I'm scared I'm going to lose this baby.

Hello ladies, well I'm on here because I can use some incouragment right about now. I lost my baby in Jan 25 due to anacephly at 3 months. I am newly pregnant again and the doctor has me on 4mg of folic acid. Idk if I took enough before getting pregnant since I wasn't taking them religiously since I didn't think I would end up again especially so soon. I'm worried that I might loose this baby due to the same or if not just have a miscarriage last I checked my hcg levels were at 800 on Wednesday that just passed and my period is due on the 14th give or take a day or two before or after. Has anyone had a successful pregnancy after a pregnancy with anacephly? Where you taking folic acid before you got pregnant? Please help ladies I'm driving myself crazy =(

Congrats on your pregnancy. I am so sorry for your loss.

I am far from a success story (only 10 weeks) but can definitely relate to your experience. We lost our daughter to a different terminal diagnosis (a trisomy) in 2012 and then went on to have two earlier losses (one confirmed because of a different trisomy). Receiving a terminal diagnosis is heartbreaking and like you I am terrified of it happening again. What I keep reminding myself of is that every pregnancy is different and even though something so incredibly rare happened to us before it doesn't mean it will happen again. We are planning on having the Harmony genetic test done this week so we aren't completely blindsided at our NT scan again though of course the Harmony test doesn't test for everything. Perhaps a test like that might help too before doing the NT scan? It's terrifying but please know that you aren't alone in feeling this way. You and your sweet baby will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I don't know what that is, but I wanted to say welcome. I've been taking a prenatal for about a year now because we've been trying for at least that long. Maybe it's been a year and a half, even. But I don't think I'm taking as much as you are? Anyway, welcome and I hope things go well for you thins time around.

Welcome and congrats on this pregnancy. The best I can offer is to take it one day at a time. Today you are pregnant! Wishing you many healthy and uneventful months ahead!

No personal experience, but there were two ladies on PgAL with me the first go-round (2011) who had previous losses due to NTDs. One was anencephaly (sp?). Both went on to have their rainbows with me and have since had a second living child.

Sorry for your loss! I wanted to say congratulations and welcome!
I like Jess know all too well what it is like to be given a terminal diagnosis. I don't know much about what you had to deal with but I am also take extra folic acid. This is only as a precaution in hopes baby will get what it needs. I am sure if your doctor is doing it for the same reason than you should be ok as long as you are now taking it everyday. I wish you all the healthy vibes for a heathy baby!
