Gah! Wtf was the point of this whole season!
Dh and i basically just took turns shouting about how dumb it all was. Lets just pretend this never happened, and go back to watching more classic episodes...

Here is the defintion of crazy pregnancy hormones, woke up to pee at midnight, thought about the HIMYM finale for a minute, then cried for the next half hour about it until I fell back to sleep.

Yes! We suffered through an entire season of their wedding and them declaring their love and then they split them up 12 seconds later? Negative. I have Grey's Anatomy for that kind of nonsense.

I woke up at 3 this morning and my first thought was, "I cannot BELIEVE HIMYM did all those terrible things!!!"

And they said the mom had been gone 6 years... even if they got married in 2014, which we know they didn't, that means he was only married to her for about as long as the show lasted. It was like the mother didn't really matter and only produced those two kids for him to talk to the whole time.

I've decided it didn't happen. Robin and Barney are together. The mother is alive and well. Fred Weasley totally survived. The end.

@emotionlotion - so when they wrapped the story up, it shows Ted talking to his kids. He says something like "And that's how I met your mother," and the daughter says it sounds more like he was telling them how much he loved Aunt Robin. The kids reveal that the mom passed away six years prior and that they think he should date Aunt Robin if he wants to. So he goes to her apartment with the blue horn. So she was their "aunt" as in a close family friend, and the story he was telling was about their real mom. But those kids called a spade a spade and told him to go get Robin if he was so in love with her. Jerk kids.

You are correct. I don't know if they maybe filmed several endings, though? But they did at least film that one way back in the beginning.

I am pretty sure that the minute Ted said, "and then your mom got sick", my husband and I both yelled at the screen something to the effect of, "NOT FAIR!"

Why did it take Ted and Tracy 7 years to get married?

I've asked this for 9 seasons and will continue to ask this: What is SO awesome about Robin that she is irresistible to everyone? Like, seriously. The only one who didn't have the hots for her was Marshall. The show should have been called "Everybody Loves Robin".

I think I am more bummed about this ending than dexters ending. Although this does make a lot of sense and shows how well thought out the show was (the scenes with the kids in the finale were shot years ago and this was the ending then writers had in place from the beginning) it is not what I wanted! No! I liked the mother! I don't like Ted and robin together!! But it does make sense of a lot of things. Ugh.

How was the show replacing it? The one with Dawson? I haven't decided whether to watch it or not yet.

~~~~~~~~~~~~ From what I've googled it seems this was the ending all along which is why it's such garbage imo. They couldn't have known back then how attached everyone was going to get to robin and barney as a couple. They had amazing chemistry as did the actors playing them. By the time this ending hits you don't want him and Robin together but it was already scripted. Meh says I.

Yes, it sucks that they weren't willing to adapt to the audience! Why would they not?

They didn't show the actual moment of their first meeting until almost the very end.

I feel ripped off, like really..... come on!! I finally watched and that sucked balls. Very unhappy and I was a watcher from the very beginning. Brutal

I didn't watch the last episode because our new dvr is stupid. But now i am glad i didnt. What the fuck is wrong with the writers? That is the worst ending ever! That's worse than the end of lost. I think the writers of those two shows were competing for worst final season ever.

As much as I didn't really like the finale, I have to admit that it did kind of make sense. And all of the points listed in the link that @mschware posted are very valid. Which is why, I'm not going to hate the ending completely.
