Chores

What kind of chores do you have your 5 and/or 7 year old do?  Wanting to come up with a daily chore chart.  They are in school full-time so it would mostly be a chore or two a day after school.  TIA!

Clean their room and make their bed, setting the table or sweeping I ask periodically. I don' t call them chores because it associates it without drudgery. I generally say ' do x, and then you can come downstairs to play for a few more minutes, or watch a program, or have dessert' etc.

  • My 6yo will (every day it's something different): help with dishes, make her bed, set/clear the table, pick up toys(ish....it usually results in playing with toys lol), help with putting away laundry (she HATES this one). My 12yo does about the same plus cleaning bathrooms on occasion. Even the 2yo will go throw stuff away & help pick stuff up, wipe up a mess(ish)....Gotta start 'em young! Lol
  • When I was that age we sorted clothes on laundry day (my mom made cue cards with pictures cut out of catalogues to help us know what went in what pile), fold and put laundry away, did dishes... I don't know if we were cleaning bathrooms and dusting and vacuuming yet but that came by the time we were 10. Plus the usual set and clear the table, clean our rooms, etc.

  • my 6 year old makes her bed, cleans her room, puts her laundry away, and sometimes helps vacuum and clean the baseboards.  My 3 year old does all of the above except vacuum.
