I don't get stay at mom's with nannies and daycare. Im not talking about right after you give birth but once you are healed and functional. I have a friend who doesn't work has two boys in full time daycare and a third in kindergarten they get picked up from school by nanny who has them most of the afternoon and they spend Friday nights thru Saturday with their grandparents. I don't understand why someone would have kids and then.be lucky enough to afford staying home but then want to spend zero time with them

I totally get this. I know of a couple who had twins by a surrogate quite late in life and they have day and night nannies. She doesn't work, but now she actually has the children she doesn't really look after them.
I also work with a lady who has an au pair, but when it's the school holidays, she sends her kids away to camp and takes the week off herself. I probably don't blame her though.

I'm sick of talking about the weather (with people IRL). It seems that's all some people can focus on and I just don't care anymore. It's still winter? Yup. Spring will come when it comes. You can't control it, stop wasting energy on it.
I'm a SAHM and wish I could afford a nanny. Or a maid. We have talked about sending DS to DC part time for social interaction. It's overwhelming trying to do it all on my own sometimes.
Congrats to my GP Sister from another mister Bruinsbabe!!
I hate bumper stickers on cars. The ones that bother me the most are the ones that include you child's name. That is just asking for trouble for strangers to know your kid's name. Also the ones for runners that say 26.2 or 13.1, pretty sure nobody on the road cares how long you can run for. And I'll be damned if a company is getting free advertisement on my car whether it be a dealership or some brand name. Everyone in Florida either has a Salt Life or Browning deer logo on their car.

I think part time daycare, camp school etc is great for social interaction, you are so not the mom type I am speaking about

I agree with most of this but I am guilty of having a 26.2 on my car. I'm really freakin' proud that I can do that. It was something I never thought I'd be able to do. It doesn't bother me if people don't care about it or if they find it annoying.

Do you have three young children? If not, then you really can't possibly know how tough it can be.
Also, my son loves his little school. He gets so much out of it. His developmental skills since starting his school have shot up dramatically. He loves the other kids. He loves the activities they have. Maybe she puts them in there not because she is trying to "not spend time with them" but because it is good for them and they enjoy it. And maybe she takes them to grandparents because the grandparents like spending time with them. Maybe they are older and don't have that much time left...
And do you really know if they spend every day, all day in daycare? Or every Friday and Saturday with their grandparents? Or maybe she does put them in daycare and volunteers at the daycare on a regular basis...
My point is, that you don't know the reasons other people make the decisions they make. It really isn't your place to judge without knowing ALL of the circumstances. And even if you *think* you know, you don't.
I guess my UO is that I don't get people who judge other people's parenting choices unless they are ones that involve abuse/neglect or affect others.

If you are going to ask for the advice of internet strangers over your doctor, at least go to a reliable website to do it. In general, I don't think you should do this anyway...if what your doctor seems off, then ask questions and inquire further. If it still seems off, maybe you need to look for a different health care provider.
Example: Yesterday, someone posted on 3 different vbac boards I frequent: "My blood pressure is high and I have trace protein in my urine. My doctor is concerned that I might be headed towards preeclampsia. I asked him what I could do to prevent that. He told me there wasn't anything. I know that can't possibly be true. Tell me what to do." The responses were a bunch of OWT and misperceptions about Brewers diet, supplements, exercise, etc. None of them were true. In fact, some of the advice was downright bad and could actually exacerbate her high blood pressure. In actuality, what her doctor told her was correct. If she was wanting to take the advice of internet strangers over her doctor, at least go to a preeclampsia website where people have actually had pre-e and know something about it!

My UO: I don't mind having sex and not having an orgasm. I mean, it's great when I do, but I think sex is enjoyable even when I don't orgasm at the end, so it's not an "every time" expectation for me. Maybe it's because since I'm pregnant and tired sex seems to take more effort, so by the time he's done, I am kind of happy to stop. But that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it, or that it was bad sex.
I feel like this makes my husband sound terrible in bed, but I swear, this is more a me thing than a lack of skill on his side. I like the feeling of sex/having sex, to me an orgasm is a really great bonus.
My UO is that I wish my toddler would watch one tv show a day so that I can have a breathing break rather then play all day long (I'm talking wake up to bed time)
I'm not even going to touch the mommy wars, so my UO, I think a person covered in tattoos can look beautiful, if done right. Example of beautiful and trashy:

I learned this lesson the hard way last year. I knew of a family (friend of a friend) that had their infant daughter in full time daycare while the dad worked out of the home and the mom did not work at all. I totally side eyed their choices and wondered why they even had a kid at all until I later learned that the mother had severe PPD and the husband felt she was a danger to their baby. I felt so so bad when I found out and truly realized you never know what is really going on behind closed doors. It turns out full time daycare was the best place for their daughter to be while the mother took care of herself.
my UO (and I hate to get all political so I apologize in advance): I don't understand the hype about the Hobby Lobby birth control thing; Hobby Lobby is complaining that the ACA is forcing them to provide a health plan that covers contraception including IUD's and the morning after pill, which they have moral objections too. Yet they are in turn forcing their moral objections onto all their employees by wanting to not cover those services. Maybe I'm over-simplifying here but I don't get that logic. Since when does a company have the right to tell you what medical services should and shouldn't be covered?
side note: I won't pretend I'm as well versed in politics as I could be. I am totally open to constructive criticism of my logic and will admit now that I haven't done a ton of research on this matter.
@cbrust - I actually wonder if Hobby Lobby just doesn't want to provide health insurance. I don't know this because I am not well-versed on Hobby Lobby, but I just wonder. Could be wrong. My DH, when he was in his residency, technically was employed by a "Catholic charity" (even though his residency program was UT- not sure how that worked), and even the "Catholic church" paid for the insurance that paid for my birth control. I think I had to show it was for a medical reason, but the "Church provided" insurance covered it. Edit: Although, I think there may be doctrine in the Catholic Church that BC for medical reasons is okay...so I may have failed in my attempt to draw a parallel.

ACA forces Hobby Lobby to go against their morals by supplying insurance that covers BC. ACA does not force you to work for Hobby Lobby. Nobody does. You are working at will and if you don't like the benefits offered by said job you are free to find work elsewhere. That's the big deal is that the "forcing" isn't a two way street where as if HL was allowed to choose their benefits package then the employees could choose if that was something they were willing to deal with.
Again, not my personal feelings. I actually know nothing about the actual logistics of it all and have not read about this but I imagine this is HL's point of view.

I do see that point of view, technically speaking. I just get annoyed when people use the "no one is forcing you to work there" argument because that's total bull shit it my mind. I worked for starbucks for 3 years to get health insurance, you (general you, not you, Anna) think I actually wanted to work there? I can't imagine too many people really wanting to work for Hobby Lobby as their main career, I think most people are in it for the paycheck.
I think a lot of charities are shams. I don't think ALL charities are but many charities spend only a small fraction of their revenue tackling the problem they say they will.
They believe that providing coverage for certain types of birth control is against their religious beliefs. I am pretty sure that non-profit religious groups are exempt from providing this coverage, for-profits are currently not. That's the basics of the argument before the court. HL isn't telling their employees they can't have birth control, they are just asking not to be forced to pay for its coverage.
I think the really shitty part in all of this is that HL is using "moral beliefs" as the reason they don't want to cover it. Really, it's going to save them a ton of money to not have to cover it, and when it comes down to it, HL is a business, the bottom line is all they care about.
They are just using this moral/religious stuff as a reason to drum up support from all those people that a) hate "Obamacare" on principle and/or b) love to get all up in women's vaginas about stuff like this (which seems to happen a lot lately).

I hate when I get letters in the mail from March of Dimes with a dime in the letter - 'this dime could do ____'. Then why the hell are you sending it to me! We get dimes and nickels (don't remember who from) and I want to save them and send them back all together. This is what you sent to me in the last year! Ugh!
I am not crying crocodile tears for Hobby Lobby. I have seen just as much stuff out there on them claiming they may have to shut their doors because they can't afford to insure their employees. I feel like I am always hearing from clients - "it is the principle of the matter." Yet, at the end of the day, the moral high ground you want to stand on seems to go out the window if the bottom dollar is affected. Corporate higher ups almost always make decisions based on cost.

I dislike ultrasounds. Yes I know you get to see the baby but I find the ultrasound technicians very cold and distant and they can't tell you anything so you have to wait for a call from your doctor and who knows when that will be. Every time I've had to get one I get extremely nervous and anxious. I might have to get another one in a couple weeks and I don't want to.
Also this is more of a vent than a UO but is it that hard for a doctor to be on time? Is it just they think we all have nothing better to do than sit in their stupid waiting room for 30-45mins. I can't imagine scheduling a client meeting and making the client wait there for that long. I find it extremely unprofessional and frankly, annoying as hell. If you're constantly running late then maybe it's time to rethink how much time you've allocated to appointment slots. Punctuality should be taught in medical school. It's just fucking common courtesy!

I think that's going to depend on the practice you see. My sonographer will answer basic questions as I ask and my dr comes in immediately after the u/a to talk to me about it. When I had to see a MFM at a big university hospital they did the same.

It's hard to see her tattoos, I know both of these women personally, the one in lingerie is my cousin, her tattoos are morbid and are just tasteless, IMO. The woman on the left, is my friend and hairstylist, her tattoos are classic and elegantly done.
It has nothing to do with what she is wearing, for me, I could easily find one of the girl on the left in lingerie and I still think her tattoos are beautiful.

I agree. I don't have all morning to sit in a doctor's office waiting. I can understand if my appointment is end of day but a 45 minute wait when my appointment was at 9:30 is mismanagement of time or scheduling too many patients. Between OB and MFM appointments, it's alot of time out of the office. I'm doing this as we speak. it should just be a walk in. Every time I come end up waiting 45 minutes or longer. Every time.

I'd imagine the fact that OBs have these rather impossible-to-schedule aspects of their job called attending to a birth might unexpectedly throw off their schedule for a bit. You want your OB leaving while you're squeezing out a baby b/c they might be 30 mins late for someone's routine checkup?

Ahh that's awesome. Are you in the US? Maybe it's different in Canada but my doctor's office is separate from the ultrasound clinic. I can only get an ultrasound done at the hospital or at the ultrasound and X-ray clinic. Then they send the pics to my doc and it feels like it takes them forever to look at them. Also the techs say absolutely nothing to me. If I ask a question they answer, "I'm not allowed to tell you anything."

It is actually a lot harder than you think. All it takes is one emergency or one patient or one phone call to take longer than they should. Even one patient needing to be admitted to the hospital can push you back 30+ minutes. And OB's notoriously have these situations come up..and frequently. Or they may have an emergency c-section. Or maybe they are working a patient in with an emergency... When I had severe pre-e and IUGR, I got worked in on many occasions.
Plus, sometimes you can blame other patients not showing up on time for causing them to run late. It is almost comical the number of patients my DH regularly has that stroll in an hour late or more for their appointment. And, believe it or not, these people expect to be seen...sometimes he can work them in and sometimes he can't.
Now I do agree that they should give you an opportunity to reschedule if they are running really behind - i.e. an hour or more. I had to sit in my pedi's office last week for 2+ hours and was told at the outset that it would only be a 15 minute wait. But 30 minutes? Come on. I regularly wait that long (or longer) at a restaurant for a table on a Friday night.
Also, believe it or not, but with the very low rates of reimbursement by insurance companies, doctors can not afford to only schedule 2 patients an hour or put extra padding in every hour or every couple of hours because then they basically won't be making a living. Plus, they also have to account for "no shows." You would be shocked at how many people just don't show up for appointments with no call to cancel or anything.
These are all things that doctors have to balance and it isn't as
easy as you would think. You may be balancing a few appointments a
day, but they are balancing 30-50 along with deliveries, surgeries, emergencies, RX refills and 100-200 phone calls or more a day of people
calling in and needing things...and, of course, every person thinks their medical situation is of the utmost importance and dire. I honestly am shocked that they don't run even further behind most of the time...

Yet, at the end of the day, the moral high ground you want to stand on seems to go out the window if the bottom dollar is affected. Corporate higher ups almost always make decisions based on cost.
I'm not going to get too involved in the HL debate as I'm not well-versed in the details. However, I will say it's not like this is their first "moral stance." They are closed on Sunday's to give their employee's time to worship and spend with family. However, they are undoubtably losing out financially based on that moral (rather that financial) decision.
I am not crying crocodile tears for Hobby Lobby. I have seen just as much stuff out there on them claiming they may have to shut their doors because they can't afford to insure their employees. I feel like the BC/morning after pill is a bull-shit excuse because at the end of the day providing insurance for their employees hurts their bottom dollar. This. Plus, what about religions that don't accept blood transfusions? I don't see any Jehovah's Witnesses refusing to cover such things for their employees. Health insurance is health insurance and prescription coverage is prescription coverage. Seriously, fuck Hobby Lobby and everyone that supports them.
Yup. They have signs up at the u/s clinics that the technicians are not allowed to provide any medical information. We don't get to see anything except at the very end, and other than identifying body parts, they don't say anything. I didn't find them unpleasant but I'm convinced that the poker face is a part of their training.
I hate ass kissing and networking and all that stuff, in work and socially. I believe in meritocracy and I refuse to brown nose in order to succeed. I accept that's why I'll never be wildly successful and will always come second fiddle to other people, but at least I'll have a clear conscience. I'm not a competitive person, so when I'm confronted with competition I just let the other party get on with it. I have better things in my life to worry about that how popular I am, what car I drive and how big my house is.
Kissing ass and networking are two completely separate things. Being competitive and/or successful and not playing second fiddle are not solely the province of people who care about what car they drive and how big their house is, either. You can care about being really good at what you do and not sit back and let people walk all over you while also not centering your life around your possessions. Amazing, I know.

I agree. I don't have all morning to sit in a doctor's office waiting. I can understand if my appointment is end of day but a 45 minute wait when my appointment was at 9:30 is mismanagement of time or scheduling too many patients. Between OB and MFM appointments, it's alot of time out of the office.
I'd imagine the fact that OBs have these rather impossible-to-schedule aspects of their job called attending to a birth might unexpectedly throw off their schedule for a bit. You want your OB leaving while you're squeezing out a baby b/c they might be 30 mins late for someone's routine checkup?
I get this. When this happens it's really not hard to call your patients and let them know their appointment is behind or reschedule it.

I don't think that part is uncommon. They're not diagnosticians.

I'm in the same situation, but I still have had great techs (always someone different) that chat with me during appointments and give information when they can. They are always very happy to point things out and answer any questions where appropriate. That being said, I go to the local children's hospital for my ultrasounds and my OB is a doctor that works at that hospital, so I'm always technically in the care of the same department (OB and ultrasound). The wait time is also very short for me because of this (my last ultrasound was scheduled for 1:30 at the hospital and my OB follow-up was at 3 that day).

I think Adele is overrated. Her music is mediocre and her voice is borderline annoying. The way she sings "eeee" and "ooooh" go right through me.

*Disclaimer: These are not my real feelings but I guess I'm good at seeing the other side of view*
*snip*
my UO (and I hate to get all political so I apologize in advance): I don't understand the hype about the Hobby Lobby birth control thing; Hobby Lobby is complaining that the ACA is forcing them to provide a health plan that covers contraception including IUD's and the morning after pill, which they have moral objections too.
____________________________________________________quote box fail

I'm doing this as we speak. it should just be a walk in. Every time I come end up waiting 45 minutes or longer. Every time.
These are all things that doctors have to balance and it isn't as easy as you would think. You may be balancing a few appointments a day, but they are balancing 30-50 along with deliveries, surgeries, emergencies, RX refills and 100-200 phone calls or more a day of people calling in and needing things...and, of course, every person thinks their medical situation is of the utmost importance and dire. I honestly am shocked that they don't run even further behind most of the time...
