More caffeine than recommended, occasional wine based frozen drinks, sandwiches occasionally not heated, frozen yogurt... I'm sure there is more.
Wait, we're not supposed to have frozen yogurt, either?

    Not from the machines! Listeria.

(I have it like 4 times a week)

It's not on the list from my doctor, so I'm going to go ahead and disregard that one, as well. :-) Seriously, I would have never thought to avoid frozen yogurt or soft serve.

I eat what I want when I want it. Even raw cookie dough, I can't get enough of it. I didn't even know about deli meat as a "no no" until I saw it on TB and had to look it up. But my Dr. Says don't eat shark or fish with high levels if mercury. That's about all my no no list consists of, and alcohol.

No froyo?! Well, I'm doomed. Definitely never heard that one. Still not regretting the giant bowl of it I had last night...topped with gummy bears, sprinkles, cookie dough, and strawberries. Mmmm...

My OB discussed this with me at the first visit - no cooked or uncooked sushi, no unpasteurized cheeses, bacon, hot dogs, rare meat, deli meat, alcohol, sprouts, blue cheese dressing. I don't understand as all cheeses sold at regular grocery stores are pasteurized...I'm not buying cheese at specialty stores. If the sushi and deli meat are fresh and from reputable places, why isn't it ok. Does that also mean I cannot eat from salad bar in the hospital cafeteria? MH is adamant that I follow the rules, but every pg person I know has indulged in all of the above, I still haven't made a decision about eating any of it.

You poor thing. Also, if my husband tried to tell me what to eat I'd kick him in the balls.

I was thinking the same thing. FTS to my husband telling me what I will and will not do/follow/eat. I am a big girl who made it through 27 years of life without him making decisions for me. Yes, it's just as much his child too but he trusts me to make the right decisions of what I should and shouldn't be doing while pregnant.

With that said... The only things I avoid tabacco (never smoked anyways), drugs, drinking (not a big drinker anyways), and most seafood simply because I've tossed my cookies any time I eat anything but shrimp.

I love my unheated up deli meat, coney dogs, bacon, yogurt, salads, fruit, etc. Like MM said the last few outbreaks of Listeria have been from random things others than deli meat. Unless you're buying deli meat from a creep van parked on the street corner you're okay. Oh, I do avoid lunch meat off of sandwich trays that have been sitting out at room temp for who knows how long.

Im pretty careful avoiding those things even decaf drinks i try to switch to seltzer n juice or water instead since they all have some sort of caffeine anyway. Only a few months to avoid these things even though sometimes i really want certain foods but instead i just reach for giant cookies from the diner and chocolate!

Don't worry, MH doesn't TELL me what to eat, he just feels very strongly that I should follow the OB's instructions. So I do, in front of him. I was trying to illustrate how different some OB's are, mine being extremely conservative, and others telling them to avoid shark only. Please, if I chose to pick a fight with MH every time we disagree about anything, we'd have been divorced years ago.

I'd rather be safe than sorry in general. It doesn't seem worth the risk. I've read that medium rare steak is okay in my book from Mayo Clinic, but I've seen other places that say that's definitely one to avoid. That would be my hardest thing to give up. I have no caffeine, aspartame, lunch meat (was never a fan), sushi (I miss), soft cheese (I really miss). I never drank or smoke before I was pregnant.

I've only had cooked sushi, but that's mostly what I ate before getting pregnant anyways. My favorite is a spicy tuna, but I haven't had that.

I had a hot dog chopped in with macaroni and cheese (inspired by a thread a few weeks ago). I've had deli meat, but have heated it up every time. On Saturday, I had a small glass of Cherry Coke for the first time since before I got pregnant, because I had the worst migraine on the planet and my oh my did it taste delicious.

The only thing my OB told me to be wary of is anything raw and to get meat well done. She reminded me to always wash my fruits and vegetables (which I do anyways) and even said I could have Crystal Light (has aspartame) in moderation.

I see an OB team of four doctors, so I might see a different doc each appointment. It's nice because when I deliver, one if them will definitely be at the hospital. I really like this office, however nobody ever discussed diet with me at all. They always ask if I have questions, but no one has told me to avoid any foods. I have kept myself pretty well informed, but I assume some people are completely ignorant about a pregnancy diet. Seems a little careless of the doctors.

If you're avoiding froyo, the make sure you're avoiding anything else that comes out of a machine including all beverages at restaurants. All those machines will harbor bacteria if not cleaned properly & regularly. Not that I care, just saying it's not the froyo, it's the cleanliness of the machine.

This only applies to soft serve, with the machine. I used to work at TCBY, and there's no way to clean the hard bucket except to wipe of the plastic that's surrounding it. But I've never heard that you can't eat froyo that's very strange.

I was unaware bacon was bad. I don't eat it but it was never meantioned to me.

I would guess probably because of the nitrates in cured bacon. And I wouldn't be surprised if uncured bacon is a no-no like unpasteurized cheese.
But like all things, everything in moderation.

@RusalkaSings‌ isn't it funny how people in different countries do things so differently? I'm sure ladies in Japan eat raw fish and ladies in Europe drink their wine and eat unpasteurized cheese and salami/prosciutto etc. Wish the OBs of the world would confer and agree on what's good and bad. Was just talking to my mom this morning and she told me I used to kick the ashtray off her belly when she was pregnant. Was like WTF!?! Lol And grandma said she had the occasional scotch AND smoked! And none if us had any health issues. Crazy how that worked... Now where's that bottle of wine, plate if sushi and raw cookie dough I'm craving? ;) Probably make our kids stronger lol
@reverey, it's nuts. I agree with you on going with your OB's recommendations, really, if you've got somebody you trust and you feel good about their advice. I wish I weren't so inherently skeptical, but sometimes things seem feel so damn arbitrary (especially when you think about, as you said, how our mothers and grandmothers behaved when they were pregnant!)

Except for caffeine I'm not really missing anything on the no-no list.  I was drinking one or two cups of coffee a day and cut it out.  I love coffee but I'm not addicted.  And this way, I don't worry or feel bad when I do decide to have soda or go to star bucks (been 3 times since getting pregnant).  Never heard of the bacon one though...

I have Starbucks most days, and I haven't stopped eating cold cuts. Also didn't know about the bacon... Oopsies!

Also, I was never a huge beer fan, but I am craving it so much! I will occasionally take a sip of DH's, but I'm like way too worried what people would think if I had my own beer or wine.

I'm still drinking some Diet Coke and last week all I wanted to eat were ham sandwiches.

I was recommended a book if anyone is interested: Expecting Better by Emily Oster. She goes through all the studies behind why they tell you not to do/eat certain things during pregnancy. It helped me be less paranoid about certain foods and prioritize staying away from others.

I love to eat sushi I limit fish with high mercury. I still eat my steaks medium rare. Ive taken sips of my husbands wine. I read in France the women will choose a day every now and then to indulge in a glass of wine and cigarette. I think it's all about being reasonable. Like not drinking a bottle or a glass every day. Or raw meat ad your only substance.

I love all food, and I mean pretty much EVERYTHING soooooooooooooooo....yeah.

I'm still avoiding what my doc specifically told me to avoid (so basically just shark, which isn't really appealing to me, and unpasteurized cheese, which is very rare around here). I have coffee or tea once in a while, have had a few tuna sandwiches, a bit of deli meat, runny eggs...if I had to avoid everything that could have listeria and/or salmonella, I'd be eating crackers and drink water all day every day (slight exaggeration).

I haven't had sushi with raw fish yet, but I've had smoked salmon a few times. I'm from the Maritimes, you can't keep me away from smoked salmon!!

As for booze, I've only had sips two or three times of fancy craft beer that DH buys; it doesn't bother me that other pregnant women drink, it's just outside my comfort zone, and I have a slight aversion to the taste of alcohol. We'll see what the hot summer brings though heheh.
