  • @KrystaJ‌ we are taking them in downtown ballard and possibly golden gardens. We wanted an urban feel and more like engagement photos where I happen to be pregnant than "maternity" photos. Our photographer says we can do some with an umbrella and then go in a coffee shop. Which I'm ok with. I guess we will just be getting family photos in summer. I'm really hoping we have sun breaks like yesterday.

The real question: striped dress and rain boots or flats, jeans and sweater?

  • @emilyh107 I am taking them twice a day, 65mg each, one right when I wake up, and one mid-afternoon. I might just be odd, but I actually found that taking them on an empty stomach with a glass of orange juice and then a ton of water helped with the constipation and nausea. For me, taking them with food was worse.

I also had to build up to the 65mg twice a day-- I started with 20mg twice a day, then 45, and now 65.

Hope you find a method that works!

  • I feel like I'm going through menopause or something. I keep getting hot flushes where my cheeks get hot and I break out in a sweat and get a little dizzy. EFF you hormones!

  • Guys. I have anger. Background: my MIL has a history of making really self-serving choices and sometimes giving gifts that are hurtful. Like the Christmas I had gained weight, she bought me tons of workout clothes. In a too-small size. Fast forward to us finding out we were pregnant: she began trying to get us to plan a maternity shoot. We said we didn't like or want those photos. She did. For herself. We made it clear that we didn't. I thought this was dropped. 2 weeks ago: she tells me that she's buying us the car seat for our shower, which is tomorrow. I was thrilled and super appreciative. A very practical gift. We talked about the one is chosen and she assured me that she'd pick it up. Then tonight: my BIL calls and asks, "Do you know what mom got you guys? You're not going to like it." She didn't buy the car seat. She bought us a maternity photo session instead. Now I have to open that tomorrow and not show my feelings, which are frustration and anger that she would lie to me then plan to publicly give me this, the one gift we can't return in order to get something we actually need. The one she wanted for herself. If she'd never told me anything, it would be fine. I wouldn't have had any expectations. Now I'm just annoyed and feel manipulated and want to cry.

  • @wtfisup‌ I feel your pain. my MIL would do something like that. I think contacting whoever the photographer is and saying you would rather have newborn/family pics is a great solution that hopefully they can accommodate. I would be giving my MIL a piece of my mind though... and if you don't feel right about doing it then I would make damn sure at least DH said something to her about how inappropriate that is for her to do.
  • @wtfisup‌ I hope you enjoy your shower don't let it get you down!
  • My daycare provider, whom I love, spent tonight going through her sons' old clothes and is giving me a giant bin that has the potential to take us from newborn through 18 months without needing anything!!  Going down to one salary when Charlie is born, this takes a huge load off my mind!  Hopefully he'll be in the right sizes at the right time, but we chose based on C's stats so hopefully I have another butterball baby :).

Midwife, makes me think of colonial Williamsburg. Or somewhere else in time...a long, long time ago. Why do people choose midwives over Nurse Practioners or Doctors? How does one become a midwife? Or a doula? I'm probably going to google it all now... But it's just been something on my mind. I don't see an issue with it all. I am curious. Also, I am very random.

I ate my weight in chocolate today after my glucose test. I feel so ashamed.

    Edit: words are hard.

We chose to use a CNM (certified nursing midwife) because we wanted a less medical approach UNLESS intervention was needed. This allows us to birth how we want in a hospital. Their approach includes all the same screenings and scans, but a more mother-centric approach than I would have gotten from my OB.

  • @wtfisup‌, that's really cool. I appreciate you sharing that with me! Now, does the midwife work at the hospital/contract with them?
  • She and three others are part of a practice that has 4 midwives and 2 OBs. The entire practice is affiliated with this hospital, but they have privileges at a few others in town, just like a doc, and my insurance covers them the same. The OBs are for high-risk situations.

  • If you're curious, their FB page is "Columbus Midwife." They post photos and such.

There is a broad range of medical professionals where I live (seattle). We choose a midwife practice at our hospital because we liked their approach better. Also, all the midwives are CNM and offer a more hands on approach than most OB practices

  • @wtfisup‌, I just checked it out! Sounds like a great practice! I was hoping it was Columbus, Ohio. I'm from Cleveland but have friends in Columbus and can definitely recommend the practice. Thank you for sharing.

@elsa1688‌, good to know. I actually have friends who are both pediatricians in Seattle. I'm sure you had a lot of providers to choose from, it's such a big medical city. Thanks for sharing :)

  • @letsgobowlingx and that's why you're the bestest LB evah! You find me strange male strippers, now I have something to be hot about hahaha.

  • @lalala8 my midwives go straight to the 2 hour glucose test. It's like the three hour with the 12 hour fasting, but with one less blood draw (and one less hour) and way more reliable than the one hour. For me I'm glad they did it,it really wasn't that big of a deal :)

  • So the sun came out for our pictures, yay! But we stopped by my fiancé's business to take a few pictures and my MIL was there.

She is a (very talented) amateur photographer but she takes photos of nature, birds, sunsets, etc. Never pictures of people or mat. photos. Well she saw us taking photos and now is hurt we didn't ask her. We aren't that close and now she thinks I don't like her. Grr.

  • In the last 2.5 hours there have been 5 or more earthquakes within 5 miles of my parents house, where I'm currently staying. They can stop now!
  • It's Saturday yaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!  This has been such a long week.  So happy we finally got to the weekend so I can relax and do whatever I want!

  • sadly just meh.  Was it relaxing yes, but she really concentrated on my shoulders which are tight and less on the areas where I have acute pain.  And she talked too much.

Ugh. I hate when they talk. I feel obligated to respond!
  • I expected better from him @emilyh107‌
