2 hour road trip (HALP?!)

On Friday or Saturday I plan on driving with M and Myself to my aunt's house. It's going to be a 2 hour drive. I'm very nervous to drive that far alone and the fact I've never drove alone for more than 20 minutes. It's literally a straight shot not on a major highway, so I'm less nervous. I'm hoping M sleeps while I'm driving but I'm nervous if she starts screaming and I can't immediately pull over... what do I do? What should I do to have the most peaceful trip I can plan?

  • I meant to mention this to @bglovesbabyk‌ too.

There is an app called Baby View Lite. It has high contrast images and sounds perfect for baby distraction. I am sure there are more apps like it.

Also to exit from a screen you have to press and hold on the house icon so it's less likely they will hit it and turn it off.

Edit: auto correct changes app to appointment. Who knew?

I have this and M loves it.

  • I have driven 1.5 hrs a couple different times. I just made sure he was fed and dry and off we went. I tried to time it with a nap so I could be extra sure he would pass out. He's slept the whole way each time.

  • 2 hours is not very long. Does your baby usually fuss in the car? Or do you not drive much?

We drive 2 hours with our kids to see my parents frequently and it's always fine. I've done the drive w one baby on my own and it was no big deal.

Like PP said just feed her before you leave and baby will probably sleep the whole time.

M is fine usually unless she's over tired. I just don't drive very often.

I have found the things I worry the most about usually go smoothly. You've got this! Enjoy your visit.
  • I always leave right after a diaper change and a bottle. It worries me when I have to drive alone but it works out.

  • I am not sure if you have LO on a nap schedule but I have been lucky to get both DD and DS on nap schedules so whenever we have a long trip, I always make sure we leave right when that nap time is about to start.  I would also feed and get a good burp out of LO before getting in the car.  Good luck!

  • As much as we can, we try to leave for drives right after a feeding so she is likely to sleep and not need to be fed/changed.  If you time it right she may just sleep the entire way!
