Due to a surprise adoption opportunity we are going to be parents to a little girl in May, should everything go as planned. Please remind me of how amazing newborns are, despite the lack of sleep I will be experiencing. Also, any tips from those with a stubborn toddler and a newborn would be welcome. And all the booze please as we prepare for a baby in a month and a half. But really, we are excited and nervous at the same time. Adoption was an amazing journey the first time around, and we hope it will be the same this time.

Congrats!

We reward DS with an M&M when he helps us and tell him he's such a big boy. When family asks how they can help we ask them to take DS to a playground or do something special for him.

I also remind him of all the things he can do that Dd is too small for and make it a point to talk to him and read to him while nursing or caring for DS.

Thanks guys !! We are already preparing DS without any definites about how he could be a big brother and help us with a little sister. We don't want to tell him for sure, because the birthmom can still change her mind. But we want him to be ready too, and not just show up with a baby. We have animals, and he loves to be my helper and feed them, walk them and let them outside. He also loves to push the stroller, so I think he will be a great big brother.
