Chitter Chatter Tuesday

Re: Chitter Chatter Tuesday

  • I got my HPV vax at 15. That one hurt because it's a clicky shot.

I am dreading an appt I have later this month because I have to take both kids with me and DH can't get of work. April sucks so far, and I was hoping to have some fun stuff in my future (like L'Bri sign up and a weekend away). I'm getting the life sucked out of me and I'm being a wah-wah about it.

But I applied for 2 jobs and I got calls for interview for both less than 24 hours after I submitted the apps so that's maybe good.

    STUCK:

Hooray!  I'm glad you're going to do L'Bri!  Hope it works out for you!

I've seen this on FB twice in the last hour.
I then looked it up on snopes and it's false.

I don't understand why people blindly re-post things on FB without bothering to check into it first.  And sure, maybe snopes isn't the most credible source, but it's quick and at least gives more information than some picture meant to scare you and tug at your heartstrings.
Oof. So annoying. (The not checking facts more so than the anti-vax, for me.)

  • @tinyhumantoe‌ what sensor and what kind of car? Get other quotes. Our shop will beat a dealer Quote 9 times out of 10 using the same parts.
Yes, that is our plan.  It's the wheel sensor on a 2008 Scion XB.  I heard it's a pain in the ass to get to to replace, but not to the tune of $800 for the part and labor.

Pretty much every single thing that has gone wrong with DHs car has been quoted at $800 to fix.  AC compressor, power steering, steering column had to be replaced.

Add me to the list of people that hate cars.
  • @harti09‌ screw him. I hope it didn't get you upset. I couldn't imagine having two 18 month olds completely by myself. From your IG and what you've posted here it seems like you are doing a GREAT job with them. He clearly has no idea what it takes to raise kids.

  • I have 93K miles on my car.  I've replaced my tired and had my brakes done.  That's it.  Ever.  I will probably continue buying Toyotas forever.

My first car was a 1989 Camry.  That sucker had almost 200K miles on it and would have kept kicking had my Dad not totaled it.  My parents have been buying or leasing Toyotas (either Camry or Carolla) since the mid 80s.  I love them.

It depends on the set up. I'd have to look it up on Thursday at work for a specific price and labor. Some wheel sensors are located in a hub assembly. If it is part of the assembly then the part can be that price. I do not see labor being that much. To replace a hub assembly would be an hour to 2 maybe depending on age, rust, crap and all that. If it is not part of the hub assembly and it requires the bearings to be pressed that is more labor but then the part should not be that price at all. (Hub is what the wheel sits on so it requires dismounting tires and brake system to get to the hub)

Is the abs light on? Is that how you know? Or is it doing funky things? I would get another quote. :)

DH and I talked about starting a garden this year. Decided it would be too much work to build what we wanted (raised bed) for right now -- we have way too many inside projects to take care of. But that we'd do herbs and tomatoes on the deck.

Dude goes to Fleet Farm and comes back with 15 different kinds of vegetable seed packets. FIFTEEN. Uff da.
I bought 2 sets of raised beds from Sam's Club a couple years ago for around $30 each.  They're made out of composite material and they're awesome.  I'd look into that vs. making your own and renovating a whole area.  I set mine up in around 20 minutes around this time of year, then tacked down plastic sheeting to kill the grass for 6 weeks or so until it was time to plant.

Also, I'd never start seeds again.  Ever.  I live in Wisconsin.  My vegetables wouldn't be ready until November.

  • Have you guys seen the Toyota commercial with the Muppets?  FFS, I've had "There's a bin for your chicken!" running through my head for 2 days.  Last night I even had a dream about putting chickens in my Toyota.

Also, IT'S APRIL 8TH!  IT IS TIME TO TAKE DOWN YOUR CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS.  We've had 2 really nice weekends in a row.  It's been plenty warm enough (by WI standards) to take down your stuff.

What really drives me bonkers is the dead wreaths people have on their front door, or right outside their front door on the house.  There's no excuse for not taking those down.  Lights, sure.  I get that.  But wreathes?  N.O.

I watch Hulu when running on the treadmill sometimes and that commercial plays in almost every break the show has. It's in my head the rest of the day. I am one of those people with my Christmas wreath....I just took it down a few weeks ago. It's a fake one though, so no dead branches on the door. That makes it ok, right? ;)

  • My back is out.  It makes me feel really old and it comes at a horrible time.

We are basically moving out of our house for 5 days starting tonight so the flooring can FINALLY get done.  I'm happy but not ready to be in a hotel for 5 days.

My FIL is an asshole and recanted his offer to let us purchase a house and have it moved onto the family farm.  So we are back at ground zero with no idea what to do.  I am pissed, and scared and so done with DH's parents.  DH thinks his dad will change his mind.  I told him that even if he did, I didn't want to move out there, because what would stop him from doing something like this again?  And while we would own the house, we would not own the property it sits on.

    Sorry......

That sucks :( Sorry you have to deal with that now.

  • DH had a follow up with the doctor yesterday. 3 more weeks off of work. We got a letter from workers comp last Friday stating they were terminating his benefits. Anyone have any insight?

No real insight, just wanted to say sorry you're dealing with that. Can you call HR or your insurance and see if you can get the benefits to continue?

  • DH and I started the Paleo diet yesterday. I don't know how I feel about it yet. I do know by Thursday my candy/cheese/carb loving self is most likely going to be a raging bitch. The diet actually seems plausible though so hopefully after a few weeks it'll be easier and just seem normal.

  • Keagan and I started indoor seeds 3ish weeks ago? Yeah, I am failing so miserably. We planted 28 seeds and have maybe 6 plants? When it comes to planting time I might just go buy some baby plants.

I had my 1-hour last week, and the nurse destroyed my arm.

She used a vein that was damn near on my forearm, and I now have a roughly 3-inch bruise running the length of the vein.  So, I'm probably anemic again.  And it hurt like a bitch.

Eek!  That's what is so fucked up about it.  It's a consumable.  They're not "borrowing" it, they're freaking using it.  IMO it's not something you borrow.  If it's such a dire need that you can't go buy a tank right now (Walmart is open 24 hours, so what's the excuse?), then you could borrow it and replace it with a full one the next day.  Sigh.
I would rather go to a 24hr store than ever go and borrow anything from my neighbors.  They're all perfectly nice people, but seriously, I don't want anymore friends.  Much less neighbor friends who think it's ok to pop over whenever they want because they know you're home.  When my next door neighbor moved last year we started a "walk and wave" campaign.  We see them on walks, we wave and keep walking.  We never stop.  Our neighborhood even started a newsletter last year that keeps everyone up to date on what all their neighbors are up to.  It's put out by the guy behind us who doesn't wear pants.  He's very nice, but he needs pants.  Or curtains.  One of the two.

This sounds like a terrible idea. Don't buy a house that you can never sell because you don't own the land. If you guys work something out, he needs to buy the home and lease it to you or sell you a parcel of land with access to a road. You can probably do some right of purchase agreement saying he gets first rights to buy if you need to sell.
Yeah I am starting to realize that it may not have been the best plan to begin with, but it still meant we were able to take care of ourselves and our daughter.  Now, I don't know and that scares the shit out of me.

  • So uh........ last night I found a patch of missing hair and bloody scabbed wound on my cat.  Took him to the vet today.  Enormous dog bite that the vet thinks happened a week ago.  He has two canine holes and underneath a deep nasty wound the size of a half dollar.

:(  How did I not notice it sooner?  Dude got his ass kicked!

    @DianeD1
I did paleo for a few months. We def. had carbs every now and then, but generally were good about it. The first few weeks, I lost a lot of weight that I really needed to lose. Despite changing up my exercise routine, my weight loss slowed. I switched out of paleo, and added some carbs back in, but kept a lot of the healthy alternative carb ideas I learned while doing it. I started lose weight again at that point.

I feel like it's important to switch up your diet every now and then, especially if your overall goal is weight loss. I am a FIRM believer in "everything in moderation".

Good luck! Make paleo lasagna with zucchini, paleo bread, cauliflower rice, squash noodles, etc. :)

catching up. I'd never do the Paleo diet, personally. But I can tell you that your sweet/carb cravings WILL go away. For me, itw as about 2 weeks to be completely gone when I cut out carbs.
Ditto.  I actually did Paleo for a week with a friend (was staying with her, she was doing it, we ate together...nothing super-intentional) and felt worse than usual.  Apparently carbs are not an issue for me, but something I was eating a ton of on Paleo was, lol.

But honestly?  If I don't have the option of sweets, I don't really want them.  Get that stuff out of the house and it becomes much easier :)

I'm not doing it to lose a bunch of weight, more to hopefully have a healthier life style. DH is doing a 24 hour bike race with my dad to support cancer research in June and he really wants to drop some weight (so for him it is about weight loss at first) and feel better before hand. After that I'm sure we'll eat things like carbs and cheese from time to time. Since moving we haven't been the healthiest so I'm looking forward to helpfully getting back into a healthy eating routine. Everything sweet and tempting is out of the house so that's good! Thank you for your input and ideas! I love using zucchini instead of noodles in my lasagne :)
