I'm bored. Wanna see before and after pics of my kitchen?

  • Nope...I wish...the bottom looks the same on both sides. It would be nice if the top cabinets could fit below, but they're too wide.

I'd get rid of the top cabinets but keep the island.

Same. Are there bottom cupboards on the kitchen side? Can't tell from pics.
Yeah. The top cabinet doors open on the kitchen side (the pic is taken from the dining room). There are no cabinets under the island, which is strange.

I added another pic. I'll delete them in a bit since we don't own the house yet.

@NotSharknado‌ didn't mean to highjack your post. I love what you did with your kitchen and thought you could give me some tips. There is lots to do.

No worries! I could talk kitchens all day!
  • Cool! What do you think about that wooden "valance" above the window? I wonder if it could come off.

  • I would also remove that thingy over the window. That really makes it look dated. Those cabinets are great. Changing the hardware and hinges will make a world of a difference.
  • And do white trim around the window.

Ha! We posted at the same time!

Lol. Yeah, too funny! I'm also thinking about trying to spraypaint the hardware to save money. If I ruin old brass hardware, oh, well.

  • I'm taking out my ivy wallpaper next week. I am thinking of going a really light gray (much like yours @notsharknado) and possibly a tile back splash?  Thoughts on tile and possibly painting cabinets?  I might just change out hardware, but I'm also not in love with the color of the wood.  I also hate my counter tops, but I can't afford to replace those nor do I want to paint them.

What color is the counter? I like the cabinets. Would you stain or paint? Go to Menards for the tile backsplash. When I get a chance I want to post some tile colors for you.
  • What if you did white cabinets with vintage hardware, missy?
  • Ps I want that mixer
  • The counter tops are green, like REALLY green. I do actually have a Menard's near me!! I was thinking of a modern hardware, but it would depend on the tile I choose.

  • We got lucky on the mixer. DH's coworker used it twice and sold to us for half the price.

  • Oh and all my appliances are black.

  • Gotcha. BRB.
  • With white cabinets and brushed nickel hardware?
  • The first two tiles would look better with white cabinets, and the other tile with the natural wood. Hmmm decisions... And thanks for letting me crash your thread.

@missyishere I know you said that you don't want to paint the counter tops, but you should look into a product from Daich Coatings called SpreadStone. I used it on my work room counter top. It looks amazing and is holding up well. I use tools on top of it too. It was so easy to apply and looks like stone. It's premixed and you just roll it on. You can buy it online or I think Home Depot carries it.

  • Can you link me to the third option @notsharknado?  I can't find it on the site.

I'm going to need your kitchen vision when we do ours, @notsharknado. It's tiny and ugly and we're probably going to have to remove a wall and I want to move the appliances around, because the flow sucks. Whoever made that kitchen was stupid, because the floor is white tile with white grout. It always looks filthy. When we were looking at houses, my H said the kitchen would be first priority, because he knows me and he wanted this house. It's been 3.5 years and it's barely a priority now. -_-

I've seen this done and it's awesome!

I was so nervous about knocking down the wall but I'm so glad we pulled the trigger. I'll help anytime, I seriously love doing this shit.
  • I really like that first one. It matches your counters perfect.
  • P.s. My Dh told me that the kitchen was the first priority and 11 years later it finally happened.
