  • I am 37 weeks, but if I go into labor, I still want them to stop it. I need to stay at school until my due date, so I can teach my kids last minute stuff about the End of Course test. Or maybe that belongs in UO...
  • I am so done at work. I'm 37 weeks and I feel like baby brain is all I have left. But I'm working until my due date because I need to save my days. My FFFC is that I'm only taking 6 weeks off because in July I'm taking a vacation for our friend reunion we do every year. I wish I could take 8 weeks all at once but it'll be nice to have another break after going back.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • Fed up of being pregnant and need this baby out. Only 34 weeks though so need him to stay put really. Makes me wanna cry.
  • I'm waiting on my lab results still to see if I have cholestasis and last night I was itching so bad I told DH I'd be pissed if they came back normal and I wouldn't have to be induced in 2.5 weeks. I'm just so done with the itching I don't even care that I am wishing for abnormal labs. I'm a terrible person.

Ditto. I have a grad stats final two days before my due date and I'd really rather not take an incomplete.

Ok, so I wouldn't actually want them to stop labor, but I think I'm one of the only people on here that legitimately hopes to go past their due date.
It's not really going to my due date, but I feel the same was about making it to 38+ weeks. My official mat leave starts on May 3rd, and I don't want to have to re-do my work and government EI paperwork if I go before that date.It wouldn't be a huge deal, but I already did all the paperwork once so it would be a pain to have to do it again, and all rushed (and with a newborn), since you have to start your EI claim ASAP once mat leave starts.

  • I told DH in the beginning of my pregnancy that I had developed an aversion to uncooked pork with pregnancy and couldn't stand the sight of it much less buy and prepare it. This isn't really true I have never really like pork ( except bacon) and only bought and made things like pork chops because DH like them or it was a very good price of the grocery store. Now I'm dreading having to go back to getting pork after the baby is born.

Today is my last day at work and people are seriously overestimating the amount of shits I give. My boss has left for the day and I'm totally bailing in the next 30 minutes. You know what I got as a leaving gift for going on maternity leave? The office teamed together and got me a good luck card. Screw that shit. For the amount of money I've put in for birthdays and leaving gifts and you get me a fucking card? I'm done. Bye.
Do people usually put money in for people going on mat leave? I've seen people do this for people who were leaving permanently, but not for maternity leave.

I contribute to birthdays, etc and I like my coworkers, but I wouldn't expect anything from them when I go on leave. In fact, I'd be kind of impressed to be thought of at all.

  • One of the girls I work with (one of six people in our tiny office) spent the first half hour of the workday in our conference room, yelling at her husband. She walked out with puffy eyes, still crying. My FFFC is that even though she sits ten feet away from me, I am doing everything I can to avoid eye contact and any interaction with her because I find crying at the office to be one of the most awkward things ever.

I've never heard of doing anything for mat leave, but my department has always had a shower for the expectant parent (man or woman), and I would have been quite hurt if I'd gotten a card after kicking in all these years. I kind of imagine any card they'd give me before leave to basically say "We hate you. You suck. You need to be back at work, like, yesterday."

Over here it's normal to give a gift for maternity leave, as we don't do showers. I wouldn't mind but a "good luck" card with a 4 leaf clover on it is hardly appropriate for having a baby. I'd give that to someone who was sitting an exam or going to a new job. For an expectant mother it's just plain weird.

I'm not gift grabby at all, but I just seems like a kick in the teeth after all the work I've done over the last few years. Meh. I'm 3 minutes away from giving no shits at all until next spring.

I'm definitely hoping he stays in until his due date or after...we just moved and have too much to do in the next 5 weeks for him to come any earlier than that.

Oh I totally get it. If you're in one of the those offices where people contribute to every other type of event, it just seems kind of stingy on everyone else's part that they wouldn't reciprocate. It's not tit-for-tat, but still, you give $2-$5 for each person's birthday, promotion, etc., then you'd think that they could do the same for this type of thing.

  • I haven't cooked a meal all week. Between MIL being here and my parents being out of town and wanting to hang out with the baby when they got back, I've been eating like a queen on someone else's dime. It's been fab.u.lous. Oh and I gained 6 lbs this week. Being royalty has it's downside.

Yeah... that is definitely an odd card to give to someone as an acknowledgement of their baby. I don't know how I'd respond, other than a blank stare.

I think. "Oh. Thank you" was my response. It's not a particularly....umm...joyous card either. Most people put £5 in for birthdays and leavers. I got a card worth about £2.

Lol, it looks to me like someone forgot to buy the group card. So, someone probably rustled up this random one from the back of a desk drawer or from the gas station.

@ awc1986, I get what you mean. I work from home now, but when I worked in the office, I always helped plan things like group gifts, etc. It probably depends on each workplace, but we definitely did nice cards and group gifts for special occasions. I would think my work colleagues completely sucked if they gave me this card before I went out on leave!

I have never heated up my lunch meat while pregnant. No thank you. I baked a cake yesterday (because I wanted cake) and I licked the beater. It was delicious.

Yeah, the post-pregnancy indulgence thread made me realize that I really haven't stopped doing most of that stuff...  Ohhhh welll.

Same here. I've never been much of a drinker, but damn I want large quantities of wine.

It took two drinks for me to get drunk after I started drinking again last time around.  That was after a year of not drinking.

I've made it clear to DH that at some point after LO arrives and we are settled in a decent routine,  I am going to dedicate a night to getting drunk. Not having a drink, but actually getting drunk. I will not be driving, nor will I be responsible for care of LO (obviously). But I will have more than a glass of whatever I'm drinking and enjoy myself. Is it sad that I've planned already?

    I think it's sad if you haven't ;)

I too hope to go late.  I don't have much of a reason other than feeling not ready for two kids, and feeling more comfortable with a bigger baby versus a tiny baby.
