Who offers MaterniT21 test in Bay Area?

I'm in SF and looking for a MaterniT provider. UCSF uses Harmony and SF Perinatal used Verify. My insurance doesn't cover NIPT even though I'm 40+ and MaterniT offers patient assistance on billing. Obstetrix Medical group offers the test but that's all the way in San Jose. Are there any MaterniT clinics/Dr's in the city, or Easy Bay? Alternatively, is there a cheaper way to get Harmony ($810), or Verify ($500)? Thank you!

  • I'm sorry I can't be of any help with this, personally. I was thinking that maybe you could just ask your OB or even your primary care provider of where to get that specific test.

I am going through UCSF for my prenatal care, and they've been great with recommendations and answering questions. I'm sure they can point you in the right direction.

Unfortunately there's no "trick" to getting those tests for cheaper. For insurance purposes they are not considered necessary. Are you over 30 or 35? The reason I ask is because I know a lot of insurance companies will cover all or part of the cost of certain genetic testing programs because they're so recommended after that age.

If it's just genetic information you're concerned about, you can consider doing the standard prenatal screening, which looks for a few key markers and recommends other tests based on your results if they are needed. A lot of insurance companies will cover this testing, and if not, it's something like $200 for everything.

  • That's how it worked for me, my OB referred me to Quest Diagnostics which sent in my paperwork and blood. I would ask your insurance first though, mine wouldn't cover it even though I am high risk. I would then ask for costs because it really varies depending on the OB's possible discount.
