We also use coconut oil, along with the J&J brand. The coconut oil has been much more helpful for diaper rash and for a random rash that DS gets on his little cheeks.

Can't find it now to quote but re: feeling suction on the breast pump. I called when I got mine with my first baby bc I was thinking this thing doesn't work it doesn't suction. I even called the company. They told me you can't tell until it's properly placed on your breast. Well then yes you can feel it when your nipple is being sucked in. Haha!

Okay so talk to me about gliders. Do I really need one, how much did you use yours, did you wish you had one? Our nursery is one a different floor from our master and so the baby will be in our room for at least a few months. I'm just thinking if i get in the habit or nursing in bed or on the couch I might not need one.

I love our glider! We nursed there a ton and I still use it to read to her and hold her before bedtime. We also lived with my ILs when Nola was born so I needed somewhere more private to nurse. I've gotten a ton of use out of ours, but I guess it's really a personal preference.

My lactation consultant told me to never nurse in the glider because baby would fall asleep before finishing. She said it was best that baby be alert while eating then you can rock baby to sleep after. DD never really liked being rocked and the yoga ball was much better for soothing her. We used the rocker for reading before bed and naps.

I was under the impression that growth scans aren't generally done routinely. They are indicated for when you are measuring big or small or have other factors that might make one necessary. I didn't have one with DS and, so far, have no need for one this PG either.

Every practice is different, but from my time around on TB, it seems more usual that people have MAYBE a dating u/s, an anatomy scan around week 20, and that's usually about it. Growth ultrasounds are usually done ONLY if there is a medical reason for it. For example, I have them monthly, but that's because they have to carefully monitor the baby's size so as to see if my high blood pressure causes any sudden changes that might mean the placenta no longer works and the baby stops growing or doesn't grow enough. After my next monthly scan, I switch to weekly, but again, it is used to determine any changes that would necessitate an earlier delivery, not just to see the potential size of the baby.

Don't be nervous! Our OB did a growth scan at 30 weeks and so far our LO looks perfect. They told me they will do another one at 36 weeks. I really think that it is just based on the different OB offices.

I'm going to have a growth scan in 2 weeks because baby is measuring big. My doctor hasn't mentioned any concerns about her size, and didn't even mention size until I asked, but then scheduled a scan. Are there issues or concerns I should be worried about if she is big?

I am by no means a medical expert, but I think the usual reason behind bigger babies is GD, so if you've already done that testing, the only potential concern is size at birth. Which, to my mind, isn't really a concern, as people birth big babies all the time, and considering the fact that the u/s is NOT a great indication of actual size (people frequently report the size estimates to be off after baby is actually born), I'm not entirely sure WHY they do it.

But like I said, I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination.

Like I said, every doctor's office is different, and everyone's insurance is different and covers different appointments and procedures differently, so I'm sure that is part of all of this as well.

We registered for the K'tan Breeze and an Ergo. After more research, I'm liking the Tula and Beco. Does any one have a preference? I would probably not get the ergo.

Aw, don't be nervous. I would think that if there was something they thought could be wrong that they would have let you know. Did they tell you what you were measuring at your appointment? If I were you, I'd call just to set your mind at ease until your next appointment.

I have heard that some doctors do schedule a routine 3rd timester growth scan, although they do tend to be the exception rather than the norm. Do you have more than one doctor in your practice? If so, maybe there is one that still schedules routine growth scans.

@elsa1688‌ I love my tula. I went back and forth between the beco soleil and the tula and ended up going with the tula because of the shoulder padding. It's so comfortable. At 28 weeks pregnant, I've been able to wear my 25 pound 19 month old on my back all around Disneyland with no discomfort at all!

I can't help you here, but I have the same question... I haven't purchased a glider yet and was wondering if I really need one since they are pretty expensive and the baby's bedroom is sort of small. I might just wait till after she's born and then see if I feel like I'm missing something or if I can go without it.

If baby is projected to be VERY large at birth by ultrasound measurements (I think above 11 lbs is the ACOG suggestions for a mother without GD, less for a mom with GD) then a c-section can be indicated due to increased risks to both mom and baby. Re: gliders -- I'm not a fan of the wooden/padded kind nor do we have room upstairs. If we buy one, it will be a contemporary glider/recliner for the living room. Much more useful: can comfort a kiddo, watch a movie, or use it as normal seating and it just looks like a piece of furniture. For now, though, we're holding off.

We have had a glider since C was born...and initially she HATED it. Cried anytime we tried to use it with her, unless she was nursing. Around 6 months she started to tolerate it, and now loves it. We still use it every night when we read to her before bed (though we don't rock her to sleep anymore). I'm actually a little nervous about what will happen when she moves upstairs and we start reading to her in bed instead of in the glider...

@satrimm My practice is having me come in for a growth scan at 32 weeks. @emotionlotion my pregnancy has also ben free of complications and my ob also told me that my a/s would be my last scan so this additional one comes as a surprise, but when I asked the tech about it she assured me it was no cause for concern - they just want to confirm LO continues developing on track like she has been thus far. Just enjoy the extra peek at baby and try not to worry.

I looooove my glider, but it probably isn't necessary. It's more for me than for DS, lol. Mine is very comfy and relaxing which is why I love it.

i love my glider as well. We went with a more modern looking one that looks like a regular chair. I'm not a fan of the wooden ones with the cushions. It didn't get alot of use when DD was small and sleeping in our room. Once she went into the crib, it's used multiple times a day. I nursed her in it, we read to her in, we rock her in etc.

Try used! We bought our Dutailier glider off of Craigslist for a tiny fraction of the retail price. The cushion covers are all removable, so I washed them and gave the wood bits a scrub down and now it's good to go!

edited to note: FTM, so I have no idea if it's useful or not

This is probably a really dumb question, but I was told I "need" special soap for removing breast milk residue off bottles, nipples, pump parts etc. Can't I just use our normal free&clear dish soap?

I used dish soap that was made for bottles and toys. I can't remember the brand now, but I'm pretty sure it was just a free and clear soap. I got it from babies r us but I'm sure they sell it other places, too!

@KrystaJ‌ DH usually travels every week, usually for one or two nights. Sometimes for an overseas trip he can be gone a week to ten days. I am due at the end of June, and based on our current info he is planning to try to avoid all travel in June. He is choosing to avoid international travel in May, although I don't think that's necessary (but that's what he's comfortable with). If something changes with the pregnancy he might stop sooner. He's planning to take two weeks off when LO is born, and then to avoid travel for another two weeks. Again, we will reevaluate that once LO is here and we have an idea of how things are going. We're very lucky DH is in a position that he can make these choices.

@PressLove‌ - I have/use the one that does not go over the belly. It just supports from below. I only wear it when I'm going to be out on my feet and walking for extended periods. It does help with the low back and hip pain I used to get without it. I got mine at Motherhood. I'd like to wear it more but it does get & sitting in it is very uncomfortable for me. (pinches my rolls)

@smhorak‌ I'm a FTM, but my cousin who pumped exclusively for a year with each of her LOs recommended the dish soap I've linked below. She said it was the only thing she could find to remove the film that breast milk left behind.

We used Seventh Generation free and clear dishsoap for all bottles/pump parts and it worked great. I think it may also depend on how hard/soft your water is, so you might want to try what you have and if it doesn't work, try something else. I also got one of these and washed everything in the dishwasher with free and clear dishwasher soap.

I'm a STM but I'm hoping to get some input from the third-timers and beyond, or anyone who knows a lot about BFing. also, this may not be the right place for this and it might be a really stupid question anyways. forgive me if either of those are the case.

DS climbs all over me and sometimes he will push off really hard on my boobs. also if he's sitting on my lap he will lean back on them and apply a lot of pressure with his off-the-growth-chart-since-birth giant tank head. I'm worried if that will affect my milk production, like maybe he's doing some sort of damage to the glands or something? is this even possible? not to mention it hurts like a bitch. I move him as fast as I can but it just got me thinking. I'm probably overthinking though.

How many crib sheets should I have? Do not ask me why this is an irrational worry of mine that I won't have enough! Also do pack and play's take the same size or are those another size? If your LO is sleeping in the pack and play higher level for first few months, do you use a sheet? I'm such a newb!

@MrsRahl‌ there are PNP sized sheets and mattress pads. I would use something on the mattress in case of accidents. Then you can just change the sheet. That's my plan.
