Anyone having an elective C-section..

Re: Anyone having an elective C-section..

  • But that's the difference between an emergency situation and just as a matter of course. Some hospitals do still separate as a matter of procedure with vaginal births, but it's much more common with a c section. I think the lack of separation is my favorite part of my birth center birth.

This. There's a LOT more cutting involved in a c-section than an episiotomy!

Suffice it to say I was much happier with the single stitch I needed following DD's vaginal delivery than I was with my 7 layers of stitches from the twins' c/s.

  • After my c/s, my baby left the operating room for 20ish minutes. My husband went with her and she was back before I was even done being sewn back up. If the baby is gone for 2+ hours, I doubt it is for something routine, something was probably wrong.

A co-worker got an elective section. She scheduled it at like 20 weeks for her date. She just wanted that instead of labor. It worked out really well for her. She is high anxiety and for her this was what she was comfortable with.

I went ahead and tried induction even though we knew it probably wouldn't work (shallow pelvis). Well I ended up in an emergency csection to save us both literally. He was only 7 pounds

My 2nd baby I just opted for the c/s and no complaint. I was up walking around by end of day 1 and cleaning house the day I came home. I also had a blood transfusion with both which significantly improves healing rate and time.
  • With my uncomplicated vaginal birth, I was recovered and even started exercising about 10 days post-delivery. I would NEVER choose a C-section and the recovery that comes with it over that. It's major surgery!

  • i just had a c section for medical reasons but not even 16 hours after my c section i was walking around. i was discharged after 48 hours and feel pretty good and i am 4 days post op. I felt this good 24 hours after. Today i went grocery shopping, cleaned the house and walked a lot.  I am not really sore and barely had to take any pain meds. i will say i am a surgery pro though. i have had 6 in the last 3 ish years. there are a lot more complications with a c section and i think recovery wise i am super super lucky. the only time it hurts is when i sit up in bed. i am even allowed to drive already. i dont think it is ever wise to pick surgery but not all c sections have a terrible recovery

My sisters baby was in the nursery for four hours. Nothing was wrong, it was all completely routine. It depends on the hospital.

There was nothing wrong. It was the hospital policy. Baby and H went back to our room. I was stitched up and then sent to a seperate recovery room where I wasn't allowed to leave until I could wiggle my toes. DH and DD were just chillin waiting for me to get back.

Some hospitals have ridiculous policies so it's important to be informed ahead of time and if they have a policy you disagree with see if they are wiling to work with you to find a compromise that works for everybody.

some celebs get them as soon as unsightly stretch marks appear to be showing & so their bodies go right back I guess too! the pressure out on them sadly makes them feel the need to do so but I'm not surprised at all. side note in case you do : I did just learn that micro organisms in the vagina give the baby it's first bacteria to fight & ultimately is the best form of this first probiotic so if I were going to have a c I'd ask my dr to place a gauze in my vagina then wipe the babies face with it once removed from the uterus to give it this healthy bacteria opportunity. sounds unusual but studies showed it helps the baby in many ways. just an additional thought!
Huh????  Some women get stretch marks in the first trimester, others never get them.  I've never heard of anyone getting a c-section because of stretch marks.

And FTR, getting a c-section doesn't mean your body will bounce back more quickly.  In fact, you usually have a "shelf" above your c-section scar for months/years, and you generally have to wait longer before you resume exercise and other activities. I'm a c-section (for med reasons) mom of two, so I've been there (and have my shelf to prove it!).

For celebrities who opt for a c-section, which is far from everyone, it's much more likely that they prefer to be able to plan exactly when they're going to have the child.  Imagine dealing with paparazzi stalking a hospital while you're in labor!
  • I had a scheduled c/s due to the baby being breech and we opted not to try a EVC- the risk seemed too high due to some pregnancy complications and it didn't seem likely that the baby would turn. My OB actually estimated that my LO was going to be around 6lbs and he was 8lbs at birth so him being "to big" wasn't one of the concerns.

However, I ended up with an "emergency" section because I went into labor on my own before my scheduled date.

I had a really great experience- I recovered very quickly and didn't have any difficulties and didn't have to take any heavy pain killers in the hospital or when I went home- with that said everyone heals differently and my experience is not like everyone elses. I think it helped that I was mentally prepared for the surgery and I did not endure hours of labor/pushing to then have a major surgery which is what happened to a few of my friends. I could not hold LO for maybe a half hour while they stitched me back up but he stayed in the OR with me and H held him. LO then came to recovery with me where we immediately did skin to skin and tried nursing. When they transferred me to my room they took him to the nursery for about a half hour to finish testing and some more clean up. The catheter was no big deal- didn't feel it in me and didn't feel it when they took it out.

Even though I had a great experience- if the baby had been in a normal position I would have never elected to have a csection. The risks are too high...and it's a major surgery. A VERY common surgery but it's still a major surgery and things can happen. It's also a surgery that people just glance over like it's no big deal. My H didn't think twice about the fact that I was going into a major surgery...and I heard over and over again- why worry? It's just a c section. But the local hospital around me is currently being investigated for two different cases and c section complications- so like with any surgery- things can happen.

And when/if I become pregnant again-- I will really be looking into a VBAC and seeing if that is a good option for me.
  • Yeah I'm pretty sure (on the subject of celebrities) it's easier for your body to bounce back when your abdominal a HAVENT had a hole torn in them.

  • She finds this interesting to discuss, but don't bring any of that unpleasant disagreement in, kay? In related news I'm having my appendix out next month, just for fun.

You and all your bump friends really need to grow up. Maybe she's not responding because she's what we call mature.
