my husband's "grandma" made a hideous jacket thing & booties for the baby. long story short he's not even her grandson but no one has the heart to tell her apparently. he's never even met the women nor spoken to her. she also made us blankets that are decent enough to keep & use somehow.
should we still send her a picture of the baby wearing it? i'm kind of iffy about that. we will at least be sending a thank you note.
Probably, but if you don't want to don't. Just be aware that people who put the effort in to make something handmade for your little one do it out of an incredible amount of love.

To get back to the original post... Even if something is ugly or NMS, I don't see the harm in putting it on the kid, snapping a picture, and sending it along to the giver just to be gracious. If it's something completely useless, I either hide it away somewhere or lie about why I need to return it, like, it was broken or I have two. Returning gifts or telling someone I didn't like a gift was always a big etiquette no-no for me growing up and has stuck.
I'm not going to lie, I didn't think this thread was that bad or SS-ish. I actually read it through to see what everyone did, since I personally have a hard time saying I don't like a gift and have been stuck not knowing what to do with some ridiculous things (like the time my aunt gave me a candle that looked like a vagina... Awkward).
I don't get the need to limit ourselves to posting in these specific threads. I think it's gotten a little obnoxious and :gasp: dragged down the board.
@kaceymarie so she's the mother of the guy whose last name your H got, not his biological dad or stepdad? But does he have a relationship with her? I'm really close to my godfather, for example, and call him "uncle" although we're not actually related. The relationship matters more than whether she's actually his grandmother, in my mind. And if there's no relationship at all how is she still involved at this point?
I dunno guys, 30 is a LOT of freakin' bows! I bet I have never had 30 bows total in my lifetime.
I totally did. My sisters and I didn't wear that many ourselves, but we have several pictures of us putting them in my uncle's hair every time he came over. Lol
We just had our shower on Sunday and I received a set of preemie clothes. It seemed a tad odd but I guess now we're prepared if LO does come early. If she's on time I doubt she'd even fit in them!
@lest12 do you have a picture of the vagina candle? That sounds very... interesting.
Ahahahaha... I don't have the candle anymore but it kind of looked like this -
She gave it to me at our housewarming party and I put it out, then DH and my mother both asked me where the vagina candle came from (it might look worse if you are looking down on it and it isn't actually lit?). I didn't see it at first but once they said that, it's all I could think of.
I felt so bad but I had to leave it out for that day... and then I'd only put it out when she was coming to visit for the next 6 months or something, then I finally tossed it.
Well my husband purchased a onsie that says "Daddy's Little Republican". I'm a Democrat so I'm kind of hoping baby does some serious spit up on it. My actual UGLIEST gift ever came from my MIL. I told Husband to let her know I would like a pair of pajamas for my bday. He interpreted this as a one piece pajama set. Sure enough she found an ADULT DENIM FOOTIE/Hoodie PAJAMA!!! I wanted to let her know she misunderstood and I'd like to exchange. He said her feelings would be so hurt, so I didn't say anything, but I know they weren't cheap.

DENIM!?!?!?! Hahahahahaha! Is it possible it is so terrible it is awesome?
*oh, and I am not laughing AT you just at the awesome picture A DENIM HOODIE FOOTIE PAJAMA creates in my head. ~wipes tears~
If I got anything I didn't like I returned it if possible. If it was unreturnable they would wear it once for that person and then they magically grew out of it and couldn't wear it again. Because I donated it. I don't have enough storage space to keep crap I won't use. If anyone ever asked I was all, oh they wore it a couple times but they grew out of it so fast! Or, oh man it was so cute till they pooped all over it, ahh babies...
some of these things sound positively HORRIBLE!!! my grandma bless her heart got me the ugliest most awful booties for baby girl! first their green (ewww green!) and they have these puffy balls on them..they look like cat toys! just awful! i was just honest with my grandma and told her they are NOT my style she said shed save them for the next grandbaby!! oookkkkk grandma!

I saw this and I thought of you.
