Re: UO

  • I would agree that if a doctor is late for every single appointment, by 30+ minutes with no advance phone call, then after 5 or 6 appointments it's probably safe to conclude it's at least partly how they run the office. I would not fault someone being annoyed by that if it is a pattern. Or better said, unless you're in a really small market you can probably find an office you like where a 30 minute wait is not standard and expected.

FWIW my OB is a solo practitioner who delivers at two different hospitals, and in 10 appointments I still don't think I've waited more than 10 minutes. If I'm early the nurses start me early, then move me to the OB exam room when it's free. And he doesn't rush patients ... I know, I've been the one with all the questions more than once. I wouldn't say that's just dumb luck, I'd say that's a well-run office.

  • @Rocknroll64‌, but that's precisely my point, doctors aren't going to know that Jill has a million questions or needs something explained, or when they move on to the next room that Janet will have no questions. Why call and say can you come in 20 minutes later if they make up that time by Janet not having any questions.

I get why you'd want a call in any other circumstance or profession, I just don't think this is one where you should expect it.

I just think that if you're running behind every day and making your patients wait for their scheduled appointments by more than 30 minutes everyday something needs to change. I mean it's gotta be frustrating for the doctor too right? Being rushed and late for every appointment? That would suck.

I've been going to the same OB, same office, same staff for the last seven years. There are times (more often than not) I've waited at least 30 minutes beyond my scheduled appt time. I don't think it's an issue of mismanagement of time, I think shit happens.

For the sake of beating this argument to death, I'll just say, I understand your frustration.

UO: I don't get having a name picked out for LO and keeping it a "secret" from everyone until birth. Same goes for finding out the sex and not telling anyone.

Your child. Your choice. I just don't understand it.
  • My UO is completly work related - I hate when customers come in and expect the teller to fill out their withdrawal or deposit slip! There is a station in the middle of the lobby for this, don't waste my time and the time of all the people behind you in line just because you aren't prepared. Also, have your ID out and don't freak out at me when I ask you for it. Just because you come in 'all the time' does not mean I have memorized your first name, last name, and date of birth.

Also, stop baby talking to me. I may be pregnant, but I can still comprehend.

We kept our baby names secret because once you tell people, people feel the need to offer their opinions and we didn't feel like hearing them.

This. We made the mistake of revealing what our list was with DS. My mom still talks about how she thinks we should have picked our #2 name instead of what we picked. Too bad.

Oh that irritates me too! I always hate when I get stuck in line behind someone at the grocery store who just stands there while the cashier is ringing up all of their stuff, and then appears to be shocked when it's time to pay for it. Then I have to wait for them to fumble their wallet out, figure out how they're going pay, etc. And then they realize they have to pack it all up. I get to wait even more while my stuff gets backed up because they won't move themselves out of the lane between registers and cashiers hate putting things on the 2nd conveyor belt for some reason.

    Sometimes, I just hate people.

This time I'm not even telling the names we've definitely decided against.  Last time I told my sister I liked the name Phyllis but couldn't use it because I have a plant names Phyllis, and then until we found out it was a boy my sister called the baby Phyllis the Fetus.

I actually enjoyed hearing the suggestions from family last time, but then I'm the sort of person who usually listens politely to advice and then does whatever I was going to do anyway.  I know I wouldn't like opinions on names ahead of time, and I know my own tendency to change my mind all the time, so I keep the name to myself.  (We actually don't have a name yet though.  Not sure if the family believes me or thinks I'm just being coy, but we seriously don't have a name yet.)

I've been guilty of this because I have a toddler. When I get everything loaded on the belt, I have to pry the candy out of Shorty's hands, put it back, deal with the following temper tantrum, push the cart forward, tell Shorty to stop pushing all the buttons on the card reader, find my purse, tell Shorty to leave the buckle alone and sit down so she doesn't fall, ask the cashier how much it was again, find the right card, tell Shorty to sit down again... you get the picture. I always feel bad, but sometimes toddlers happen. I'll be a great customer when I have a toddler and a newborn!!

  • @fatbarbie0226‌ I'm so glad I'm not alone on this! I had a woman in line behind me get really rude and say don't worry I'll watch your kid as he was trying to climb out of the cart on to the belt. Sorry bitch but he's going to keep doing it. I am watching him and the quicker I get my shit on the belt the quicker I can move him forward and hand him my wallet where he won't be trying to climb anywhere.

@fatbarbie0226 That doesn't bother me as much when it's obvious the person has other things on their plate, or is legitimately having some kind of difficulty. It's when people just don't bother to pay attention, or behave like they've never been to the store before that bugs me.

On the other end of the spectrum, I hate when people rush you through the line when you're already moving quickly. I always have my wallet out and load up my groceries as they're bagged, but inevitably someone tries to run me over with their shopping cart if I take TWO SECONDS to drop my wallet back in my purse once the transaction is complete. Drives me bonkers, as I'm not meandering in the line in any way, yet someone is tailgating me with their shopping cart. I shop at a ridiculously busy grocery store however, so if think tensions are high for a lot of people when they get to checkout.

I agree with both. but biggest issue is that I can't stand when people socialize when clearly DD has had enough of the cart and the shopping experience, and I know its not always there fault but the people who have payment issues that hold up the line......

I cannot stand the people who take the liberty to "help" me unload my cart so that they can get done faster.

I have a system. I don't like my meat products near my produce and I like all my frozen foods together. I am very quick at unloading my cart. I just like to keep food categories together to make it easier when I have to unload bags in my kitchen.

This. I always unload my groceries onto the belt in groups, hoping that the check-out person will bag them as such. It really irritates me when the bagging person is this chatty teenager that is talking to the cashier the whole time and just pops everything into any random bag. I've done the sorting for you, just put my little groups in bags.

  • Spinning off from the John Mayer posts, I don't buy the empowerment shtick Katy Perry is selling. Her song lyrics say one thing but her actions and personality tell another story. I think she'd benefit from truly believing some of those empowering lyrics she was singing. And also, her live singing voice sucks.

THIS. Ugh, the fake feminism coming from this bitch is nauseating.

I worked for Publix in high school, and they train their cashiers and naggers according to this idea. Dry goods stay together, raw meats are separate from everything, etc. I don't get how grocery baggers still manage to do this. I actually aim for cashier lines where there is no bag boy or girl, because I prefer to bag it myself.

I try to do this too, and it never works out for me. Like I'll buy 5 Yoplait yogurts, and they will end up in 5 different bags. It's annoying when I'm unpacking. My grocery store hires mentally disabled adults to bag groceries, so I really hate to complain about it. But today, the woman who bagged my groceries tied all the bags in a knot at the top. Not only did it take her forever (the cashier stepped in and helped to bag some of it), but then I had to get scissors out to unpack them when I got home. Why hasn't anyone (like her boss) told her that's a bad idea?

For those of you who didn't watch the show, there was an ep where she couldn't reach orgasm and Charlotte had the nerve to tell her sex could still be good without an orgasm. Samantha wasn't having that!!!

  • UO: I don't get having a name picked out for LO and keeping it a "secret" from everyone until birth. Same goes for finding out the sex and not telling anyone. Your child. Your choice. I just don't understand it.

We have a name, but when people ask we just say "oh we have a few in mind". We just don't know how we're going to feel about the name when she gets here, so we don't want to have to do a lot of back tracking. We're 90% set on this name, but TBH it's nobody's business what I name my child and what's wrong with the element of surprise? Plus, we've had a few people say "oh, are you sure?" when we've mentioned other names. I think if the baby is here and you've named them, they're less inclined to say stuff like that.

I had the opposite issue with the sex though. We found out and most people wanted to know, so we told them. Then DH's aunt and uncle decided they didn't want to know. Sorry, but that's not your decision. It just made life really awkward for a while because we had to be really careful around them. In the end I accidentally on purpose let it slip. It's not their child, so why should I go out of my way to be secretive? We're excited we're having a girl. Keeping it a secret doesn't change the outcome.

  • * OB appts: I agree with all of you about being ok with waiting.  But because I'm trying to save as much sick leave for the delivery/pediatrician appointments I always schedule the first appointment of the day. Therefore, I only occasionally have to wait a few minutes in the event the Dr gets stuck in traffic.  Over two pregnancies I think there has only been one time when the first appointment wasn't available which leads me to believe that I am the only person at my practice who has figured this out.  If people have an issue with waiting, find a way to get there at the crack of dawn and you're golden.

    * I agree that John Mayer is a douche.  However, I kind of liked him with Katy because I feel like she is pretty douchey herself.

    * I sort of hate when celebrities have big "coming out" anouncements.  While a part of me understands that when celebrities publicly "come out" it brings more awareness to the fact that there are gay people in this world and that perhaps it helps the younger generation feel more comfortable with who they are.  However, I feel like these public announcements make something that, to me, is not a big deal, a big deal.  I heard a story about Johnny Galecki (Roseanne / Big Bang Theory) and how there were all these rumors about him being gay and how reporters would always ask him about it and he would never comment.  Then at one point people finally realized that he wasn't gay and he was asked why he never commented on it and his response was that he didn't feel like there was a need to defend himself against rumors that weren't offensive.  I guess I wish that there wasn't a societal need to bucketize people.

  • I know I'm late but whatevs bitches.

@doctors running late - Bevo outlined this one pretty masterfully, but I'll add that I agree. It doesn't bother me one bit to have to wait. I genuinely appreciate the fact that my doctor will spend as much time as needed with me answering my questions...I'm sure she's doing the same for her other patients. Plus it means everything to me that when I've had my two "emergencies" this pregnancy, they had me come in immediately and meet with my OB and MFM. I'm sure that pushed back the schedule for the woman sitting next to me in the waiting room. Sorry, not sorry. I'd expect they'd do the same for her if she had an emergency and I'd gladly wait. Some things are more important than punctuality.

@Katy Perry & John Mayer - I don't really care too much about celebs private lives and who they are screwing, but I actually have an opinion on these two. They were on Good Morning America not that long ago and he treated her like crap...on national television! I couldn't believe how he was talking to her. I'm glad they broke up. Anyone deserves better.

@nanny care for SAHMs - my "friend" has three kids and is a SAHM. Her oldest is in school all day, and the youngest two are with the nanny M, W, F, and at the neighbors in the mornings on Tues, Thurs. So...essentially she's home alone with the kids 1/2 days twice a week. She pays a cleaning service, and lawn care service. Yes...I judge her, especially when she fake complains about missing her old part time job. I majorly judge her when she walks in with a new Kate Spade every week and brand new Pottery Barn furnishings all over. Judging!!!! Sue me.

  • @kitchencolors‌ - that's still at least 4-5 hours, five days a week that she has completely kid free. I just don't want to hear her whine about not being able to go back to her part time job because she's home with the kids.

Maybe I don't understand how difficult it is yet, but I also don't really understand the need for some sort of childcare 5 days a week. I'm fine with being a judgy bitch then.

Yes! This is a huge part of the reason I can't behind the way she sells herself. The fact that she puts up with it and repeatedly goes back for more suggests that there are some self-esteem/self-worth issues she needs to work out. It wouldn't surprise me if she put up with a lot of crap from Russell Brand too. He doesn't strike me as being the most respectful of women either.

The other part of it is how willing she is to throw people like Miley Cyrus under the bus publicly for using sex and their bodies to sell their music and acts like she's too classy for that. Right, because Katy "I Kissed a Girl and I Liked It" Perry has never, ever done such a thing. Either own it or don't do it anymore if you're uncomfortable with it. Don't shame other women for doing it better than you. So again, I think there are some things she needs to sort out within herself before she tries to sell the whole "Roar" thing to other girls and women.
