Sleep/breathing monitors - false alarms?

We have the Babysense Breathing monitors and both Friday night and last night the alarm went off.  When we went running in there we found our DD lying in her crib, just fine. The alarm doesn't wake either of them up, and she was breathing and opened her eyes when we put our hand on her.  My DH says he saw her breathing as soon as he ran in there (somehow he managed to beat me to the crib - a credit to him as he can sleep through anything!).  We have both sensors under the mattress and she was in the middle of the crib, we replaced the batteries after Friday's scare.  Has anyone ever had false alarms like this with them?  I read putting a board between the springs and the sensors can help if they are breathing too shallow (which I read they do when they get a bit older and sleep more soundly)?  I'm just wondering if anyone else has had experience with this.  Thanks!

Re: Sleep/breathing monitors - false alarms?

  • we have the angelcare monitor for DS - and have plywood between the springs and the mattress - it helps... i think it says in the directions that you should do this.

we have had a handful of false alarms- in almost 2 years.... usually it's just the warning signal- not the full alarm... when he scoots over to a corner or soemthing.

I don't think any of the systems out there are false alarm-free.... so if you can't handle them- it's not the product for you... but for us- we would rather have a few false alarms than worry every minute we were trying to sleep ;0)

and yes- we still use it for DS.... DH says he wants to use it until he's 18 :) haha.

  • We also have the Babysense breathing monitors and thankfully they have yet to gone off, I think dh and I would both pee in our bed if they did.  Dh did put boards inbetween the springs and the sensor before he installed them.
