plus I told DH to go to work while I was in the hospital, he only gets 1 day leave paid so I didn't want him to waste his days while I was still in the hospital, I'd rather him use those days when I was home.

  • We still have no idea what we're going to do. I was alone both nights with DS and I regret it so much. I had a traumatic birth experience and wish he would've been with me at least the first night. However, he's over 6' tall and has degenerative disc disease and is always dealing with back pain. In a perfect world, I'd love to have him with me the first night. In reality, that's not likely.

  • Last time I had my mom spend the night one night (it was a holiday), and my husband spent the second night. I will probably do the same this time.
  • My DH stayed with my first but I found it easier with #2,&#3 that he stay home with the older siblings. With our 4th she was in the NICU so we both spent a lot of time there. Now with #5 if all goes well he will stay home except for delvery and and a few hrs each day
  • I don't think I'll have DH stay with me.  We have two older kids and I think that they will want to know that he's home.  Plus, that way he can get a couple of really good nights of sleep and I can let him take over for a couple of nights once I get home!  ;)

  • Probably not.  LO was born just after 2am, I made it to my room (a ward room shared with 3 others) just after 3am, so he couldn't even stay with me (because of the ward room thing).

I transferred to a semi-private the next day (which was basically private because no one was in the second bed) and I honestly can't remember if H stayed there or not.  I'm thinking not, because the chair was not at all comfortable.

  • DH's parents live nearby and are wonderful with DD (my parents live nearby, too, but they don't live together and she can be a lot for one person to handle, and they've never had her overnight) so we'll see what they feel comfortable with. If they ask to keep her overnight during my stay, I'll just make sure she is present with us during the day (I'm still nursing every few hours during daylight). If they only want to watch her the first night, I'll probably ask my mom to come stay with me on the night(s) DH is home.
