What I believe is my first UO post: I'm going to drop a bomb and say that abortion is sickening. I sure hope that doesn't really qualify as an UO here. Also, quite a bit more "heavy" than any condom debate...interested to know what you all think of it as well.

Unpopular opinion to me, at least. I am all for women being able to choose for themselves. Don't believe in abortion? Don't get an abortion. But I don't want anyone telling other women (myself included) what to do with our bodies. I feel the same about "gay marriage". Don't believe in it? Don't marry someone of the same sex. But don't tell me who I can marry. (I realize you didn't say anything about gay marriage I'm just adding to my thought).

As usual, let's clarify that pro choice is not the same as pro abortion.

Based on your post history it actually looks like you've been on TB for a while. How do you not know how this is going to go?
Oh, I'm sure there are some who agree and many who don't. I'm also sure some will make a joke of this and use it for their "entertainment". I'm not afraid to hear what others think or how they may react. The ability to read responses or not is nice to have I like to discuss controversial topics. I think it's much more worth my time to discuss something like this than what I used to get in my Easter basket.
It was difficult for me to understand how people could support or have abortions prior to becoming pregnant, and that has grown exponentially since having my LO. Why can't adoption be considered in more instances? There's so many questions I'd like to ask those who support this...hard finding a place to start! When might you say life begins? What does it take for a baby (or whatever you may see it as) to suddenly be considered "alive"? I remember watching the little growth ticker on this app while pregnant an being amazed at what body systems were functioning and when and how my LO was growing. Of course a baby grows IN our body, but it's certainly not OUR body to choose what to do with it...to stop its growth is to stop its life. What I've noticed is that if the child is wanted, they're considered alive. If they are not wanted, they're a mass of cells that needs to be killed. I know I'm bouncing all over the place.

Haven't used this one in awhile
...but do you have any thoughts to contribute? I'm sorry if this steps on your toes, but you seem to be a Believer (at least in the past?) so I would hope you have a conviction with regard to this.

I'm all about liberties. However, it is not a woman's liberty to end a life within her. Sure, it's in your body, but the abortion takes place by entering your body to kill the body of another. I think I see your point in that if I don't like it, don't do it, but I can handle following that with things like tattoos or piercings. Not my best example I hope, but those only affect the person who wants them. Doesn't bother me if a person wants tattoos or piercings. However, abortion is such an injustice to a helpless human being I can't just turn a blind eye.

I think of it as a medical procedure.
...as I'm sure many people do. Have you researched what exactly happens? I would hope that would cause you to view it differently and for what it is.

After carrying a baby for 9 months, I think I'm more resolved than ever to believe that no woman should have to endure a pregnancy if she does not want to, nor should she have to carry a baby to term that will not survive if she feels she cannot psychologically deal with the loss. No matter how she came to be pregnant. It just isn't my place to judge anyone's choices, and neither is it yours. I'm sorry other people's decisions sicken you, but I can tell you squarely now: this is the wrong place to take this opinion. This isn't just unpopular, this is nuclear.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who thinks abortion is pleasant. But I still think it's every woman's right to have access to safe, legal abortions.
So is it just a necessary evil? What about it would you say is "unpleasant"? Are there any limits? With abortions being somewhat safe and ironically legal, what is to keep a woman from visiting a clinic several times a year because she uses it as a form of birth control? Why can't said woman use condoms rather than deal with the unpleasant nature of an abortion?
FEMA and the National Guard are here for the mudslide and I'm extremely thankful as our locals desperately needed help. However, Our house is in the flight path for the military helicopters. I'm glad LO sleeps through them but they wake me btwn 6-8 every morning, when they could fly a couple hundred yards to the west (like the other air traffic) and avoid all the houses.
Sorry, but this isn't sitting well with me. There are people who have lost everything (including lives and loved ones) in the mudslide and you are complaining because they wake you up at 7am (when many people are up and out for work anyway) bringing help to people that need it? I just can't even.
I have property in Oso, I have been to the site and yes I know what people have lost and are going through. I have taken many supplies to help the volunteers and will continue to do so as needed.
I think this is awful. So what if you lose a little bit of sleep? Some people lost their lives and family members. Get some damn earplugs.
sorry our lighthearted conversation wasn't interesting enough for you
Not that I'm bashing it, I just felt that I could toss in my opinion on something too and maybe we could all learn something. These UO threads are usually pretty intense from what I've seen of them, so I felt it was okay to go there.

Related: I'm adopted and pro-choice.
I truly did not previously view this board as such. I remember reading stories of losses and many things women had to endure to maintain their pregnancies. Making/growing a baby is such a delicate process I thought there was more appreciation for it. I may be in the minority, but I viewed my pregnancy as a necessary temporary discomfort to bring my LO into the world, and my LO was so incredibly worth it.

The bolded part made me snort. Do you honestly believe this is a plausible or frequent scenario?

It seems you are assuming that abortions are only done because the child is unwanted and therefore adoption would solve the issue. However there are probably hundreds of moms on TB would could come over and tell you a completely different side of the "story." The term "abortion" also covers a vast array of things. Are you talking about terminating a healthy pregnancy? Terminating any pregnancy? Delivering a baby who has no chance of survival outside the womb? For this to even BE a debate you need to be more clear on your stance.
Well, because I didn't give any disclaimers in my original post, I thought that would mean in no instance do I find it agreeable.
I don't know if this counts as an UO, because it might be popular, but I don't think abortion is an interesting topic to debate. It's something we already know everyone's opinions on. Whether you've talked about it on here or elsewhere, it's a topic thays been hashed and rehashed too many times to have someone say anything new or surprising.
I think it's good to discuss things rather than turn a blind eye because there's too much about it that is disagreeable or uncomfortable. I was not aware that everyone here has stated their opinion on the matter. I'm not in the "regular" group of ladies bc I read posts, ask questions occasionally, etc. when I'm nursing so I can't really devote a lot of attention to what goes on.
Thanks to those of you who have humored my opinion and made comments. No doubt there's more to say but my phone needs to be charged and LO is finished so I'll check back later on.
...just so no one thinks I've stopped responding for no reason!

I'm a birth mother and a pro-life, Bible thumping Christian who believes life begins at conception. I may not be pro-choice but I also believe that almost every woman who has had an abortion has not entered into that decision lightly. This board has been around now for nearly a year. I care for these women. I would never traipse in here with a judgmental chip on my shoulder not knowing if someone I really feel like I know now has been forced with that tough a decision and now I'm just ranting on about something that is probably a terrible memory for her. If you want to have a controversial discussion, head over to Parenting. They like to keep it crazy.
You have absolutely no right to question someone who has had an abortion with those types of judgments. If you want more people to consider other options besides abortion, I'd recommend a more loving and compassionate approach. I'm not sure if your beliefs arise from a religious background but the way you're wording this crap is NOT at all what the Bible teaches.
What I believe is my first UO post: I'm going to drop a bomb and say that abortion is sickening. I sure hope that doesn't really qualify as an UO here. Also, quite a bit more "heavy" than any condom debate...interested to know what you all think of it as well.

HAVING AN ABORTION DOES NOT MEAN SOMEONE VIEWS IT AS BIRTH CONTROL.

And might I add, we've created a support system here of women with very, very different backgrounds and beliefs. I for one don't want to jeopardize the camaraderie and support I get here by debating a topic that would force polarity and ill will. I can imagine if we debated hot button issues like this regularly, there'd be little left of our group. We're here for pregnancy and parenting advice and support, not angry talk radio debates. Sure, some debate is fun, but there's a reason we don't see these kinda of questions pop up after the early days of the board when we were all just feeling it out.

Whoa whoa whoa! Hold it right there sister! I am pro life with exceptions for extenuating circumstances. (Like what@ MrsBadKat said) but because I am against big government butting their nose into our private affairs, I think it is the mother's choice. (Did that make sense?)
You need to step down off your high horse. There are way too many reasons a woman may NEED an abortion she does not want. You just threw very painful memories at them with no regard to how it would make them feel. Step off the insensitive bus and join the real world.
Well, ladies! I think we have officially come full circle on pointless UO's so now it must be time to recap!
I like jeggings. I love Nutella. I love bacon. I love only creamy JIF peanut butter. I drive a compact car and love it. I think you can wear eyeglasses and still be fancy. I will rear face DD until she maxes out the seat. I like headbands on baby girls. I think it's pointless to put jeans on a baby but it's still super cute. I always write thank you cards. DD will be taught to write thank you cards.
Ladies, it is difficult for me to understand how anyone could like lima beans. I simply cannot support your decision to eat lima beans. Your lima bean consumption has an incredibly profound effect on MY life.
I think lima beans are sickening. I certainly hope no one disagrees with me.
I will look down at all of you lima bean lovers from my high horse when I return from changing baby boy's diaper...
We can no longer be friends.

Flipping. Love. Lima beans. It's been real, peanut!
Although, I do think there are certain life threatening situations in which a person might be forced with the tough decision to dislike lima beans.
*Giggles*
AND BUTTER BEANS ARE NOT LIMA BEANS! (My cousin calls them both limas and I then I get there and get all sad when it is butter beans...yes I need help)
Damn, I knew I missed something spicy while bathing Em. My J14 mamas and a few visitors have summed up my feelings so no need to elaborate.
My UO - I'm kinda happy that crap was posted here to being back all the names I recognize and miss!! Y'all come back - TB is way more fun than FB world!!! Lol
@sapatel1 I have never heard of it but after reading the description on Amazon I put it in my cart! We need a good thread with lots of teacher input for book recommendations!

Girl, you just need my grandma's recipe and your life will.be.forever changed. We lured you to the dark side with FB, the next step is Lima bean eating, then WORLD DOMINATION! (Cue evil laugh)
1. I'm not toughing the abortion debate, @bethughknee said of all.
2. I'm with @peanutmuse, lima beans are disgusting.
3.My stupid computer/internet keeps going out. They are doing some type of work outside with all the wire...it's bugging me, making my dog bark and keeping LO awake, therefore my UO- if you are doing utility work, please inform me ahead of time.

@mrsbadkat, you beat me to it. As sugar said, pro-choice doesn't mean pro-abortion.
The pro-choice side is a wide spectrum of opinions on when it is ok and when it isn't. Pro-life is cut and dry: no abortions ever. I think a lot of people get confused because of the way the pro-choice side has been erroneously stigmatized.

Well, I was going to write you off for the limas, but you redeemed yourself with the squash, so I shall let this pass THIS time.
I think it's incredibly narrow minded to be pro life. There are so very many exceptions, situations, and good reasons to terminate a pregnancy that is not "I'm a dumb ho who got knocked up for the third time in three months." To insinuate that that situation may be the primary reason for abortions is wrong. It is crucial that my body belongs to me and I am the only person who can decide what I do with my body and what happens within it. It's not your right, it's not the church's right, and it's not the government's right to force me to gestate a child to term.
