December 2013 Moms

? For mom's with school aged children.

We live in a tiny house and they are CONSTANTLY bringing stuff home from school. (art projects, science projects,A+papers)

I have a box for each of them and I have been saving stuff since kindergarten in one for each.....HERE is my question....How do you ladies decide what to keep and what to toss?

I am always so afraid I will throw something out that I want later so I (hoard) keep it all but after looking thru these things today...1/2 of it I was like "why did I keep this"

So what is your keep/toss criteria.

Thanks!

I throw most of it away. I'm a bad mom. I figure it's a small chance she'll care about it when she's older, she's not sentimental at all and neither was I at that age...and I'm not now.

  • I only keep really creative or funny things. I toss the rest. Never in front of him though. I think that would be kind of crushing.

  • I guess that is my problem I am horribly sentimental, I need to learn to just let it go.

I never throw things away in front of them when I do toss it, It would crush my 12yr olds heart.
  • I have no advice as a mum but as a teacher I had lots of artwork given to me. I would tell them I was going to file it under "g" (for garbage). I wouldn't tell them the garbage part so they were always pleased that I was "keeping" it. With my DD#1 now I just keep stuff she did completely independently (so very little).

  • Yeah, I don't like look at it and toss it in the trash in front of her. LOL
  • We use the Artkive app and only keep the really good (for the age) or sentimental items.

  • Yup. Take pictures of them, then put them in the circular file.

  • I would keep everything and than at the end of each year I would go through it and if I had the "why did I keep this" question it would go straight to the trash.
A few years ago I went through it all and now have 1 small container of stuff.
  • I love the take a picture idea so I am going to start doing that, Thanks for your responses guys!!!
