Idiotic Clearblue weeks estimator question

I can't believe I'm even asking this question, but let's get it over with. I am 18dpo and was charting temps and all sorts of other symptoms, so I am 100% certain of my ovulation date. I took one of those Clearblue weeks estimator tests this afternoon after downing a lot of water and it came up 3+ weeks which apparently means HCG levels of over 2000? This is 5x the average for 18dpo and now thanks to that a-hole Dr. Google I see that molar pregnancies and some trisomies can accompany abnormally high HCG. Is it worth calling to speak to a nurse tomorrow about getting a blood draw so we have real information to go on or should I just take a chill pill and meditate until my first appt in mid May? I suppose it goes without saying that, at the least, I need to step away from the Google.

  • I wouldn't worry about it. High hcg can be associated with multiples. Or sometimes you just have high hcg! Congratulations!

I think all you can guess from that is that you are 100% definitely pregnant :D

Those urine tests are not nearly as accurate as blood tests and something as simple as being a bit dehydrated (though I see you said you drank water) or if you took more than five seconds to test can skew the concentration. Those tests are mostly meant for fun, not to scare ya. When I took those I got a ? (broken test) a 3+ and later 2-3 all in the same day. Wait until a blood test to see if it's still high. Otherwise, no worries. And congrats :)

  • I don't know anything about these tests but I am really interested in what you find out. Like the other women said, I'm sure everything is fine but my doctor always tells me to call even for the "silliest" of questions. Never feel bad to call if you're going to worry too much.

If it makes you feel any better I got 3+ only 3 days after where you are now and so far everything seems to be proceeding fine (I had blood betas for the week prior and everything looked normal).

I don't see anything to worry about but I would ask for a blood draw just because I always want more information and that way the doctor knows the actual number and they can decide if they want to monitor more closely or not.

  • I wouldn't put too much stock in what those say, or use them as an accurate quantitative measure of hcg. FWIW, my beta hcg was 12,000+ on 21 dpo. Being pgal, molar pg and other bad things passed through my head, and I haven't had a u/s yet, but for now I'm choosing to see it as a good thing - a nice strong pregnancy.

  • Step away from those tests. They've been inaccurate for so many people. You were charting so you know exactly how far along you are. And as far as HCG levels go, mine at 4w6d was 4920. I've got one baby in there measuring perfectly. So don't sweat this.

     TTC since August 2011, Me = 40, DH = 38
Unexplained IF. Tried Clomid for 3 cycles. All BFNs. BFP 1/6/13. Chemical pregnancy.

Moving on to IVF#1. ER 11/26/13, 16 eggs retreived, 12 mature and all fertilized. 2 blasts transferred on 12/1. All other embies arrested so nothing left to freeze. Beta 12/10 = BFN. IVF #2 March 2014. BFP!!! TEAM BLUE!!!

I agree. My hcg at 5 weeks was over 4000 with a singleton.

  • Thanks for talking me off the ledge, everyone. It took 8.5 months for me to become this insane last time. I'm going to stay positive and spare myself the indignity of being the crazy pregnant patient for now :)

I would step away from the pee sticks and from Dr. google and try to relax. Unless you are bleeding or cramping I would not call doc. May will be here before you know it!!
    This exactly.
