...and I am trying to figure out why. I've asked twice, and both times he said it was just "not recommended during pregnancy" and told me I could get the shot after delivery. The CDC recommends it during pregnancy, and the America College of Obstretrics and Gynecology, as well as the American Academy of Pediatrics, both appear to go by the CDC schedule. So I'm just trying to figure out who exactly "doesn't recommend TDAP" during pregnancy and/or if any women didn't get TDAP? It seems to me an overwhelming majority of women on this board received or will receive a TDAP shot during pregnancy, so I'm confused about this.
To add to the strange advice my OB is dishing out these days, he also seemed very hesitant to write me a prescription for a breast pump. He claimed that was just something I could sort out at the hospital (where he does not have privileges). I know that most women wait until later in the game to get their pumps due to the time frame on the warranty; however, my insurance takes approx two weeks to ship the pump to me once the prescription is processed, and I don't think it's logical to wait until two weeks PP for a pump in case LO has latch issues. I don't know if this is his way of trying push me toward EBF and away from pumping?
I know I'm not the one with a medical degree, but his recommendations seem awfully backwards to me. I'm not sure if I should try to change OBs this late in the game (I have been less than impressed by his bedside manner, but that is an entirely different story). Has anyone had her OB give similar advice?

Re: My OB said not to get the TDAP shot...

In any case, did you happen to ask your OB while you were there why he was saying those things? He'd be the best person to tell you what his issue is. It could be as simple as the fact that he doesn't believe it's useful for passing immunity on to the baby or he could be a quack (which it kind of sounds like he is anyway).
Yes, I asked "why don't I get the TDAP shot now" and his reply was a curt "they don't recommend it until after delivery" though he never specified who "they" were... I should have pressed for more info but he had already tabled the issue twice, and I guess I just wasn't feeling confrontational this morning.
I get the logic with waiting to see what pump might be best, but my insurance only offers two different models of pumps (double electric). So I'm wondering then If it matters? My reason for wanting the pump in advance is financial - insurance provides a pump for free, as opposed to buying or renting a pump at the hospital. Good to hear of a successful switch this far along!
No conditions, thus adding to my confusion.
No advice on the pump, I went right through insurance for mine.
There has been a study or studies suggesting that it lessens the effect of the first vaccine in infants (i.e. the one they get after birth), but the studies are still preliminary. I asked my new OB about it and she had not read the studies but said she would get back with me. I will still probably get one in pregnancy even though I have had one already just 18 months ago because it is thought to pass some immunity on to the child in the first few months before they get their vaccine.
If you don't get it in pregnancy, get it right afterwards and make sure that the primary caregivers of the child have had the vaccine.

As for the breast pump, the medical supplier is handling getting the script from my OB. Maybe you could try that route?
Also, I know how you feel about being hesitant to change doctors so late. I had the same debate with mine. I finally decided to change this past week, and I'm so happy I did! Like my husband kept telling me - it's YOUR body, YOUR birth, so YOU should be comfortable. And the doctor might be happy to have one less patient!
It’s not that I don’t like you, it’s that I don’t know you. Stranger Danger.

No, bad wording on my part. When I mean is I only used to previously see him as my gynecologist (for Pap smears and what not) as I am a FTM - I didn't learn much about him or his medical philosophy as an OB (if that makes sense).

He's not. He has privileges at another hospital further away with a level I NICU. When I first starting researching into the hospital and talking to him about it he basically stated that it would be unlikely that he would be doing the delivery - his reasoning being he is the only OBGYN in his practice and due to availability he is typically only present for his high risk patients (there is nothing high risk about me). So I figured if a doctor I didn't know was going to do the delivery I might as well deliver closer to my home at a hospital with a level iii nicu (as opposed to the level I). Complicated, right?
I'm in Florida.

My practice said once the results of my GBS test were back they could just forward all of my records to the hospital (I went to the hospital and they said it wasn't an issue either). But I wonder if it will just be a headache
Yah at first I worried it was crazy - I lurked around on TB a bit and a few women mentioned delivering somewhere independent of where their OB had privileges. Hopefully I'm not too nuts for trying.
As for the TDaP, both my new MW and the CNPs I met with at my old practice recommended getting it but I guess every place is different.
Edit: I hate autocorrect....
My files? They will forward them as soon as the GBS test results are back (I had it today so I imagine it can't be too long from now).
