STMs

Does anyone else feel like their baby is like the complete opposite of their older child? Some days I have a hard time believing they are related.

For example, DD1 slept great. DD2 had colic and reflux and is now just nocturnal. And yesterday I noticed that DD2 is cutting a tooth, while DD1 didn't get teeth until she was almost 1.

Some days I just feel completely unprepared for this baby even though I am a STM.

Re: STMs

  • Yup, but its the opposite.

DS was a fussier baby until we FF at 2.5mo. He also was sleeping in crib at 1mo in his room and was fine being handled by others.

DD is a chill baby, but loves to ebf. She rooms in, in her crib and gets scared being handled by others if she can't see mommy.

They spoiled us in different ways.

  • DD was a napper and still doesn't sleep all the way through the night without waking at least once.  DS will not nap hardly at all but STTN.

DD didn't roll until 8 mos, crawl until a year and walked at 14 months.  DS is already on hands and knees rocking and rolled at like 2.5 mos.  He eats solids like a champ and hates his crib.  He is the exact opposite of DD.

I am experiencing the same thing you are.  I feel like he was supposed to be my easier baby since I have already been through this, but he is just giving me different issues to work out.
  • YES!! Except thankfully DS2 is much
more chill than DS1 ever was!!

All three of mine are very different but I'm lucky, they got easier besides the bottle resisting this one has.
  • Yes, my kids are opposite. DD1 was my tough cookie (still is!) and DD2 is much more chill.  I'm glad it happened that way as I would have lost my mind if I had a toddler and a tough infant.  DD1 is amazing though and what makes her challenging also makes her such a cool kid.

  • My son is an extremely happy baby and very much about the pacifier or finger/thumb sucking.

He doesn't like his crib and will fall back to sleep almost instantly when he's picked up or cuddled.

My daughter slept in her crib at 3 months, was cranky and liked to be walked around a lot.

    They both hate to nap.

  • It is amazing how different the parenting experience is.  DS was a very challenging, high needs baby.  DD is much easier and mellower overall and was a much better sleeper in the early months, but is waking 4-6 times at night now, and the bottle refusal was an unexpected curveball.  It has made my return to work vastly more stressful, and DH and I still haven't so much as been out to dinner since she was born because we are too exhausted to go out after the kids are in bed, but I can't be gone for bedtime because she won't take a bottle.

We had been planning on a third before DD was born, but have now decided we are done, done, done!

  • Definitely very different!

DS fights sleep like it's his job, and cries a lot more than DD ever did.  On the opposite end, he laughs, smiles and babbles way more than she did.  It's so hard having a challenging baby when you have a toddler wanting your attention all the time.

I tell DH that if DS had been first, we might not have had a second.  So thank goodness DD came first.  She is such a joy and such an awesome big sister.  She loves her brother so much and wants to help all the time.
