Bedtime bottle

My DD drinks 16-24 oz a day of formula plus she has 3 good meals, with occassional puffs and a little juice. All recommended by her doctor. She falls asleep around 8 with no bottle then at 10 I still dream feed 5 oz. at what point should I stop giving this bottle. I feel as though I'm at the point of just doing it to do it

Re: Bedtime bottle

  • I was just looking up what to do with my DD she is breastfed. She'll go to sleep around 8/8:30 and wake up twice during the night and the only thing that will get her to sleep again is to eat. Her doctor told me at her size she doesn't really need to eat during the night, it's just habit. And to offer an ounce it or 2 if warm water in a bottle. I'm not sure if that's what I'm going to do or not but she defiantly doesn't need to eat 2 hours after being put down when she goes 4 hours between feedings all day.

So in your situation I'd try skipping the bottle and see what happens...

E takes four 8oz bottles per day (doesn't always drink the whole thing every time) and also gets solids three times per day.

His last bottle is at 7PM, goes to bed at 7:45-8 and doesn't eat again until at least 7AM. He also gets solids at 6PM do he's pretty loaded up before bed! His schedule, not mine...I took his lead on that, he kind of ramps up his appetite in the evening.

I'd skip the bottle and see how it goes, you can always go back to it if it doesn't work out.

  • Wow you ladies have it made. DS gets a bottle before bed about 8 pm, wakes 2-3 times and a bottle is the only way he will go back to sleep. He also gets up at 4:30 for the day. So between 8-4:30 he goes through 12-16 ounces! In fact one night this week he needed a second bottle right after finishing one. We've tried to see if he will just fuss back to sleep but he goes into a full blown panic unless he gets a bottle.

  • Our LO gets her last bottle at 730 and then sleeps until 530. She had been getting up around 1:30 and we were feeding her, but pedi suggested if we were comfortable with it to stop feeding her then. We started just giving her a paci and she began STTN within a few days. I agree with pp, try skipping the bottle and see LOs reaction.

Yeah we are up for round 2....3 hours since last time. She is absolutely refusing the paci motn. I always try it 1st, she cries out like I'm trying to hurt her and pushed it away.....Boob it is.
  • I would top her off at 8:00and that's it. Even if she only drinks an ounce or two I would give her something before bed this way she will naturally wake up when she's hungry. Alexis gets 4 to 6 ounces before bed at 7:30 and then wakes up anytime between 3 and 6 AM for an 8 ounce bottle.

  • She has 3 meals a day and her last bottle is usually 7:30ish.  She goes to bed at 8:45 and then usually STTN till about 6:30 or 7 and occassionally she has woken up around 5am to have a full 4 oz bottle and then goes back to bed for a few more hours.
