I don't think there's anything wrong with getting a (gasp!) elective ultrasound to find out the sex of the baby earlier than 20 weeks. I'm thinking about doing it myself!
I don't agree that we should be given so much leeway because we're emotional / hormonal pregnant women. I can't stand when people use that excuse for being nasty, going off on people, etc. It just irks me.
I'm thinking about getting a (gasp!) elective ultrasound to find out the sex of my baby earlier than 20 weeks.
I am definitely doing this at 16 weeks. It's only 50 bucks, why not? I don't see why it would bother anyone...it isn't harmful and it doesn't affect anyone else.

I get U/Ss every month so as soon as they can tell, I'm going to want to know!
This is super random but I feel like I've been seeing them everywhere recently... I think Louis Vuitton bags are UGLY. Why in the world would you pay 1k+ to advertise for someone? I don't get it.
It's looking like I'm going to get one once a week for medical purposes so go for it ladies!
Are you sure that is medically necessary? Haven't you read unconfirmed, poorly structured studies that state that frequent ultrasounds may actually be... oh... perfectly safe. I guess you can keep listening to your doctor then!

I think I need to know where you found a place that will do an ultrasound for $50?! Around here they're like a $100 and I can't justify that when I get one at 20 weeks that my insurance pays for but I can figure out a way to justify $50.
The woman who left her 2 kids (2 years and 6 months) in the hot car to go on a job interview? It's pissing me off that she's getting all these donations and sympathy and calls for charges to get dropped.
Yes, it's a shitty situation when you are unemployed and cannot find childcare to go on a job interview. BUT, she did an incredibly stupid thing and is getting rewarded for her bad behavior (the donations). Maybe I'm cold and heartless, but I see it as no different had she left her kids in a hot car to go to a bar or shopping.
You can't find childcare, you reschedule the interview for when you can.

Damn straight! There are state programs that provide subsidized child care for job searches, subsequent employment, and going back to school. No excuses! What the hell is she expecting to do when/if she gets the job?

It's a service my Doctor's office offers lol. It is in-office with their equipment. I'm assuming it's cheaper because it isn't one of the ultrasound boutique places.
I am a co-sleeper, I never intended it to be this way but when your baby cries day and night and you know letting him sleep beside you ensures a few consecutive hours of rest you do what works. That was the first 4 months while he was colic, now he's almost 17 months and he still sleeps with us, we get a lot of grief about it. I feel every family is different and for now this is what works for us!

We still co-sleep about twice a week with our son (29 months tomorrow) and love it. People give us shit about it but it works for us so IDC what they say or think.

That's neat! I'm not a fan of the U/S boutiques either lol. I have an acquaintance that gets one every month. I think that's a bit excessive when it isn't necessary.
With ds I got an ultrasound at our local sonogram program at the college. They just ask for a 10 dollar donation. I got it at 16 weeks to see what the sex was. Just FYI look into the colleges.
Oh hell. They've raised $99,000!!! Holy shit. This woman left the ignition on, but the ac off???? And the baby had a blanket on!!! Wtf. This is just wrong on so many levels.
I'm a Christian. I'm also a scientist (or studying to be one). I see no problem with being both, and it pisses me off when people tell me that science is false because "God made the world, End of Story," or similar things. I don't think that God didn't make the world, but there's got to be a happy medium between God just poofing things into existence and the process that science says occurred, like maybe God driving that process.

Not unpopular with me! We are cosleepers too! Works great for us.

Totally agree! We are going at 14 weeks and are so excited!
I don't agree with when women say they lost the whole 40 lbs or whatever they gained during pregnancy and act like they worked out to lose it all.
A huge amount is "lost" when you give birth. You didn't workout to lose the weight of the baby, the baby came out. You lost whatever was left over after the baby/placenta/fluids came out.

This is a little later, but my doctor offers a free 3D ultrasound if your prenatal care bill is paid by 27 weeks.

Say you lost the last 20 lbs or however much.
Um..I left the hospital about 2lbs lighter than I went in. I was very jealous of these women who leave the hospital 20-something lbs lighter.
This is a true UO. I think it's silly that you "need to know the sex of the baby so you can prepare." I am basically the worlds biggest over preparer and I did just fine painting my nursery yellow and buying neutral baby gear. Moms have been doing just fine preparing for babies for centuries without ultrasounds to tell them the gender. It also blows my mind when people get upset that it's not the gender that they wanted. Umm you just found out that you have a healthy baby developing in there and you're crying b/c it's not a girl, stop being such an asshole.

I just want to know so I can buy all the cute clothes. I have found very little, clothes-wise, that is gender neutral!
I think it's crap that people are so concerned with boy vs. girl. I mean, I'm sure lots of people have preferences, but to literally be upset and crying about it is bullshit. As is putting a badge on your bump siggie prior to finding out because you want that specific sex.

How cool is that?! My dr doesn't do them. She says there is no medically necessary reason to do them for patients that aren't high risk so they just don't offer them in her office. She doesn't discourage you from getting one. In my last pregnancy I had to go to the high risk office to get an US for a better look at my daughter's heart. My dr told me to be really sweet to the US tech and then ask if she would give me a 3D peek that way I wouldn't have to go pay for one. Of course I ended up in one of the two rooms that didn't have a 3D machine. Just my luck LOL. In the end we opted not to do one. Honestly, I think they are kind of creepy. I guess that's my UO.
My in-laws are making me absolutely insane with the baby needing to be a boy to carry in the family name. Seriously?! Are we in medieval times? Your son isn't the king of England...

I'd flip my shit. Honestly. WTF?
My MIL has said in the past that she can't wait to have a grandSON. But since finding out I'm pregnant, she hasn't said anything. I have a feeling that DH may have told her to shut her mouth, haha.

I totally agree with the gender disappointment part of your statement. I will be 100% happy with whichever sex we get. As long as the baby is healthy.
I know you don't get people wanting to know so they can prepare but you don't need too. We want to know. And honestly, I don't understand not wanting to know. It's not my place, however, to make people who don't want to know feel bad.

I hate that this is such a UO. Maybe not so much here, but definitely in the real world. Who gives a crap where my kid sleeps? If it works for us then why does it matter? It sucks that co-sleeping has to be a dirty secret.

I agree. I don't get why it's such a bad thing. Lots of non-western cultures co-sleep and their SIDS numbers are lower than ours. As long as you're safe about it, it's not a big deal. I co-slept with DD for awhile because it was the only way she would sleep. I loved it!

Agreed. There's lots of things people couldn't do "back in the day", but that doesn't mean we shouldn't do them now that we are able to. I love modern medicine!
And I don't really have an excuse like "I need to prepare" - I'm just plain excited!

Yeah, that totally pisses me off too. I was kinda surprised that the public opinion was in her favor. I think the crying mugshot is what did it. I deal with so many truly crappy parents, I have very little sympathy for someone like that, especially when I know how many services are available to people that need them.

I think it's more when people say it's a necessity. It's not. It's nice, but the baby is going to come either way. I don't care for people that act like it's the end of the world if they don't know. Granted, if you have a life threatening condition that runs in males or females, that's different, but most people aren't in that boat.
