I lost mine this morning (no worries I would NOT put a picture) and as a first time mom I'm not sure what to expect now? I've read books and they all say it's an early sign of labor. Just curious when labor started for you after you lost the plug?
I lost mine with my son around 32 weeks, they regenerate so it's not a big deal. I had him at 37+5. I'm almost 33 weeks and have lost a few big pieces of this one too.
@kitchencolors I haven't felt any different, I have had some lower back an menstrual like cramping but I'm trying to decide if that's stress induced because when I realized that I lost it, I had a major "oh shit I'm not ready moment"
Contractions will typically start out as "menstrual like cramping". If you're concerned, or your "cramps" get more intense, please call your Dr or L&D.
A girl in my yoga class lost hers on Tuesday. I saw her yesterday and she still hadn't gone into labor. She is 37 weeks. I'd say don't freak out just yet.

Maybe try the usual drinking lots of water and lying down for a bit to see if it eases up? If not, then give your doctor or L&D a call.
The nurse that leads my birthing class said you can actually lose your mucus plug multiple times during pregnancy and it grows back. I wouldn't really worry unless your at risk for pre term labor. But you can always call your doctor if you're worried!
STM here and I still have no idea what a mucous plug is. Also I have never heard anyone ever mention the mucous plug (not even my Ob) except for people on TB.

I don't remember losing mine at all. I had my 'bloody show' while I had an amniotic fluid leak and was in contractions but didn't really notice until they hooked me up to the monitor at the hospital. I wanted to labor at home for awhile with a doula, but once I saw blood leaking out for 30 minutes (turns out it was just amniotic fluid mixed with my bloody show) I got myself to the hospital.

It honestly was like a huge-ass booger when I wiped after using the bathroom. It's plugging your cervix. It's not uncommon to not know if you lost it or to not lose it until you're in labor.
I started contractions within 24 hrs of losing mine and water broke shortly after that. However, I was already 37 weeks at the time. Though from what I've read, losing your plug does not mean you'll go into labor any time soon.

I have been losing mine for months...I did last time, as well. The whole thing came out the night before I had Miles. It was huge and tinged in blood. Good times.
Lost my mucus plug in the morning and gave birth the next day! When I called the nurse hotline she told me it could be days or weeks until baby comes. Well, the baby had other plans:) Good luck!

I never noticed that I lost it but I do remember that my Dr told me that they regenerate if you lose it (or pieces of it) before baby is ready so losing it is not an indicator of impending labor.

This. With DS once the bloody show happened I had him two days later. With DD it was the same day I had her. I've had the cramping and discharge this time and I'm dialted to one at 34 weeks.
I lost mine when I first went into labor with my first . I was already having contraction about 5 mins apart at about 2:30am I had her at 8am. I didn't know what it was and it really freaked me out! At least this time I know and am prepared

Google it
At your own risk...
Yeah, this. Although I could look it up in my pregnancy book. The point of my post was more to say that loosing your mucous plug can't be that important or you'd think my Ob would have mentioned it at some point in the last 2 pregnancies.

I'm a FTM, but only one friend of mine lost her mucous plug and the others had no idea what happened to their's. The one that lost it said she didn't go into labor for another two weeks.
I lost mine, but never went into labor. Had a c-section for other reasons. I have heard you can lose it early and it can regrow, but I don't know if this is true or not. I think it is just what I heard on TB so I may be perpetuating an OWT.

I had a bloody show I think, but don't remember losing my mucous plug. Maybe it came out when my water broke during labor??? Like others have said, it can grow back, so try not to worry!
Re: STM's how long after you lost mucous plug, did labor start?
That said, my OB specifically had that on the list of reasons NOT to call them because it doesn't really mean anything with regards to labor.
