3rd Trimester

Exhausted!!

I am 26 weeks, and all of a sudden am totally exhausted all the time!  Up a flight of stairs?  Exhausted!  At work? Exhausted!  Bedtime?  Impossible to get comfortable!  Any good suggestions?  I know I am not technically third tri yet, but I'm close! :)

Re: Exhausted!!

  • Yep, that's about when the exhaustion started to creep back in :-)

First, you might just need to do less. Be conscious of how much activity you have planned for the day and try to plan in rest breaks.  Sit and put your feet up, lie down for a few minutes, or do whatever you can to take a little break.  I've found this makes a big difference in how I feel at night, too, because I'm not wearing myself out during the day.

I agree with taking a warm bath or shower in the evening to relax.  This helps a lot.

Ditto the pillows.  I use a regular body pillow (like what you can get at Walmart/Target/BB&B) instead of a pillow specifically designed for pregnancy, and it works great for me.  Still, some nights have trouble staying comfortable and I toss and turn a lot (which is hard when you're pregnant!).  If I've had a few rough nights, then I'll resort to taking Tylenol PM just to get a good night's sleep.  I try not to do this more than once or twice a week though.

  • Ditto what PP said about anemia. I was exhausted, my heart rate was slightly elevated and I constantly felt short of breath. I blew it off, thinking it was typical pregnancy, but turned out that my hemoglobin was 8 and I was super anemic. Two iron tabs twice a day have really helped.

Thanks ladies, I was at the OB this week and am not anemic.  Blood work etc all normal.  My biggest challenge I think is my kids.  I have three young children wo often don't sleep through the night... And as a teacher, I don't get too much time during the day to really get off my feet.  So the combo of those two plus having a really hard time getting comfrotable at night are kicking my butt!!

I don't know if this is an option for you, but I've basically started bringing a chair wherever I'm at and sitting down.  Standing is just WAY too hard these days.

In my 3rd trimester and exhaustion hit me fast and hard again. Feels like my 1st trimester all over again except the big baby bump! I am not anemic either, my glucose blood work was very normal. I am an active person by day working at a school, and excercise constantly (a city walker). And lots of domestic errands that my husband don't do...better off 'cause I get things done better and quicker. Things that relax me is hot showers at night, message my own feet and ankles, recline awhile in bed before sleep, and sleep propped up with stiff pillows to ease my body from a growing heavy belly. Oy vey! Pregnancy is taking my energy away.
  • I agree its like first tri all over again .. im sick of being pregnant im just exhausted and all my emotions make it worse like im tired from being so moody all the time lol
