What do you need near your bed?

We have a twin pack n play that I have set up next to our bed. I put a few extra sheet savers, burp cloths, nipple cream and breast pads right there. I know a diaper changing station would be nice but that's not realistic in our small room. What else do you have near your bed for babies in the beginning?

Is it sad that my first thought upon reading the title was "a bed pan"? Waking up every couple hours to pee and having to heave my large, aching self out of bed is for the birds.

To answer your question seriously, I never had anything but the bassinet near our bed! I just used the changing station in her nursery. For the most part, if I was up with baby I wasn't in the bedroom (so that DH could sleep well for work or potential baby duty).

  • For me the MBF pillow, but you'd likely be better off with the twin version.
  • i was going to say water too!  definitely that.  snacks as well.  nursing twins is going to be a big energy drain on you, so make sure to stay hydrated and well fed, even in the middle of the night.

nursing pillow, lip balm, phone charger... stuff you'll want near you.
  • I kept a few diapers, a thing of wipes, and a hand towel on my night stand, then I could lay baby on the towel to change on my bed. Also a burp cloth & water bottle.

  • Water!! Breastfeeding makes me incredibly thirsty, and I need the water right next to me, especially nursing during the night - otherwise, I'd forget to drink until morning.

As far as diaper changing during the night, I don't mind going into his nursery to do that. I'd rather keep his diapers together (we're using cloth ones).

  • I keep a couple diapers/wipes there and just change them on the bed.  We use cloth too, so I just hand it to my husband and he throws it in the bin.  I also have water, nip cream, breastpads, my milkies milk saver thingie, and my pump, ready for the morning.  I always get my best pumping session in after our first morning feed.  We cosleep/bedshare, so I have an extra blanket/burpcloth in the pnp next to the bed.  If I need anything else, I just send my husband to get it.  I never feel bad because he can fall back to sleep in milliseconds.  lol
  • I have a long yet short dresser on my side of the bed, with DD2 i had a changing pad, diapers, and wipes on top and changed her there. Will be doing it again with this baby. If we didn't have that dresser we would have just changed her on the bed.
I'm an exclusive pumper, so I had my pumping station next to my bed.
Then things like water, snacks, nipple cream, and burp cloths.

  • A change of clothes for baby in case they get covered in spit up or have a blowout.
And we actually got a cool gift from the shower. My friend fixed up a basket of essentials which was basically a few diapers, a pack of travel wipes, diaper cream, gas drops, and burp clothes. She said she would just keep the basket close to the bed or even in the living room so she would always have those things close by. You could do the same and add in the feeding supplies, then just restock each day for what you would need that night. Super easy and portable!
  • ^^^ that's a cute shower gift idea!
  • Very helpful ladies! Thanks. I guess I will need to find a way to keep some of my cloth diapers over there.

I thought it was! Especially being a c-section mommy. It will save a lot of getting up and running around every time we need something!
  • Definitely water. Something like an itty bitty book light is nice, too.
