STM OR FTM W OUTSIDE BABY QUESTION: Peri-urethral tear: intense burning while urinating

Hi everyone--

So I gave birth April 3 and had a few bilateral "peri-urethral tears" (tears right by my urethra). Also went to the dr and I have a minor UTI (awesome)

For the past 4ish days I've been having some major intense burning while I pee. It gets so intense that I'm sobbing on the toilet trying to force myself to empty my bladder.

A few things I've tried: peri-bottle to squirt warm water while in urinating, taking meds for UTI, also taking something called uribel my dr gave me to numb it down there, and dermoplast (sp.?) which doesn't seem to do anything.

My dr was really vague about the whole thing and basically told me I have to just wait it out.

Any STM or FTM who have had their babe having this issue? Any advice on some relief?

  • I wasn't told that I tore right there last time, but I had horrid burning when I peed. I found the peri bottle helpful- I literally couldn't make myself start peeing, but if I started with the peri bottle it would eventually come. Dermaplast does nothing for me either. So sorry yours is awful & combined with a UTI. I hope it passes soon.

  • I had a friend who has this with her delivery and she had to get in the shower to urinate. She told me that the shower water flowing over the tear while she relived herself helped her burning significantly.
  • Sorry you are feeling this way! You are doing all the right things. Maybe you could ask your doctor for pyridium which helps with the pain. Good luck!

Deft going to give this a try. Read somewhere that you can cut up reg pads and drop witch hazel then freeze them. Is this what you did? Or did you try "tucks pads"?
  • From first time around I remember using Vaseline which acts as a barrier, was given it in hospital before, I have it packed in my hospital bag this time, I remember that burning feeling after peeing ouch!
  • Sitz bath in Epsom salts, stat.

  • Ugh this is me exactly. 1 week out from delivery and I am no longer crying everytime I pee but it is still painful. The antibiotics for the uti helped a little. I have also found sitting on ice before I pee helps a little bit. They say it gets better around week 2! Good luck!
