I don't let Nora crawl into daycare. She's not in a bucket but I carry her.
Leo doesn't walk in any parking lot. I carry him into daycare everyday.
I carry DD in every day too. Even though she walks/runs very well, she is not very skilled at holding my hand and walking next to me, so it would just be way too dangerous to be in a parking lot with her on the ground.
I will hijack this thread to say THANK YOU to all of the moms that posted on my IG picture the other day with your encouragement after one of my IRL friends had a smart ass comment.
I just went to look because I missed that picture. So not necessary! I'm sorry she said that to you!

I just looked this up. I did not see that. What a crappy friend
Nancy has started a new thing where when we get in the car she acts a fool and tries to crawl over the seat into the front. She locks her legs and laughs at me the whole time. It makes me crazy. She's tall and her legs are definitely squished RF, but I just don't care. Because I'm mean.

hAve you tried guiding her to cross her legs? Colby crosses his ankles almost every time he is in the car, but he is a shorty.

I have to carry Ethan into daycare because he doesn't take direction at all. I let him walk to the classroom once we get inside and he walks to the door when we leave, but once we get outside. I pick him up. Maya stands next to the wall while I put Ethan in the car, or take him out and then I go get her and put her in the car. It works really well for us.

I wonder if her kid is still in the infant bucket.
omg. can you imagine hauling that around iwth one of the toddlers?
My DD has been out of the bucket since 9 months old. I found out I was pregnant with baby #2 by that time & the bucket was way too heavy for me to lift. Baby #2 just turned 2 months old & is a big guy. The bucket is getting heavy & I hate carrying it around. I wouldn't mind switching him to a convertible by this summer.
I don't get why anyone would judge someone else for RFing their kid. Nobody has ever mentioned it to me, except for my mom who just says "I forgot she was still RFing" but that is just because her 3 yo cousin isn't.
DD would probably technically still fit in a bucket I guess... she's still only around 21 lbs, and a shorty, but she'd look huge in one, and I'm too lazy to cart that around. I can't imagine how nuts I'd look carrying both of my kids in buckets haha.
I've never seen anyone judge or get judged for RF'ing.
Really? I guess it's not outright judge. But I've definitely heard "isn't she squished like that?" and "wouldn't she rather look out the front?"
Yeah, what cheese said. I've never been judged per se, but people just think the baby would be happier FF. It doesn't really bother me either way bc my kid, my choice, and they never really dwell on it.
Those with "scrunched legs" - sometimes a different seat can make a huge difference - but most kids really are more comfortable with squished legs then dangling legs that go to sleep (when you turn them around often times those legs will dangle off the edge)
here are some pictures of other kids extended rear facing (NOTE I DID NOT READ THE REST OF THE SITE - IT MAY BE ONE OF THOSE - LISTEN TO THE HORRIBLE THING THAT HAPPENED WHEN I FF'D MY KID AND GOT IN AN ACCIDENT - NOT MY INTENT) The pictures are good:
I always put my feet up on the dash when sitting in the passenger seat when we are on longer drives. Or sit indian style. It is more comfortable for me to sit like that.

EXCUSE ME. It's called criss-cross applesauce now, thankyouverymuch.
When I typed it, I thought surely it isn't called this anymore. Whatevs, I'm part Indian.
I've never seen anyone judge or get judged for RF'ing.
Me either. No one is being that nosey looking in my car for the 30 seconds I'm getting DD out either.
I kept thinking that as I was reading this thread too! I've been wondering how many of these occurrences took place IRL vs in comments of RF pics on IG or FB. Because, step off. You should not be that close to my car.

I totally do this too. I am embarrassed to admit how far I went into my adult life before I actually thought about the dangers of putting my feet on the dash. I tried to stop, but it's a habit I can't break.
I remember as a kid how cool it was when I could ride in my friend's parent's station wagon that had seats in the rear that faced backwards. I remember when backwards was COOL! Frankly, I still think it is cool.
Yes! I wanted my mom to get one of those sososo bad. Instead she got a boring minivan.
This made me remember being in elementary school and riding to school in the way back of my neighbors land rover. No seats or seat belts, oy.
We pulled out the infant seat a week or two ago while getting our 2.0 stuff in order and Beb insisted on sitting on it. It was less than 3 seconds before she realized she wanted nothing to do with being in there. I could not imagine the fight it would be if that was still our everyday seat.
Really? But it's anonymous? I'm sure not 100% of us are still RF - why not vote that way if you know you can be honest but not get flamed? I would be surprised if a board reg commented with that, though.
I can think of a few board regs that have posted about flipping already.
Raises arm.
You don't count, Juli. You're fearless to the wrath;)
So a few notes.. my plan is to rear face until four - we recently bought new cars (because ours were dead not for carseat reasons) and I made sure that we had a plan for 2 rear facing carseats (I'm pregnant) - because its that important to me. (Why 4 you ask? - because thats when the spine ossifies and thus the risk of internal decapitation is over) Will we make it to 4? well there are a lot of factors.
I have a g/f whose son is over 35 pounds at 18 months - he's ff - I've NEVER said anythign to her - it makes me sad but I also understand the heft that is this kid (he looks like a 3 year old line backer) - I shudder at choices my daycare parents make around me and try not to look at them or their choices (We are changing daycares soon hopefully - its a nightmare (not because of that) )
We have friends that have their 18 month old in the bucket still - she still fits (its the Onboard 35 - one of the tallest shells and goes to 35 pounds) - and yes they haul her into daycare in it (she's tiny) but ONLY because its the only carseat they have and one parent drops off and the other picks up
Cruz still rides in his bucket carseat and we have to bring it in to/leave it at daycare whenever our schedule requires it. But we don't still carry Cruz around in it!
