I am just starting book one now! H wanted to show DD the first movie and I just really wanted her to have the book experience first. I have seen all the movies but never read them myself. We are only on Chapter three now- she doesn't have a super long attention span for chapter books but she loved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Can't wait to nerd it up with all of you!
It's going great! It's everything I hoped for! And by that I mean a place to discuss the GoT show with spoilers with people from other boards who like the series.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - 76,944 words
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - 85,141 words
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - 107,253 words
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire - 190,637 words
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - 257,045 words
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - 168,923
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Approximately 198,227
Basically the first 3 books are about the same size as Order of the Phoenix.
They're longer than I remember though!

Hey, I've written fanfiction longer than books 1-3. Heh.
I thought you said you wanted to read them to DS @luckydad? That'll be longer than a weekend, no?
Oh, that wasn't a serious plan to read them start to finish. More like a few pages at bedtime until he gets bored by the lack of pictures. But yeah, I'm sure it would take me at least a week to read Book 1!

FFHPC (Flame Free Harry Potter Confession): I only own books 4-7. I borrowed the first 3 from a friend and never bothered purchasing my own.
There is something seriously wrong with you. How do you live your life with an incomplete set of books?

Yes! I've never read them and I've been looking for a good excuse to start. I'm glad I won't be the only one reading them for the first time. My DD1 is almost 7 I wonder if she would be into them too.

Re: But, for real, HP book club?
Remember when some Christians condemned HP due to witchcraft?
Me too! And so excited for her to get to the later books!
Blasphemy!
That's the most important part of any book club.
