I don't post very often but I am a firm believer in the power of prayer. At this point we need all that we can get. At about 24 weeks I was diagnosed with a short cervix. I was measured once a week for a few weeks, started on progesterone, and then eventually referred to a high risk doctor. At my first appointment I was told my cervix looked great, however my world was then shattered when the doctor said he could see a congenital heart defect on our son. They immediately sent me for a fetal echo. The cardiologist told us he has two separate defects. The first includes a hole between the top and bottom two chambers as well as small pulmonary vessels. The second involves the two main arteries leaving from the right ventricle because the left ventricle is too small to be functional. Our son will need a series of 2, possibly three open heart surgeries. The two will be at 3 months and 2 years, they will essentially route around the left side of his heart completely. The third will all depend on the amount of blood flowing to the lungs at birth. If it's enough no surgery needed but if its too much or two little he will need a surgery at 2-4 days old. We are hoping for the best and thankfully we live 45 minutes from one of the top 5 pediatric heart surgeons in the world, so I know our son is in good hands.
