Sleep wear, to naked or not to naked?

So I have always slept butt naked, for as long as I can remember. The few times I have had to wear something I end up getting all tangled in it :(

I am wondering how this will work once the babies get old enough to come climb into bed with us. How do you STM deal with it? I am hoping maybe I can just sleep with panties on :)

Re: Sleep wear, to naked or not to naked?

  • That's a really good question.  I always wear skivs to bed, but that's it.  I guess free-boobin' it makes nursing easy, for those who want to continue up until middle school!

  • We have a childproof handle on DS's door so he can't roam the house at night, he's only 2 though. We don't co sleep and I don't sleep naked, but if we did I would keep our bedroom door locked and change before letting LO into bed.

  • What have you tried to sleep in that you get tangled up in?

DH and I used to sleep naked more, but I can't handle that in the winter, plus we've got a kid now.  I tend to sleep in a fitted shirt or tank top and either short shorts or yoga pants.  Not much to get caught up in, but keeps me covered up.

T-shirts and bike shorts :) I just turn and toss so much I guess
  • DH and I are both naked sleepers. DS sleeps in his room and has since being a couple months old. During the couple of months he was in our room I slept in short shorts and a sports bra. Now we have a baby gate up to his room at night so I get dressed then remove the gate so he can have access to his room during the day but not happen into our room before we are clothed.

  • I can't stand to sleep naked! Maybe try the child proof door thing like PP suggested. That is our plan once DS figures out to turn the handle.

This, except her door is closed. Just like her momma, she can't sleep with it open.

Well, when they're toddlers climbing into your bed, I don't think it matters much if you're naked.  They're basically still babies at that age.  Once they get older, they should be taught to knock before they come in anyway, and you can always pull a cover over yourself and then ask for them to wait while you put something on.

    That is a good point!

I wouldn't free-boob it if you're still nursing a toddler.  The mere sight of boobs is like crack to them.  They can't leave them alone if they see them.

  • I can't brain this morning, but I have a couple of those cami/short things that are one piece and I can't think of the name of them.  One is from Gap and the other is from Younkers and they are super cozy.

  • I don't sleep naked but DH does/used to. I would think the bigger thing is how it impacts your response when baby (or toddler) is crying, screaming, yelling, etc. during the night. Could be for a feeding, could be for a poop diaper, could be your toddler threw up in bed, etc. your choices are run to their room naked or listen to their crying/screaming/whatever without knowing what is wrong while you have to get dressed.

Ultimately we couldn't take the lag time for him to find clothes and get dressed so he started sleeping in enough that he could get up and go straight to see what is up.

Top half:  I used to be a naked sleeper, but started wearing a sleep bra during my last pregnancy as my boobs got bigger/more tender. When DS1 was born, I transitioned to a cotton cross-over nursing bra - not enough support for daytime, but I needed something to hold the absorbent pads in place.  About two months into this pregnancy I started wearing the nursing bras again to hold the girls in place while I sleep.

Bottom half: it just feels unbalanced to wear something on top but nothing on the bottom, so I'm wearing light pajama pants. I was so overheated for the first few weeks after DS1 was born that I'm actively looking for some comfortable sleep shorts to sleep in this summer after DS2 comes along after the mesh panty/adult diaper stage is over.

  • Thanks all for the suggestions, will have to look at options :)
  • I'm flexible. I can sleep naked or not. It's a pretty seamless thing for me. Usually I just sleep in shorts and a baggy shirt, or if it's cold, fleece pants and a baggy shirt.

  • DH and I are naked sleepers. I can't stand wearing clothes to sleep. We don't cosleep and when DS moves into his new room with a toddler bed, we plan to use one of those doorknob covers (plus he can't reach the knob yet) because we don't want him wandering.

When he was a newborn, I wore a sleep nursing bra for a few months since I had leaking issues and needed breast pads. Of course underwear since I was still bleeding. When the kids are older and can come into our room, I'll deal with clothes then. Maybe a tank top and underwear. I can't stand the thought of pants or shorts.

  • Tank top & panties for me. The less fabric I have to get tanlged up in the better. I have never understood how people sleep in long gowns.

  • I have to sleep in slippery stuff - usually a tank or t shirt is ok on top, but I need satin on the bottom. It allows me to twist and turn and the covers slide right over the shorts.
  • I sleep in just a tank and underwear and DH sleeps in boxers. DD has never slept in our room and is not allowed in the bed without asking (we really like boundaries and so does she). It wouldn't be a big deal for DD to see me naked. She takes showers with me sometimes if we are in a hurry. If she gets in the bed while we are still in jammies DH just stays covered up or throws on a pair of pants.

  • I dread the postpartum period just for this reason. I used to sleep naked, now my kids are older so I wear a spaghetti strap nightgown/chemise type thing, it's all I can deal with. With crotch pads and boob pads postpartum I am so uncomfortable with all the clothing at night

  • We both still sleep naked and DD has seen us both. I think I'll worry about it more when she asks questions honestly. I'm wondering what we should wear to bed, too, when the time comes she runs into our room Sunday mornings!

  • The subject line for this post just really makes me want to go back to sleep.... naked.

  • Heck everyone likes to sleep naked or almost naked. DH and I sleep completely naked and my DDs like to sleep in diapers or their underwear. They never get out of their rooms, doors are always closed and they call for us if they need anything. We always put clothes on them for bed and they always wake up with no clothes. Oh well. Plus it's healthy to "air out"
  • I sleep in a tank top and panties, DH in boxers. After DS was born, it was a nursing tank. There's no way I could have slept topless while BFding him- there would have been puddles of milk everywhere!
The only time I put shorts/pants on if I get up in the middle of the night is if we have guests staying over.

    Mommy to R (8.23.11) and K (6.21.14).

  • I don't remember a time in my life when my mother wore more than panties to bed, and I shared a room with my parents until I was 7. I think the human body is just the human body, no need to complicate things with your kids.

I WISH I could sleep naked. DH does, but if I do, the cat gets under the covers and bites my nipples. Worst way to wake up.
Hahaha I'm sorry but the bite my nipple thing was hilarious. Cats are strange creatures.

I've slept in a sweater and panties so far but, once summer comes even if I hate all clothes, I'm going to need a padded bra because I always leak. When my kids are afraid, they go to each others rooms, not ours. So, I'm not really worried about not having panties on.
  • You are definitely going to want to wear undies PP until you're done bleeding. Also, I could not imagine BFing without coverage. If I slept naked while BFing, I would be sleeping on soaked sheets! Ew
Since I can't wear my regular jammies right now, I wear cami's that have a shelf bra and panties or old cheer shorts.

  • Yeah I am already having to sleep in a bra for the leaking *shakes fist* but I was kinda hoping to go back to being naked with my husband after all this pregnancy/breastfeeding nonsense was done :-S
  • I would always get cold when I went to DDs room at night when she woke. After that I started wearing pajamas. Grabbing a robe was just too much to think about, so I started going to bed prepared.

  • I have the PUPPP rash so no one is seeing me naked, but very loose t-shirts for bed now :(
