I'm at the DMV and 202 numbers from being called and not an empty chair in the place. I'm looking SOOOOO pregnant today and not one of these douchebags waiting is giving up their seat for the pregnant girl.
Ugh, people. I would have totally given up my seat for a pregnant woman/ old person but I guess I different than these jerks. Only 199 people ahead of me now.

Sorry this is so random, I'm clearly bored. Vent is over.

That really annoys me too. Sometimes it's not even that I need to sit, but it's the principle! It always makes me angrier when a woman (and it's almost always an elderly woman) gets up for me and a whole row of men just stare. D-bags.

I'm going to attempt to put this in a way that's not really mean or snarky. Not everyone cares that your pregnant. Not everyone is going to care that you have a big belly sore feet or an aching back. That's life.

Calm down killer. You vented on a public forum. Not everyone is going to feel bad for you. If it was me I wouldn't expect someone to give up their seat especially if there are really that many people there and I certainly wouldn't be refering to them a douche bags because they didn't treat me like royalty by offering up there chair.

Yup, this. If I absolutely know I need to sit down, I'd get somewhere early to make sure I can get a chair.

OK, I'll bite on this one

To preface, I'm a big f-ing feminist - got my MA in Women's Studies kind of feminist; so the "sexist" argument always is an interesting one to me because we live in a time where it seems like everyone wants to have their cake and eat it too from an appropriate "gender role" perspective. While I disagree that men should get up for women all the time, I do think that it's good manners to get up for individuals - men, women, children, martians, whatever - who might benefit from being off their feet for a period of time. Pregnant, ill, differently-abled, aged, etc.

No one has been mean, they just disagreed with you. It happens. Also, this post really is NBD that you need to delete it. Just be aware there are threads specifically for stuff like this in the future and you can post further vents there. Again, NBD, just leave it and move on...

Ugh, double dose of suck-fest. 1. DMV day, 2. Pregnant at the packed dmv. Sorry about all of that. Don't get pissed when re-directed to other threads, it's just to keep the board semi-organized. Also, not everyone will agree with you, that's okay. I was raised to give my seat to anyone older than me or who might need it too (despite the fact that I was a girl-- no sexism involved). If it were 9 months ago and I saw a pregnant lady standing i'd offer her
my seat regardless, so I see where you're coming from.

Also, where are you that there are 200 people in line at the DMV? I've never seen a DMV that could possibly hold that many people.

All of this. It's good manners to give up your seat in a lot of situations. But you also can't expect everyone will agree with you.

Really? If a dude wants to offer me a seat just because I have a vagina, I'm just going to be offended. I'm not a wilting flower, nor do I want the first thing people to think when they look at me to be, 'IT'S A WOMAN! TREAT HER SPESHUL!"

Pregnant, I still don't take seat offers, but I appreciate them. But non pregnant? Just as a normal human?

I'm not sure where @laurenmichaels‌ is from or lives but my experiences in the south is that it's common courtesy for a man to give up his seat/hold a door/ treat a woman special just because it's how it's always been done. I think it's a little silly to be offended that someone is being courteous. If he were to say "sit down because you're obviously not a strong/smart/able as I am" that would be a different story. I think sometimes people as a whole are waaayyyy too serious.

I thought it was just for 50 years? I got my license at 16 in 2002, and it expires the same day in 2052, so I'll be 66. I remember going to get my license though, we went first thing in the morning before it even opened and I was still #50 in line....

@jshrop I'm in Vegas and the manners aren't at the level they should be. I'm not demanding people move for me I was just surprised. I would have for a pregnant woman or an older woman OR man.

Like you, I don't feel like they have to give up their seat just surprised no one does. That's all.

Here, you have to stand in line for an hour outside of the DMV. Then it's 2 hours waiting inside the DMV. I don't think they technically can hold that many people... you basically feel like a canned sardine

@jshrop... yeah, that's ours, too. I have never been to any DMV where there were under 100 people. If you get there before they open there is already a line. Needing to go to the DMV means setting aside a full day. People even discuss which DMV in the area is the least horrendous!

@Rachel5130 I'm not from the South, but I just think holding the door for the next person or offering your seat to an older person (or just someone who looks like they may need it) is common courtesy.

This. I'm in Texas and would be mortified if my husband or son didn't hold the door open for the immediate next person or offer their seat to an elderly person or pregnant woman. If I do it, you should most certainly do it, able-bodied man. It's common courtesy and respectful. Come on.

I'd be mortified if my daughter didn't hold the door open for the next person either, to me that's a common courtesy that everyone should do. I mean really, you see someone coming in like 3 ft behind you...hold the door for a sec and let them grab it rather than let it close in their face. It's sad to see how many people just don't have the most basic manners...

WTF are you? I've been to the main DMV office in Chicago more times than I can count and never had that happen.
