  • @meg1147

Thanks for the positive vibes! It is so scary! Did you bleed a lot more because of the blood thinners?

  • Welcome new members!  :D
  • :):) I love this group!
  • Hi ladies! I am 5w3d pregnant and I'm also on Lovenox 40mg once a day. I was diagnosed with Factor V when I got my first PE and had another PE about 2 years later. I had a miscarriage 7 years ago. I know I'm still early but hoping for a sticky baby! I have my first ultrasound April 9th.

  • Welcome, @AmandaRae529!  Sending sticky vibes!!
  • Hugs to all! I was on baby aspirin and lovenox during my pregnancy for antiphoholipid antibody. Had no clotting problems, but I did have pPROM, and they ended up inducing at 34 weeks. My daughter is a healthy, normal 17 month old, and We are starting again. Because of the pPROM, I will have to take progesterone shots in additional to the lovenox this time. Wish me luck!
  • On another note, because my water broke while I was still on lovenox, they had to do periodic blood tests to see how much was in my system before starting to induce. It was a lot of waiting and very scarey, but I was allowed to have the epidural.
  • Hi ladies...

Random Question. As I am approaching my due date I of course am thinking about having a glass of wine after baby comes ;) Do you know if it is safe to have on lovenox?
  • @alohamel...I think a glass of wine is ok. If I remember correctly, everything I've read says to limit alcohol intake rather than eliminate so I'd assume a glass here and there is ok! :)

  • @alohamel

I don't think I bled any more than normal, but being that was my first pregnancy/delivery I had nothing to compare it too. Just know that first baby, or third, pads will be your friend for a few weeks! :)

  • Quick story - Had a nice pharmacist track down the last 5 Lovenox injections for me on saturday (I was all out)...what is going on?  Did everyone suddenly start lovenox injections this weekend?  The pharmacist asked where I do my injections now (as he gawked at my belly).  I explained.  Hopefully he will pass that on to the next expectant lovenox mama.

Hope everyone is having a great Monday!

Can folks/STMs tell me (meg1147 ) why you would have to be put under for your c-section?  Is this a heparin/blood thinner related thing?  Or is it specific to your labor/delivery situation?  Just wondering since I am getting closer to my due date and know that a c-section is a strong possibility since I have twins cooking.

  • I'm only 5w4d and my belly is already bruised up! I called my hematologist today and was told that my belly is the ONLY place I'm allowed to do the shots. I've read on here about a bunch of girls using their thighs and/or their upper arms.

Does anyone have any input as to why I would only be allowed to use my belly? It's going to be a long 9 months! (But totally worth it, of course)

  • @amandarae529 our dates are very close! I am 5w2d today. Here's to hoping for a great 9 months and healthy November babies!!

  • @KateC1029 That's so cool!! Congratulations to you! Here's to a happy and healthy 9 months for us both :)

  • I have never heard that before...I don't know what i would do if I couldn't use my hips right now.  I can't pull any skin on my belly for injections right now...plus, I think it is less painful in my hips than the belly.

  • I don't know what I would do either if I couldn't inject in my thighs and arms! I was told that I can't inject myself in my belly because of baby. Maybe they will switch it up for you once your belly gets bigger!

@Beesknees181 - I will have to go under general anesthesia because I will still be on lovenox when I go into labor and won't be able to have an epidural (very unfortunate!). I can't switch to Heparin because I have an active clot and Heparin isn't strong enough for me to inject myself.
  • @ alohamel thank you for sharing!

  • Just checking in! 6 weeks today and leaving for an 8 day vacation in St. Maarten tomorrow. Hope everyone has a great week!! :)

  • Have a great trip!
  • BeesKnees- The fact that I am unable to get an epidural is why I would be put fully under! And it is because of an unrelated medical issue. I had a spinal cord issue 5 years ago, so my neurologist told me no epi, to eliminate chance of that reoccuring. Had nothing to do with Lovenox! So you should be just fine if you end up needing a c-section.

AmandaRae- I do my injections in my thighs. I have MTHFR hetero clotting disorder, so don't know if it's because maybe we have different reasons for taking it? But my first pregnancy resulted in a perfectly healthy little boy, all injections in my thighs. So I have started this pregnancy the same exact way! My doctor never told me otherwise!

  • I am on 150 mg once a day after developing a blood clot in my leg. So far so good!

  • @meg1147‌ Hmm...that's a good point and that could be why. I didn't think of that. I'm still early and have enough to pinch for the shots but I don't know what will happen as I get bigger. I'm sure I'll make it work! :)

  • Hi girls how is everyone doing today? I actually switched to Heparin this morning. The Dr. said I had been on Lovenox long enough. It still scares me though as I hope it works like the lovenox did! I had a terrible time trying to find Heparin in the pharmacy and when I did, they didn't have the right needles so it is interesting over here. Hopefully i'll go into labor very soon so I can switch back to Lovenox!!!

Hope all of you ladies are doing well! I also wanted to let you know the shots feel a lot better if you ice the area first :)

  • I saw your post on the May board as well, but figured I'd just reply here. Sorry to hear that you've joined the DVT club.  I have an active clot in my leg as well, which we found a couple months ago. I've been on 60mg of Lovenox twice a day, and will be switching to Heparin next Thursday when I hit 36 weeks. The ladies here have a wealth on knowledge to share - they're great :)

  • @alohamel - Did your heparin come in pre-filled syringes or are you filling out of a bottle each time? You're almost there, hang in there!

  • @megsmegs I have to measure it out which is annoying. I am supposed to be on 8,000 units 3x a day but the vials are only 5 and my syringes are only 1 ml so I'm taking 6 shots a day until we can find the right syringes! It is not fun!
  • Or jeez, that really sucks; I hope they become available soon!

    Thank you! :D
    Question, ladies!
Where do you inject your lovenox shots? I read (either on this thread or somewhere else, I can't recall) that some of you aren't supposed to do the injection in your stomach because of the baby? That's where my doctor told me to do mine and now I'm worried! :P

  • I do mine in my love handles and DH does the backs of my arms sometimes. Basically anywhere that you can get a good pinch of fat.

  • I spoke with my MFM about switching but she does not recommend it since both need to have time to leave the body and she is not really concerned that I will need an emergency c/s.

She will just have me stop 24 hour before the epidural and I should be set!

Oh the other reason she have is that it can be harder to find just the right dose since people react yo it differently.

    @alohamel

Holy moly that sucks! I think I would have to take hostages at the pharmacy if that happened.

    @auroraborealis6626

"Luckily" I have plenty of love handles :) however I stopped doing my stomach mostly due to tightening of the skin. I used to make fun circles all around the stomach to spread it out. Now I just do the sides down low!

  • DH does mine on the back of my arms and my upper thighs. The only reason they told me to do that is because by the time they caught my DVT I was already 30 weeks pregnant so my belly was impossible to pinch. I'm sure once your belly gets bigger they will tell you to find other fatty spots to pinch. I think most people start in the belly so I wouldn't worry.
  • Hi ladies - Anyone else on Heparin? If you are, what is your dosage? My doctor keeps switching me and i dont know if they are taking my blood to check it. I'm really freaking out right now!
  • My prescription (sitting at home waiting for me to switch next Thursday) says, "Inject 1 ml (10,000 u) subcutaneously every twelve hours."

  • thanks @megsmegs! My doctor originally told me 8,0000 units 3 x a day then switched to 10,000 2 x a day and now is back to 8,000 units 3 x a day. This is all confusing! Do you have prefilled syringes?
  • Hi ladies..

For those on Heparin - Are you bruising more? My bruising got worse and I am bleeding where the needle goes in. The needles are definitely thicker than the lovenox so maybe that is why. Come on baby please come soon! I prefer the lovenox! lol
  • @ meg1147:Thank you!

Hips - I have meaty hips with lots of surface area :)  I ran out of extra skin to pinch on my belly sometime in the second trimester...

When I switched to Heparin with DS I definitely bruised more. And yes, I noticed a difference with the needles too.
ok thank you! I have my induction set for Sunday night if I don't go into labor before then! I'm freaking out!
  • Hi ladies! I know I'm new and breaking up the party but I saw this thread and wanted to join. Hope that's ok! My name is Mary and I'm 38 weeks pregnant on lovenox 80mg/ 2x daily diagnosed with protein c deficiency when I was 24. I won't be switching to heparin before delivery since it is too hard to control a therapuetic dose according to my MFM and am scheduled for an induction on Monday at 39 weeks! I'm pretty excited but also extremely nervous going off of the lovenox for the time to go into labor and deliver but I will do whatever I need to in order to get my little girl here safe! Mainly concerned about developing a blood clot while off the lovenox but hopefully I will be monitored closely enough and that won't happen :). I've had two DVTs in the past due to birth control and provera. Sorry for being so late in the game but hoping I can join in for a little of it!
  • Welcome and good luck! I am still counting down the days until I can stop this poking!
