Finding out the gender

I am not sure about how your OB works, but at our OB we can't find out the gender until 20 weeks. We do however, have a few places that can do a gender determination at 15 weeks (of course you have to pay out of pocket).

What are you plans on gender determination? And what does your OB offer? Are you going to pay to find out early??

We are paying to find out early, because I am the most impatient person on the face of this planet. If it were up to DH, we would wait until the baby was born to find out hahaha.

We'll find out at the anatomy scan, which will likely be sometime between 18 and 20 weeks.

My doctor also won't do it until around 20 weeks. I made an appointment at an elective place for when I am 15w3d. I also ran it by my doctor to make sure she was ok with it.

I think my OB policy.is typically 18-20 wks but found out w DS at 16 wks last time (can't remember why it was early). I will wait until offered and not pay out.of pocket but can totally understand being impatient and wanting to know ASAP.

I'll be finding out through a chromosomal blood test. If that wasn't the case I'd wait until the 20 week scan. I'm not wasting MY money to find out a few weeks earlier. It's not like I need to find out quickly, before the sex of the baby changes.

We'll find out at the 20 week scan. I know a ton of people that pay to have it done early at places. I don't understand the point of that. It's very expensive and completely not necessary.

With DS, we found out at 20 weeks at our a/s. This time around we may find out earlier since we will have monthly scans with a perinatalogist. Just my $0.02, I know the difference between 15 and 20 weeks seems like a lot, but in the grand scheme of the pregnancy, it really isn't long...you will know what you a having for the bulk of the pregnancy and will have tons of time left to be excited and shop and prepare

Think about what fun baby items you could get with the money instead.

We only get two scans under our insurance: 8 week and 20 week.

With that being said, my OB will also do a gender scan at 16 weeks for $50 under our insurance. I haven't seen squish since 8 weeks and have anxiety so I can't pass up this opportunity to see him/her again. I don't feel like $50 is that bad since I would've spent that on a body pillow, except I have one already...so we are electing to do the gender scan at 16 weeks and see little squish.

They charge $45 at the place we are going to, which I also didn't think was tooooo bad either. Plus you get lots of pics, a cool video, and you get to find out the sex.

Last time around our Ultrasound tech told us that she was about 60% certain it was a boy at our 12 week NT scan. When we had our anatomy scan she said boy again but really it was not until about our ultrasound around 34 weeks that I could actually tell it was a boy.

I don't think I would pay to know the sex, I would be the type of person thinking of all the baby stuff I could have bought instead.

It depends, I'm going to wait and see when my doctor schedules my ultrasound. I should have an appointment at the beginning of May (since I have one at the beginning of April) and if he doesn't schedule one for May then we will go ahead and go to a place that does the ultrasounds at 16 weeks (I believe I'll be 16 weeks around the 15th of May). It's $50 for a video, lots of pictures, plus the ultrasound. We done this with DS #2 since I wasn't scheduled another ultrasound until week 26.

My OB does an u/s at every appointment so there's a good chance well find out at my next appointment in 3 1/2 weeks when I'm 16w5ds. And if not we'll find out at the official anatomy scan at 20w5ds.

With DS2 I think my anatomy scan was at 18.5 weeks and he wouldn't show. 4 weeks later my OB did another u/s and again he didn't really show but my OB said he thought he saw girl parts but said not to start buying pink yet. At that point there was no way I was going to wait another month thinking I was probably having a girl so we did an elective u/s and I'm so glad we did because immediately DS2 showed of that he was clearly a boy.

I just booked my 20wk anatomy scan for May 12th! It does seem like forever for that day to come, but I'm looking forward to it. It's the day after Mother's Day so it will be extra special!

Plus, DH and I will be pretty busy up until that point, so I'm sure it will fly by! We are moving in with my parents until we can find out next house, so we'll be going on showings a lot and cabin season is just weeks away, so we'll be at the cabin a lot to take our minds off of the wait!

We decided to go to an elective ultrasound place before the anatomy scan. They have a nice package where we can do "gender determination" and then come back later in the pregnancy for a 3D and 4D session we will get pictures and a video. We are going to go to the 1st one alone and invite our parents to the 3D/4D scan and we can stream it to my sister who is in the military. This will be the first grandchild for both of our parents so I think they will enjoy it.

I'm considering doing it because I'm impatient. It's only about $50. To me, that's not much money for the fun of knowing a bit early. I used to spend more than that at happy hour on any given friday lol.

We're going to find out at our 18 week anatomy scan. With this being my first, I always thought I'd be dying to know the second the pee stick turned positive, but I'm strangely patient. I think it's because I'm just so damn tired that the only thing I give a rats ass about is when I can sleep next.

I'm waiting for the anatomy scan. I want to find out the gender while actually looking at the baby, not in an envelope. Just our preference.

They also do 3D ultrasounds during 3rd tri for $150. I haven't done that though. My doctor does the 3D ultrasounds anyway since I'm on antiseizure meds to check baby for any problems my medicine may cause.

Up here I think sex determinations are around $175-$225 depending on the package. They also don't start until 25-30 weeks (all 3D scans)

That is crazy, and I thought California was expensive.

I live in West Virginia and my OB's office offers a gender scan for $50.

With DD we went to a local place that did gender scans, and 3d/4d scans and the gender one was only $50 as well.

We may do it early, we haven't decided yet. Our next appt. is at 15w4d and my OB said we could find out then if we wanted. I just have to see what DH wants to do.

We get an US at 12w and 20w and possibly a growth scan around 30w. We probably won't go anywhere for extras unless, for some odd reason, we couldn't get pictures to keep from any of our regular scans. So we'll wait to find out the sex at 20 weeks. Anything before that would seem a little sketchy to me....like I wouldn't truly believe it until it was verified at the 20w scan anyway.

I have no strong preference for finding out or not, so paying extra to find out earlier just wouldn't make sense for me. Our a/s is between 18-20 weeks, but I really just want to hear to heartbeat on the doppler to calm my nerves more than anything.

We'll find out the baby's sex between 18-19 weeks, at the a/s. With DS, the substitute tech couldn't tell the sex conclusively-- she offered to sneak us in a back door at another office a few days later. Since that is totally not our style, we did an elective u/s. Talking to one of the OBs in the practice, she had me come back in because it was the substitute tech's error. We are yet to decide if we'll do an elective 3d in the third tri. I feel like we should because we did for DS, but I'm not sold on spending all that money again.

I am all for seeing baby as much as you can. My mom had a miscarriage and a stillborn, so I'm really nervous about being pregnant in general. As far as me... I'm not doing anything extra, but I've already been seen 3 times and going in for a 4th appointment next week at 12w2d. I've already had 2 ultrasounds and one more next week... They haven't really talked much more about how often I'll be seen, but my 5th appointment is only 2 weeks after my next... I'm guessing I'll be seen a lot, so I'm hoping I'll get to see baby and find out the sex before 18-20 weeks. I have no idea when my OB office does the a/s but we'll see!

We will wait until the 20 week scan. I don't know what we will do if baby is not positioned correctly. They only do the one u/s unless you elect to do genetic testing earlier, so I have one shot to get the sex.

We're waiting until the anatomy scan at 19 weeks. We already have to pay so much out of pocket that it doesn't seem worth it to me. With ds we found out at 13 weeks. I used to work at my ob, so the u/s tech snuck me in for a free look. I'm bummed I won't know that early this time, but I think it would be rude of me to ask. But if she offers....!!!

This is me too. Found out the sex of DS at 19 weeks the first time around, this time I'm AMA and am having the panorama test done. I think I'll be having it done about 12 1/2 weeks, as my MW said it was more accurate after either 11 or 12. So a few more weeks and we should know.

We'll wait for our anatomy scan. Our OB said if the baby doesn't cooperate, they usually bring us back in a week or two later to take a quick look again (no charge).

I have no judgements against parents-to-be who elect to find out early. I'm going to be taking anywhere from 6-10 weeks on top of the 14 weeks of paid maternity leave I get, so I'd rather save our money to help us supplement our income during that time period. A coworker had an elective ultrasound to find out the baby's sex, it cost them about $200 (Indiana).
