How's Monday treating everyone so far? Any plans/projects for the week?
What's your best sahm tip or piece of advice? Can be on any topic...couponing, relaxing, cooking, whatever you want to share that helps get you through the days.
DD1 woke up in a very... dramatic mood. A couple of hours ago I decided to blow up a balloon for her and she's been off the wall ever since. I'm glad her mood improved but she's driving me nuts.
This morning was rough, I was exhausted, but I've recovered & we just got back from the park!
Plan this week is to get the basement cleared out in prep for renovating it. There's a bunch of random stuff down there that either needs to be trashed, donated or sold.
Tip: I'm not sure I've been at this long enough to speak from much experience. I'm finding it's best to have some sort of weekly schedule to follow as far as house chores/cleaning. That way the house is pretty tidy & we don't end up with that type of thing to do on the weekends...resulting in more fun family time. *note that I do not have a mobile baby yet, so that may all go out the window when she's on the move?
Nice day here in Indy. Sunny and warm. We went to the park earlier and had a very dramatic lunch with the big guy. His veggie touched his fruit and because of that he kept saying they were broken now....
Finally both are napping. DS2 is napping on me because I just want to snuggle with him. I could be getting so much done. But this feels perfect right now.
I have no advice. I've been working 2 days a week and home with kiddos since DS1 was born and I still don't know if I'm doing anything right!
My biggest tip would be to have a support system. I have a mommy group I love. The second would be try to relax during naps. My days at home are so much more mentally taxing on me than my days at work....and I get a lunch break at work! Remember to talk care of yourself, it will help your mood immensely. The days I don't it affects the whole house.
Mondays have always been different in our family. For a long time, DH and I were off from work on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Now that it's just DH working, he decided to take Mondays and Tuesdays off, so Mondays are Saturdays to us. So, I enjoy Mondays.
This morning was a good one for us, E slept in a bit and then decided to nap for 45 minutes in her crib, which is a HUGE improvement! It's really nice out today (partly sunny, 60 degrees), and I figured we all needed some outside time, so we took our dog to the local dog park and let her run around, and then we walked the trails. It was so nice to get some fresh air!
As far as the advice goes, I think that trying to get out every day and have some adult time (even if it's with other moms!) is a big deal. For me, the first few months with E, the only time I got that was when I went to the breastfeeding support group. But I got to meet other moms and get help with breastfeeding, and now a lot of the babies are older and it's fun to see them interact.
Monday has been pretty good so far! We had a happy morning, and hit all our naps before anyone got too cranky. Then we went out for lunch with a friend and hot home for another nap! I was able to actually hang my diapers outside again to dry and sun bleach, so I'm very excited spring is here!
My tip: for us, it really helps if I can stay on top of laundry. Turns out this is one of the things that makes MH feel really cared for. So I try and always have a load going. Even if its a small one, I try and get one going everyday. Also, meal planning will be a life saver. I find if I have a plan, its a lot easier to get dinner going and get it on the table when MH gets home.
I was on Pinterest and saw a sensory bag I may make soon.
Large ziplock of shampoo filled w small dollar store toys. Duct taped shut. They can move the toys around and play w the bag.
Any other crafts or learning games y'all are doing?
I was thinking of getting some fingerpaints to test out. The weather has finally gotten better, so we cam do this outside. Also! When LO is older, I saw this cool thing where you take bubbles and add food coloring. Then, you blow them at a piece of paper and they make colorful circles! Fun!
The weather is incredible here in nc today so we spent most of the afternoon at the park.
This weeks goal is to deep clean and reorganize the last room in the house. I've done the whole house, one room per week since I started staying home....I really hope I get it done but I really don't want to do it. My motivation for this project is gone...
I'm so new at this I don't feel qualified to give a tip but the one thing I've found that keeps me sane is balancing time at home with time out. I struggle with anxiety but love just being at home. If I go more than a couple days in the house, the anxiety ramps up. I have to get out...the park, target, my moms, doesn't matter...just get out and see some new sights and talk to someone who talks back!
Hi ladies! I agree with pp's that said getting out helps. Happy spring has finally arrived and more outings will be outside! Feel as if I were hibernating part of the winter. This week is packing for my trip, a birthday party for a family member and a bridal shower for a friend. Have barely done any spring cleaning. Oops. Have a long list of what I want to do after my trip.
Really good Monday so far. DS1 had preschool this morning, and I was actually able to put DS2 down for a nap while he was gone, which meant I got a glorious hour to myself to get in a quick workout and a shower. This afternoon, I was actually able to get BOTH kids down for a nap at the same time! I feel like I won the lottery today. So far I've had 25 minutes of relaxation time, which I should probably be using to prep dinner instead but oh well.
My tip is to 1. Find mom friends to hang out with, and 2. Try to get out and do at least one thing a day. Even if that thing is going to Target, it makes the day go by so much faster.
We've been working on a "fine motor skills board" but it's not quite finished yet.. I bought a paper roll mount at Ikea to put on the back and I was going to paint a chalkboard on the back, as well. I think it's going to turn out pretty cool.
Our days aren't always consistant. Sometimes I'm super motivated and I complete lots of tasks.. Sometimes it's all I can do to make it to the end of the day. I think that's the norm for most of us, right?
We're doing good, just hanging out and going the usual.
@LokiLahve, re: mobile baby and chores. The only way I get anything done is to baby wear. But I usually get 1-2 chores done at a time. Ie: vacuum and sweep then that's it for the day. Next day get laundry and moping done. Etc.
Which I guess leads me to my tip: if you divide your chores up throughout the week you're less likely to be overwhelmed with one big cleaning day. Also trying to get out once a day and do something or see someone helps.

::Lurking:: That board is amazing! Did you use a plastic saw horse? How did you attach the plywood?
The mornings are always great, but he has a terrible time going down for his first nap. If he doesn't take it, he just cries and cries. We got out today so he slept in the car there and on the way home.
I would like to go through his clothes so I can consign them. I've been saying that for months!
My tips would also be to have a support system of people that can help or least talk to.
At lest once a week and sometimes two, I have a girlfriend come over and we workout together. While I'm on the treadmill she holds and plays with lo. I really look forward to those days!
Edit: spelling

Yes! It's a sawhorse.. It's screwed in from behind so you can't see the hardware.
@LEMSA I plan to try finger painting on the next rainy day!
Mix some food coloring into any white baby yogurt (like gerber banana) to make edible finger paints. I plan to put her in the bathtub with no water & put a few spoonfuls of different colors in and let her go to town. When she's done just hose her off & finish it up with a bath!
You can also put a few paint colors in a gallon ziplock bag & tape it to a table, then let lo push the paints around inside to mix them. No mess! I'm not sure if our li's would be into this yet, I used to do it at the dc with 2yo's.

Great idea with using yogurt for the finger paint. Would be impossible otherwise because LO always has his hands in his mouth. Thanks!
Pinterest strikes again! There are other edible paints you can make when they are older. Most recipes call for milk or a ton of sugar, so I'm sticking to baby yogurt for now.
@Mlc10811 cool! My aunt and uncle used to live on bells island...currituck. I grew up spending my summers at duck, kitty hawk, jockeys ridge, etc. I love the outer banks!
Yesterday was HARD since DS has not been sleeping more than 40 min at a time. Surprisingly he's letting DH get him back to sleep now! FX this keeps up.
Last week I didn't get my wrap made but I did make cloth wipes and and think the transition is done since we are out of our pampers wipes. A little more work folding them and presoaking them but no big deal. I did get my wrap trimmed and hemmed over the weekend with a little of super woman's (aka my moms) help. And I will be buying the dye tomorrow so my first attempt at dying should come sometime this week.
Unfortunately I didn't get to cook as much as I wanted to but DH cooked TWICE this past weekend!!! Amazing since all he can cool really is cereal. Steak rice and broccoli and rice and kielbasa. I fully expect a meal from him now at least once every other week.
My advice I is the same as @crazed178 get out of the house. Days are always easier and go faster when we go out and do something. Look for free activities in your city. Library readings, park days, Barnes and nobles children readings, discount zoo days.

And then did some errands.
I guess for a project I need to go in the garage and pool out extra baby blankets that a friend of mine has been asking me for. .
Today is opening game for Angels baseball and we're having a party I'm still undecided what's for food. ...
