FFFC

Re: FFFC

  • Loading the player...
  • My daughter went from formula to almond milk because of a dairy intolerance. If I'm remembering correctly the vitamin d & calcium were the same or even more than WCM, but it had less protein.
  • The thought of not breastfeeding anymore is incredibly depressing to me.
My plan is to stop pumping around 11 months, use my freezer stash and start weaning onto cow's milk.  I'll keep up morning and night nursing for a little while.

My FFFC is that as much as I have enjoyed nursing I'll be ready for it to end.  Mostly because I hate pumping more than I love nursing, I guess.  And I'm ready for DH to feel a little more equal/confident as far as soothing and feeding her.

I didn't even always hate pumping.  I'm just feeling overwhelmed at work and am ready to be done pumping.

There is nothing in cows milk that baby needs that can't be found in other foods. We may do rice or almond milk but we aren't cows. I realize that formula is cows milk. She's getting it now for the beginning stages because my boobs failed me.

Ok, so then what other foods are you going to use to gain the fat content in the milk... I'm just curioius... it's an honest question and my question wasn't a jab at your decision, I was curious about what you would use in place of the milk to get the required fat content.

I didn't take it as a jab :)  We'll do things like cheese, yogurt, avocado, nuts, etc.  We aren't against animal products, but cows milk just isn't a must.  SO has a lactose sensitivity so instead of giving it to her (or even buying lactose free milk) we'll just make sure to give her things that have calcium and fat in them.  Now, if she needs the extra calories for any reason, we'd go for almond or coconut milk.  We're aiming for a more plant-based diet but she won't be on a strict vegetarian or vegan diet.  And I know we can't avoid puffs.  Those things are like crack to her lol.

I'm glad you didn't take it as a jab :)

Thanks for the extra info!! Parker loves avacados.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought dairy wasn't the best source of calcium.

Awww I was joking about the avocado thing. I'm incredibly stressed about what to do instead of milk. :(

Okay, I know this isn't a peer review study or anything but is there no truth to this? Its about how your body uses calcium stores in your bones to digest dairy. *This is specific to milk, not cheese or yogurt https://saveourbones.com/osteoporosis-milk-myth/

  • My confession is that I'm in a shitty mood. It's taking every shred of my being not to flip out on my poor toddler who is in the midst of her independent stage. I know what she's going through is normal (and actually pretty mild), but I'm riding the edge of sanity today.

I am so glad it's Friday. I think I need a nice, fatty chai tea latte by myself with a new book tomorrow. :(

I don't know much about this site other than my endocrinologist told me to stay away from Vivian Goldsomething or other (who is the author of the " Save Your Bones " program) because she's trying to earn money with her program. I don't know much more about it.
Gotcha. I've just seen and heard about this a lot, not just from her, that was the first example I found. I just always thought it was strange we drink the milk of another mammal as adults, and am curious if it's really necessary like it's promoted to be.

  • DD didn't drink cow's milk till a few months ago (she's 2.5) because she hated it. She'd take a miniscule amount in her cereal but now she drinks it all the time. She wouldn't touch anything but breast milk or water before. Our pedi wasn't too concerned because she has always loved cheese, yogurt, avocados, and other foods so he said we were okay without supplements.

I am working on just listening to whatever she wants to tell me.
I want hem to have a LO so bad!
  • Thanks ladies. This is why I know she could benefit from this type of place. Y'all get it more than joe schmo off the street.

  • Thought of another one..

I haven't baby proofed the house except for TR outlets. I see people talking about baby proofing this and that and I feel like I'm behind or something. My LO crawls everywhere but I'm right behind her and if I'm sitting on the floor, she prefers to sit next to me anyways. Maybe when she starts being more independent I'll get more serious about it.

@Meimsx‌ Hugs to your friend. I feel so sad for her that she thinks it's not something she should allow herself to cry over. Infertility is incredibly hard and a huge emotional roller coaster.
This so much. My SIL is going through this. She was told a little over a year ago that she would never have biological children, and she beats herself up over still being sad about it. She thinks she should "be over it" by now. No, no, no! It is a serious loss and she should allow herself to grieve it as such.

I try so hard to be there for her, but it is hard for her because of DS, and she doesn't even know about the new one yet :(
