Mask of Pregnancy...and other face issues.

I have really bad "pregnancy mask" on my face, particularly around my cheeks and jaw--at least this is what my OBGYN says it is.  Its red, splotchy, and very dry.  Not raised like acne, though.  Makeup usually covers it, so that is nice.

My problem is, I think my nightly facial routine is making it worse.  I'm using Mary Kay Timewise.  Anyone else have this problem?  If so, or if not, what facial routine do you use at night?  I'm thinking a change might help.

Re: Mask of Pregnancy...and other face issues.

  • I have extreme dry skin on my face. Even my dental hygienist mentioned it during my cleaning last week. I honestly, don't have a face routine at all, but went and got a facial and it seemed to help a bit. It's so annoying.

  • I don't have the mask of pregnancy. I did however have to change my routine because my skin changed.
I was normal/dry and now my skin is super oily. My boss is a Mary Kay consultant so she was able to suggest a different type of face wash.

I only used a gentle makeup removing cleanser. I now have to use something a little stronger. Do you have a professional skin care person to talk to about it? Even if you go to a makeup counter in the mall, you don't have to buy anything. They could steer you you in the right direction:)
    Good luck!

I think I'll let my husband know that YOU personally recommended that I get a facial. :)  Sounds like a good excuse, right?  Seriously though, I was wondering if that might help.

Cold cream and cetaphil facial moisturizer is my normal routine. It's moisturizing and cleared up the few acne problems that I had before.

I do not have any pregnancy-related skin issues (fingers-crossed!), but this is a really gentle, moisturizing, and deep-cleaning routine. It might be worth a try before buying anything more expensive.

PM me if you want and I will further extol the benefits of cold cream (and tell you in detail my exact routine). I seriously think that cold cream has been the best thing ever for my skin.
  • I just got a red splotchy hot to the touch rash on face yesterday. Mostly the left side... I called my OB clinic and they said it didn't sound like "pregnancy mask" and to see my primary care doc. I've also been very sick though for about 5 days, head/chest cold and I had a cold sore show up last Wednesday. So I saw the doc and they think it is either 5ths disease or my body's response to fighting this viral illness I have... So they drew blood to test for 5ths disease and sent me home with orders to rest and push fluids...... I'm no help, I haven't found anything that makes it feel better. I wonder if mine really is just "pregnancy mask" ?! Either way it's irritating!! Good luck I hope you find something that helps it!!

It helped make it less noticeable for me. All the dead flakey skin came off, but it's still really dry. I'm just trying to put lotion on once a day, which is really hard for me.

    Interesting!  I messaged you!

That does not sound like fun, and it sounds worse than mine.  Good luck, and feel better!

  • I don't have that, it sounds awful. I just have horrific acne, and I got a nice big hemangioma on my forehead which was awesome. Every time I tried to wash my face it would bleed like mad and refuse to heal. My dr. said it's fairly common in pregnancy (like skin tags) and froze it off with liquid nitrogen. I might need one more hit to make it go away completely but it's much improved.

Unfortunately I don't have good advice for you, but I hope it goes away! Skin issues suck!
  • Before I was pregnant I had awful dry skin on my face, my dermatologist recommend taking a wash cloth getting it wet and gently scrubbing my face every night. The simplest thing in the world right? How I never thought of that I don't know, but I started doing that and using a sunscreen/face lotion right after, worked like a charm!

Also the OCM can make up for dry skin, which I used to do and loved.
