I really love to crochet, DIY/craft and I do yoga very regularly. I've kept up with crocheting throughout pregnancy (i have a couple of wedding shower gifts to finish in the next month) and the nursery and getting the house ready for the baby has been a lot of DIY projects for my husband and I.
My post-pregnancy goal is to get back up to my pre-pregnancy yoga schedule as soon as possible (which my loving husband is very supportive of).
My hobbies involve the water actually and its a good thing I deliver in May and have the whole summer to get back into surfing, outrigger racing, Stand Up paddling and a long shot but SCUBA diving. Last summer was just one long marathon or outrigger races that ended with me being pregnant. I paddled 18 miles in Kona HI and 22 miles from the shore out to Catalina Island just after I found out I was pregnant. I find a lot of my identity is tied to the ocean.
i'm sort of the opposide of @motoLyn. Where she seems happiest on/in/near water, I am happiest when I'm in the air, so I guess that makes me more of a bird as opposed to a fish or mermaid.
I'm an aerial performer and instructor, and being grounded since December has been so hard for me. I feel my hard-won upper body strength waning away with each week I'm not "flying:, and I cannot wait to get back into training and working with my students again.
I'm shooting to be back in the studio 4-6 weeks post-partum, but we'll see how it goes.
Peanut is in for some fun times with this high-flyin' mama!
I make stuff from stained glass. This is an extremely tough hobby to keep up when you have a little kid, unfortunately. I can pretty much only do it when he's asleep, and by then I'm usually too tired.
I'm a big scrapbooker! I've been doing it for 13 years. I'm actually really bummed that ill be missing my favorite convention this year since its going on two weeks before my due date, and it's a few hours away.
I paint and like to do DIY projects. During the summer I like to hike and camp. I'm so jealous of those that can scuba dive often. In Oregon there isn't much to see and it's always freaking freezing!
I've done none of the above for at least 7 of the last 8 to 9 months due to sheer exhaustion/throwing up/doctors orders. I'm looking forward to being medically released for Yoga again and for adding the others back in slowly.
My hubby and I love to fish, hunt and generally enjoy the North Dakota outdoors, Baby P. even got it's first fishing rod and tackle box at the baby shower! Winter activities are working on our house, watching movies and snow skiing when we make it out to Montana (not much for downhill skiing in flat ND)!
I do family history/genealogy. It's something I can do on the computer without making too many trips to genealogy libraries. It helps me to know more about where I come from and what my ancestors go through. It's like a big treasure hunt
I also do lots of cross stitching. I need to find an outdoor hobby though to set a good example of playing outside often.
I paint. Usually four foot by three foot canvases- in acrylics. I've been told that I'm pretty good and I can't seem to paint them fast enough- I have a waiting list that feels longer than Santa's list some days even though I can only finish one or two a year. Bed rest was especially hard because my painting is very physical and large scale and I haven't been allowed in my painting studio since sometime in January. I had to stop painting in the middle of finishing a canvas.
I will continue after baby is born, it's too much a part of my sense of self to allow it to be pushed aside by baby. And baby will paint too. Non toxic kid friendly acrylics are already in my stash from introducing painting to the other kids in my life.
I also have a few other less self-defining hobbies. I knit/crochet. I sing. I'm learning the violin and cello. You really have to make it a priority though- kids can and will consume any bits of spare time that you don't specifically mark out for yourself.

I really like to scrapbook and do crafty things, but unfortunately I don't have a lot of time for that anymore. Right now I work FT and then in the evenings/ on the weekends I am spending time with DD (who is too young for it), so it doesn't leave me a lot of free time.
Pretty much my only hobby right now is pinning things on Pinterest that I want to make but probably will never have time for. I do, however, have DD's 2nd birthday planned out (in August) and I'm already working on this LO's 1st birthday party ideas.. As well as planning out their adorable playroom for a house we are not building/buying for another few months- a year.
Photography and snowboarding have been my main hobbies for years. I have also picked up crocheting in the past 3 years. I really love to read and draw. In college I took some ceramics classes and really loved making pottery on the wheel. Kind of a hard hobby to keep up with if you don't have a wheel, a kiln, and glazing tools. Right now I mainly crochet, read, and my art consists of helping Shorty color in her coloring books.
I feel like it barely counts as a hobby compared to what some of you have going on, but I read with pretty much every spare scrap of time I have. Usually I have an audiobook and a couple print books going at the same time. I also used to run and want to get back into it, although it would be prudent to start by getting back into the habit of going for long walks. I also used to write, and would like to start again but haven't made the time.
I'm pretty crafty, I love to sew and quilt, scrapbook, knit, cross stitch, DIY projects from pinterest, etc. I also really enjoy cooking and baking and I'm also looking at recipes and cookbooks. I'm pretty much self-taught in everything so I spend time looking at tutorials/watching youtube video's. I've been able to keep up with a lot of that being pregnant, but I don't know how much I'll be able to do once LO arrives.
DH and I are really outdoors-y, we walk a lot and casually ride bikes. I used to be really active but have since developed severe knee issues so I can't do anything too strenuous unless I don't want to walk for days.
I have a horse and used to compete in eventing. It is really expensive so I haven't done much in the last few years with having kids and going to school. I still ride very regularly when I can.
I like to collect nail polish. I've slowed down quite a bit over the last couple years and only get a few shades a year now if they are really special or unique to my collection, but I have over 300 bottles of nail polish. I used to do my nails every night! It was my little ritual while I watched TV. Now I'm too tired for that so it's about twice a week. It doesn't take long, maybe 15 minutes of work and another 15 of waiting for everything to dry. There was an article in the NY Times about us polish peeps recently, although they got some stuff wrong: The Lure of Hard-to-Find Nail Polish Colors.

I love doing my nails too. I find it very relaxing. I don't have a huge polish collect, maybe 50 bottles, but I keep adding. I do mine whenever there's a chip. I feel my nails grow better and don't break as often with polish on them. I read my kindle in between coats and while waiting for the polish to drive.
Diy/design, crafts, gardening (not the best at it). I also enjoy reading (I can read several books a day), staying abreast of current events and geopolitics, and arguing over the internet (does that count as a hobby?) I also play PC games (don't have much time anymore between work and family). Finally I enjoy the import car scene. I love to learn more about each car I drive, what mods I can reasonably do, and then mod my cars. For instance, so looking forward to doing exhaust and headers on my car for an easy 40-60 hp gain.
I like to read. I like crafts, but don't get a lot of time to work on them, but they include rubber stamping, cake decorating, and I'm trying to learn some sewing/yarn crafts.
It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.
Right before I moved in with DH I was in our town's volunteer ambulance corps, which became a job when I moved and there's no volunteer ambulances near me. (That and I herniated a disk in my back from lifting a patient, so being an EMT has been out of the picture for awhile now) I have a second degree black belt in karate. Miss doing that too During nice weather DH and I love to hike, fish, camp, archery, pretty much any outdoor thing! But our main love is motorcycles. I literally grew up on a Harley with my dad. Instead of putting me in the car to put me to sleep I ride in the side car. He has a pic somewhere of me holding my baby doll passed out haha! Can't wait to get back on the bike and feel the wind again! DH was actually gonna propose after a nice bike ride to our favorite state park, but being pregnant kinda stopped that one! Haha

I don't think exhaust and headers give you an easy 40-60 hp gain.
Id say my hobbies would be hot yoga, painting, and dog rescue work.... If I had the time and money if get into horseback riding again. It was so relaxing to me
I'd call this girl more my therapist, shoulder to cry on, personal trainer, and comedian than a hobby. I've sadly had to list her for sale. Hoping I can talk the barn owner's daughter into just leasing her and showing her this summer, so when I'm ready to ride again, she's still here. Lord knows I'm gunna need my little slice of sanity with 2 kids.
I'm a trained Chef but work at the autoshop with DH so I'd say cooking is a hobby. We are in the process of restoring a '53 Pontiac Cheiftain the original flathead straight 8 motor is at the machinist being resurfaced. DH and I both love to camp/roadtrip/travel- last summer we did Mt Rushmore, Yellowstone via Beartooth Pass, Lake Tahoe and Yosemite in a 2 week stretch it was awesome.
I also love to read, I would enjoy belonging to a book club. I like to hear what other people took from the book. I am anticipating the warmer weather so I can go hike/bike/fish, all things I can do with a kid strapped to me. This will be my first summer out of school in a looong time, so I also haven't done much of the outdoor things I love.
Things I would love to do as hobbies but haven't yet; photography class, blogging/writing in general, guitar, long boarding... I honestly could go on forever. I don't know what I find so scary about breaking out of my shell (hence the forever late intro of myself) it is time I do something new
I haven't kept up with all of these but I do love to read, photography, cooking and baking, hiking in the summer, and tennis when we can find time to get on a court and play. I love travel planning, too. Up until getting pregnant, we've always had something planned so I really enjoyed researching different places and booking options, then doing photo reviews when we came back. Now I just do the research for family/friends.
@Shepa123 I'd love to learn how to play guitar, too. Doubt it will ever happen but I think about it!
ETA: The only crafty thing I'm into is needlework - cross-stitch and needlepoint, but it's been a long time. I bought a cross-stitch pattern and the supplies while we were on our honeymoon in Hawaii to commemorate our wedding, and all I've done so far was block out which squares our names should be stitched in so that they're centered. That was almost 5 years ago.
Wow, May 2014 mommies have awesome hobbies. I am impressed!
I haven't touched my watercolor paint projects in months...maybe even close to a year. Watercolor painting is definitely healing for me. I need to finish my last piece for the girls' room. I am not sure if I am good at watercolor painting or not. Mostly, I don't care because I just like how I feel when I am lost in the creative process.
I like to kayak (whitewater, I usually stick to the safety of a Class 3 river). I wish I had my roll down, so I could feel more comfortable on moving water. I have recently gotten into SUP, and am looking forward to more time on the water with a new board this summer. Hiking, yoga, trail running (heck, any running), camping, plant ID and birding, and definitely cross country skiing all make me feel more like myself.
yvanehtnioj said:I don't think exhaust and headers give you an easy 40-60 hp gain.
I guess it depends on how you define easy. In the last car I drove, it would have taken just about everything but a big turbo to get those sorts of gains (maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but it definitely was a lot more involved to get that sort of power). So two or three mods make the 40-60hp gain seem "easy." And, in my current case, the Lexus IS F only really needs exhaust and headers (I guess I should also include intake) to get 40-60 rwhp.
14-18ish rwhp with exhaust from baseline 20-25ish rwhp with exhaust + intake from baseline 40-60 rwhp with headers (exhaust and intake already installed)

I want this to be true for me soon! I moved to SoCal a couple of years ago and love the ocean more than anything else! This last summer I got on a boggie board. This summer I want to try SUP boarding!

Does drinking coffee count as a hobby? I'm going with yes. I like coffee, sleep, daydreaming, listening to music, crafty things, and thrift store shopping. It's not too exciting but it's all the same stuff I've enjoyed since well before becoming a mom. Except we have a record player now, so it's better even.

I love reading about everyone's hobbies! I love to cook and bake--at first I was strictly a baker, but DH likes to cook as well and it is something fun we do together. DH hunts and fishes, so we are always looking for fun new recipes for venison, pheasant, rabbit, grouse, bear, trout, etc, etc. We've discovered some amazing recipes, including a ton of Asian fusion inspired cooking. We also are semi-wine snobs and love to go tasting. (and pairing the wine with our funky menus!) My parents live in the Finger Lakes region of NY, so that's pretty much as good as it gets on the East Coast--yet another reason we like visiting them!
DH and I also got into trail running a couple years ago. It is so much more enjoyable to me than road running. I'll also do a couple road half marathons a year, but they are usually a struggle. Nothing beats the trails! We love to hike and camp as well.

Ah, good links! Impressive results from the Sikky setup. I'm by no means a car expert, it's just the original statement totally reminded me of back in the day when some dude would be like "IHE = now my Civic is helllllla fast" when in reality, the gains were like 4 hp to the wheels, 10 at the crank
I crochet, mainly hats. I have an Esty shop for it, but I have been so tired and busy lately that I have not been doing much. I have a lot of things I want to make for baby and I haven't even got that far on those. Other than that I love reading, mostly fantasy/sci-fi, and used to do a lot of writing, but do not have time to read like I used to and I know that will only get worse once LO arrives. I also used to do horseback riding and I really miss it. I would like to get back into it at some point, but lessons are expensive and not sure I will have a lot of time to go with LO anyways.
I love painting and running, though I'm not very good at either (more like slow jogging). I miss hot yoga. I'm really good at drinking beer and shoveling food into my mouth. I also love the sun, the water, long lazy days on our boat, my family, good books, country music, and making out with my husband... Most days. I guess I'm pretty boring but I enjoy it.
ETA I used to be really good at sleeping too. I doubt I'll ever get that one back.

Lol. Know the feeling. DH keeps asking me to go for a ride in his supra. Not only am I sure I'm not going to fit but has he seen how hard it is for me to get out of bed in the morning? How in hell does he expect me to get out of that thing.

But yeah, was surprised at the gain; on most cars, you might only see 20-30. Or I laugh when I hear that people put in $20k + into their civics for only small gains. Could have had a corvette, bro.
Although you claim you are not an expert, you seem to have a good grasp of car mechanics and modifications. How'd you get into it?
I had a lot of hobbies a few years ago, but I've pared them down significantly in the last few years. I'm a giant nerd; I really like pen and paper RPGs, board, card, and video games. I sew and do counted cross-stitch, and I like to watch TV.
