Granny Panties

I am starting to get my bags ready for the hospital and need to get some granny panties for post-delivery. What is your favorite brand and how many sizes did you go up from your normal pre-pregnancy size?

I can't believe these are the things I think about everyday, lol!!!

  • Thanks @bullybutt‌ ! I am just wondering if I should get a pack if higher waisted ones in case I end up with a c-section. Decisions, decisions!!

If you're going to go ahead and be overprepared way early (this coming from someone who didn't have a hospital bag ready to go when I went into labor a week early), then yes, factor in higher waisted ones in case of a c-section.  I bought granny panties a couple weeks before DS was born just so I didn't mess up a pair of my preferred stuff if my water happened to break, but I didn't factor this in, and the waistband definitely hit right on my incision and was a PITA.  Alternatively, get super low riders and you should be ok.

Then again, you'll also get the awesome mesh panties from the hospital that you'll probably want to wear the whole time you're there anyway so you don't have to worry about it until the day you leave.
  • I got the Hanes kind that come in a multipack in a size up. My hospital mesh panties ran out too quickly and I was happy to have underwear I didn't mind ruining.

  • Dude I haven't even thought of this. Is this something I need to worry about?

  • Pre-pregnancy I used to wear boyshorts and an occasional thong. Holy hell, what was I thinking? I am practically all cotton panties now.  You would never think that I rock them, but boy do I!!!  They are cute and not something you'd see on your actual grandma wearing.

  • I lived in the mesh undies after I ran out of those I used my period panties. After all that was over I went out and bought new pretty, lacy, and racy undies in my pre pregnancy size.

  • I'm all for being organized and prepared, but don't you think it's a little early for this?
Not really @mana84‌ , I am high risk, pregnant with twins, and could go one bed rest at any time. Trying to get as much done now while I can so I don't have to worry about it when I am out if commission and give the task to someone else.
I guess I just don't see the point in trying to guess now what size you'll need. My butt has already increased by one size and who knows how much bigger it's going to get in 3 months  :-?

  • I bought Fruit of the Loom high waist cotton panties in two sizes up at the beginning of this pregnancy when my usual drawers started getting tight. They came in a pack of 10. They are hideous, but so awesome. Unfortunately, now they're starting to roll down under my belly, so its going to be time to switch to low rise. I plan to take those to the hospital. If they get stained and ruined, I won't be too sad to throw them away.

With my last pregnancy, I bought underwear I considered granny panties for after (Hanes I think) and my new ones eclipse those.

  • I wore the mesh panties home from the hospital and for weeks afterwards until they all fell apart, which was right around when I finally stopped bleeding.

  • Thanks all for your input! Much appreciated! So, let me ask this....are low rise comfortable after a c-section? Because that is what I would prefer to wear as I am still wearing my pre-pregnancy things

  • You should be fine. I think they pulled out the staples 2-3 days later and it was just a line of steri-strip after that.  I don't remember it ever being irritated by underoos or pants.   Don't think C/S..happy thoughts!

I wore low rise after my csection and they were perfectly comfortable. If you don't enjoy low rise now or find them uncomfortable I definitely wouldn't use them after a csection.

This. I just wore my typical cotton underwear. My staples came out after 2 days, and then it was just steri-strips. I remember using a washcloth folded and against my incision, to add some padding. My nurse recommended it, and i was never really uncomfortable. Maybe it helped?

  • I actually had more of a problem with my jeans than my underwear. I was still wearing maternity jeans PP and the seam where the elastic met the denim managed to hit me right where the incision scar was healing. I spent a lot if time in dresses after DS was born.
  • I get all my undies lately from Big Lots

  • I've been wearing granny panties since week 12 or so, so I will just be utilizing those.  I bought a size up.

  • Not gonna lie, I stole a pair of DH's boxer briefs and had to go buy myself a couple packs. Those things are the most comfortable underwear I've ever worn.

  • I asked for more mesh undies and they happily gave them to me. They lasted until I wasn't bleeding so heavily. They can be tossed and they are pretty much one size fits all. I'd go that route and someone can lovingly go out and get you some underwear once you know what you need.
  • MESH PANTIES ALL THE WAY!

Anyway, if you don't get very many of those from your hospital, I just bought regular old Fruit of the Loom at Target and in one size bigger.

    Agree.
Bring them as a backup but the only thing I wanted to put on were the mesh panties.

I think this is going to be my plan after giving it some more thought today and all of your input!! I vaguely remember wearing them in the hospital last time but i "think" I wore boy shorts home (vag delivery). Thanks ladies!! You have been a huge help!!

  • I also need to go out and grab a pack, last time I went up 2 sizes just to accommodate the super size pads they give you in the hosp. I also need to grab new PJ's since hehe I will be wearing them in public
  • I'm only 6.5 months and I had to go up a size. I just got Hanes cotton bikini style . I was really bummed about having to go up a size but the other ones I have are so uncomfortable the cotton ones that are a little bigger Are definitely better for right now.
  • I love my motherhood maternity briefs and bought enough to continue post-partum. Love them and they are so comfy.

Pack that bag girl. When I went to labor and delivery a few weeks ago, there were a few things I wish I had even though I was there for 5 hours. It was just so unexpected. My hospital isn't very close, so I'll be packing mine a few weeks behind you. I don't care if it sits for three months.
