I really have no idea when it comes to how much children usually weigh at certain ages which is making my hunt for DS's next car seat a difficult job. I'm pretty sure I'd like to buy either the Britax Marathon or Roundabout. He is pretty tall for a 7 m/o, and so I'm wondering if I should go with the Marathon since it accommodates a child 9 inches taller than the roundabout does, on the other hand I didn't realize that I wouldn't be able to use Keyfit30 for as long as I thought I'd be able to so I'm worried about spending the extra money for the Marathon if I'll just have to get a booster seat sooner than I though I would. Is that a valid concern, or am I way off?
I'm also wondering how using the convertible seat in a rear facing direction works ~ it sounds like the newest recommendations are to keep children rear facing for as long as possible. Does this mean until their feet hang off the edge too far?? Lol ~ I'm sooo clueless!

Hopefully this link will work....it has a lot of good info and links. If it doesn't let me know and I will C/P the page.
Also, the weight/height limit depends on your child. I know at 4 year old that still fits into his Roundabout, but he is in the lower percentiles for his age.
We have both the Marathon and the Roundabout, but only because we were given one and got the other one on clearance. Otherwise, we would have probably gone with just 1 Roundabout. I think you would be fine to go with the Roundabout and then switch to something like the Graco Nautilus or the Britax Frontier later. That is what we will do when DD outgrows her Roundabout.
The recommendation is to keep your DC rear-facing until the limit of your seat. The Roundabout limit is 33lbs and the Marathon is 35lbs. I believe the Evenflo rear-faces until 35lbs as well, so it is also a great option.
Forget that other link....here are all the links from that page if you want to do some research on your own.
