Mommy tip of the week: To save some time, toss all those bath toys, teethers, solid plastic baby toys, etc in a mesh laundry bag and put them in the top rack of your dishwasher. It will clean them in half the time!

Resource links (feel free to post them in your comments so we can add them as we go along)

HERE IS THE LINK TO THE WHATS IN BREAST MILK PICTURE. That way you can read it better if you wish :)https://doublethink.us.com/paala/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/whats-in-breastmilk-poster-canada.jpg

  • @megs3084‌ it took me 5 weeks for my milk to come in fully. Don't measure your milk supply by how much you are pumping as it is no indication of how much you are producing. Lots of women don't respond well to pumping plus babies are much more efficient :) it's so hard to trust your body in the beginning but nurse, nurse, nurse! It's basically all I did for the first 2 months but it does get easier. Drink lots of water and also pump (if you can) after each session. It may take a week until you get any milk if you pump after nursing but it will help build supply. 1 oz an hour is pretty good at this point though.

  • 1. How old are your LOs: almost 5 months!

    2. Short term/ Long term goals: 6 months / past 1st birthday

    3. Accomplishments / Struggles: we have almost made it half a year and I'm so excited!! They are waking alllll the time and having a hard time sleeping. Hopefully it's just a phase but it's wearing me down a lot.

    4. EBF, EPing, Supplementing?: EBF with 1 night time supplement. CJ getting 2 oz at night if needed and CW gets 1 oz.

    5. Any questions this week?: when did night time nursing sessions slow or stop?

    6. GTKY: What is your favorite summer activity? Picnics and going to the beach!

  • 1. How old are your LOs: 4.5 months :)

    2. Short term/long term goals: 6 months. I'd like to nurse them to a year but we'll see ...

    3. Accomplishments/struggles: One of them has reflux. He used to be a happy spitter but in the past month he has been in pain. I am starting to learn what I need to cut out of my diet but he still is bad almost every evening. :(

    4. EBF, EPing, Supplementing?: EBF.

    5. Any questions this week?: I would actually like to supplement a bottle of formula at nighttime, but my boys hate the taste. (We've tried Similac, Gerber Gentle and Gerber Soy.) Any advice for getting them to take a bottle? Or else for getting them to drop a night feeding? <_< This every two hours x2 thing really sucks; I know they are just doing it for comfort and out of habit rather than hunger every waking. I am starting to become a truly miserable person towards my family because of the sleep deprivation.

Thanks! I do pump after most nursing sessions. I think I got myself worried because I want to be able to stop supplementing but they don't seem satisfied w that. I also need to be able to pump and leave feedings for them when I return to work because I work 12 hour shifts. I'm glad to hear its normal for my milk not to fully be in yet. Thanks again. I'll try to add more pumping sessions and get better w my water intake.

  • 1. How old are your LOs: 9 months

    2. Short term/ Long term goals: Long term- nurse/pump til 1 year, then hopefully cut down to 1-2 times a day without my supply drying up before the boys self-wean or until 18 months.

    3. Accomplishments / Struggles: the distractions! Sooo hard to tandem right now with all the things to see/touch/the brother. Accomplishments- still no formula at 9 months! They were on the small side at their checkup, but pedi says they are growing just fine so trying not to worry.

    4. EBF, EPing, Supplementing?: EBF.

    5. Any questions this week?: starting to think about my weaning to cows milk/freezer supply plan for when I stop pumping.

    6. GTKY: What is your favorite summer activity? Going to the lake! Excited to get back on the jet skis and tube this year!

    1. How old are your LOs: 5 months

    2. Short term/ Long term goals: 6 months/1 year

    3. Accomplishments / Struggles: H has had decent weight gain the last two weeks. Some of his feeds have gotten shorter, but the MOTN feed that used to be the shortest is now taking 30-40 minutes. (And then I have to pump, so I'm up for 2 hours in the middle of the night).

    4. EBF, EPing, Supplementing?:
    H - EBF
    E - EP

    6. GTKY: What is your favorite summer activity? Going to the farmers market. I can't wait for warm sunny days and walking over to our town's awesome market. Also, drinking outside. I really missed that last year.

@AshB62 I'm curious about the necklace, too. H usually grabs on to my tank top strap and pulls on it, which is a fun game, but probably not the best thing for my shirts.

  • @AshB62‌ @SV917‌ I LOVE my chew beads! They are wonderful and are dishwasher safe.  They have a few styles and very large color selection to choose from but they are a great length, the beads are soft silicone and are amazing for teething, and perfect size beads for tiny hands to hold on to, there is also knots between each bead so if it did break beads won't fly everywhere. Only downside is cost. Its $30-40 a necklace and $10-15 a bracelet. However they are very high quality and you pay for excellent materials. Here's a few pictures. I believe you can order them from their website. I got mine at a local baby shop.

  • 1. How old are your LOs:
    7 1/2 weeks

    2. Short term/ Long term goals:
ST - stop supplementing and build freezer stash
    LT - nurse 1 year

    3. Accomplishments / Struggles:
Between increased nursing, pumping, and supplementing O gained 9 oz in one week so there's improvement. I think we're still struggling a little bit with him re-learning his latch post-tongue clip. I need to see the LC again to do a weighed feeding. Second struggle is DH. He's trying to be nice and helpful but any time I leave the room or sleep and O cries he just gives him a bottle of formula. He doesn't seem to understand how that undermines my supply. Yes, I can replace that feed pumping but nursing first is probably better if I'm available.

    4. EBF, EPing, Supplementing?:
    A little of each.

    5. Any questions this week?:
I had wondered about the necklaces too, so thanks for the info! I would also love to see lactation food recipes :).

    6. GTKY:  What is your favorite summer activity?
Drinking a beer on a warm summer night, especially next to a lake and/or listening to live music.

  • 1. How old are your LOs:
    11 days old!

    2. Short term/ Long term goals:
Short term: Get milk supply really going and get off of supplementing/finger feeding
    Long term--One year

    3. Accomplishments / Struggles:
Accomplishments--we have been able to tandem feed a few times.
Struggles--I am still working to get milk to come in well enough for them both. We haven't had success latching without a nipple shield. I am just going to keep using it for a little while.

    4. EBF, EPing, Supplementing?:
I am feeding at the breast, pumping, and supplementing with a good friend's donor milk through finger feeding

    5. Any questions this week?:
How long did it take you ladies to establish a supply for both babies?
Did anyone use a nipple shield and then wean off of it?

    6. GTKY:  What is your favorite summer activity?
    Riding my bike!

@kdarden15‌ I used the nipple shield. It took 4 1/2 months, but we finally were able to stop using it. I would try to do weaning tricks I read online but it didn't help much. Then one weekend he refused to latch on with the shield and we've been going strong without it ever since. Hopefully it won't take your babies that long, but don't give up if they resist.

Thanks @TheDairyQueenx3‌ ! I'll check out those beads.
